Rating: Summary: Captivating! Clay Holland is one of my favorite heroes... Review: Clay Holland was willing to die for his beliefs, but he was unwilling to kill for them. When he refused to fight for the Confederacy, he was imprisoned and tortured. When he returned to his hometown of Cedar Grove, he was ostracized and shunned and branded the town "coward". Meg, who lost her husband and 3 brothers to the war, hates Clay with all her heart for refusing to pick up a gun for the Confederacy. She commissions him to sculpt a memorial to honor the 22 men from Cedar Grove who died in the war. She hopes to punish him severely for his cowardice. However, her plan goes awry as she spends time in Clay's presence. As the reader, you feel Clay's utter loneliness, despair, and isolation. You also feel his quiet strength and courage. Meg is a bit harder to like, but her losses explain a lot of her actions. ALWAYS TO REMEMBER is a beautiful story of courage and love. Don't miss this very original and heartwrenching book!
Rating: Summary: i laughed, i cried, i'd read it again Review: Don't pay attention to the review with the "yellow belly" comment. This book, in contrast to so many other romances, shows that true courage is found in staying true to your convictions-whether to go to war, or to be a pacifist. In my opinion, it took more courage for Clay _not_ to go to war, because he believed it was wrong, than it would have taken to enlist. anyway, this story is wonderful. i cried buckets. I'm only sad that it's out of print, and it's damn hard finding a copy.
Rating: Summary: Heart stopping Review: Fantastic! Wow! What a book. This is a book that really touched my heart, so much so that I could not and would not put it down. I have rarely cried reading a story, but, Clay and Megs story really touched deep into my heart. Great stuff Lorraine Heath and keep up the good work. Nikki.
Rating: Summary: Best book that I have read in a long time Review: I have read a lot of books in the past few months. Always to Remember by Lorraine Heath is the most moving, wonderful book that I have read so far. I had tears rolling down my cheeks as read about Clay, his sacrifices and devotion to his family, and his unselfish acts of kindness. When the townspeople ridiculed and turned their backs on him, it just made me want to fight for him. His love for Meg was so heartwarming and tender. Clay is the best hero I ever read about. This was the first book by Lorraine Heath that I have read. I'm eager to read more of her books.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful... Review: I love Lorraine Heath. Its hard to find another author that can create such tender, masculine heroes. Wow, Clay really is perfectly suited to this role. He was so sweet and unsure, yet undeniably masculine. I adored him. I enjoyed Meg as well... but Clay, to me, was the main attraction here. This is a quietly romantic book. It doesnt hit you over the head ,but sneaks up on you and worms its way in until you cant set it down. It is full of some of the sweetest, smallest, most genuine moments. I cant tell you how much I enjoyed this and I highly recommnd it.
Rating: Summary: WonderFul! Wonderful! Wonderful!!!! Review: I loved it! I cried during it and I couldn't put it down! This is a story of a man's beliefs, a belief that gives him nothing but scorn and hatred. But despite this he refuses to lay the blame and remains completly devoted to his family, even though they too, question his bravery. Isn't it a wonder, that the man they thought a coward, in the end, shamed them with his courage? But there are things he doesn't tell, nightmares that remain his guilty secrets that make this novel a true treasure. The woman, his dead best friend's wife, learns to rise beyond her hatred and look beneath Clayton's quiet exterior and see the sensitive and gentle man within. I can't say enough good things about Always To Remeber. But I will say one more thing, it ended to soon!!
Rating: Summary: i laughed, i cried, i'd read it again Review: I've read historical romance for 20 years now, and ALWAYS TO REMEMBER is one of the _very_ best of it's genre! Incredibly gut-wrenching and emotional. Really makes you question your own strengths and weaknesses. 5 stars is not enough for this book!
Rating: Summary: DO NOT PASS UP THIS BOOK! Review: I've read historical romance for 20 years now, and ALWAYS TO REMEMBER is one of the _very_ best of it's genre! Incredibly gut-wrenching and emotional. Really makes you question your own strengths and weaknesses. 5 stars is not enough for this book!
Rating: Summary: Well-done and unique Review: Lorraine Heath definitely makes her books unique and well done. Always to remember is similar to Sweet Lullaby in that the point of view is mostly through the eyes of a male. A touching story about a man, Clay, who comes back from war and branded a coward because of his choice not to fight. He suffered through the years during and after the war. He comes back, and the townpeople are outraged that he had the nerve to come back when others died fighting for the Cause. One of them is Meg who decides to punish Clay for his cowardness by building a statue for the town. Yet, Meg later turns her hatred into love when she realizes that Clay is a compassionate, caring man. If you have read Lorraine Heath's books, this is one to keep as a collection. It's a great story to warm your heart. If you haven't read her books, you are missing out! All her book are awesome and must have's, especially Texas Splendor(heart-warming and will touch your heart)
