Summary: INTENSE, HONEST AND HOPE FILLED
Review: I enjoyed the first book for a lot of reasons. I didn't think Ms. Hodge could get any grittier, but with her second release A New Day, she does just that.

A little like going to hell and back, this one was kinda brutal. At times I found myself flinching, thinking somebody please come save this woman.

Nothing pretty, it showed Carol-Anne's world like it really was -- rats, roaches, run-downed shoes, bad hair days, unattractive men, the best friend getting a man when she couldn't, all that got stirred up and I was like yeah, okay, uh huh. Keep it real, show me what I know, take me back. I've never been rich but I've seen poor and Carol-Annes life was at times painfully familiar.

Ms. Hodge is now two for two and I'm ready for that three-peat. Knock it out the park girl...

Summary: I just finished reading this book and it was EXCELLENT!
Review: I enjoyed this book immensely! All of the characters, especially Carol-Anne, Max and Nadia were so real. I could relate to almost every aspect of Carol-Anne's life. Margaret Johnson-Hodge truly captured what a single mom sometimes has to go through juggling her own peronsal life and her child/children. I wholeheartedly recommend this book. I hope there will be a sequel to Carol-Anne and Max's relationship!

Summary: Keeping things very real and alive.
Review: I enjoyed this book very much. The author has the ability to write in a way as to allow you to truly feel the characters. It is a great and exciting read!.. The female character Carol-Anne was very believable and her trials and tribulations were very believable. I consider the story a modern day, urban cinderalla story, which includes true and valuable lessons. I suggest this book to both male and female readers.

Summary: I could not put this book down.
Review: I grew up with the author in Jamaica, New York. I am so proud of her creative writing ability. Both of her novels immediately caught my interest. Both of her books tell it like it is, no sugar coating and no hollywood. Keep writing Maggie (only I can call her that) and we all love you her in New York.

Peace,

Emma D. King

Summary: A story that will take you there
Review: I have read both of her books (so far), and enjoyed them. However, this book is a story that is more relaxed than The Real Deal and an easy read. The characters are real. We've met them. We all have problems with our partner, our children, our school, and our career. A New Day discusses moving beyond our own limitations.

It's frightening, but true, how fragile a mother-daughter relationship can be. How do you have a fulfilling relationship with a man and protect your daughter? How do you balance work, school, family, and a new boyfriend without losing your sanity? Do you lose your sense of self when you move in with a man, and even worse, deal with his friends?

Read A New Day. You will enjoy it.

Summary: ???????????????/
Review: I have read this book and I liked and I didn't like it. I liked it because it helped me be okay with my struggles. The woman in the story, for me personally came off as to desparate. In my hardest times I have seen many(Ate greens for a month)I was not that desparate... I didn't like it because Carol-Anne was in too much of a need. A need to take care of her child, her home. And Max was her Savior.. A spouse or mate should not be a savior but a help meet for someone. She slept with rats.. Didn't want to take the father to court but slept with him... Couldn't get christmas presents... Christmas is the same date every year. So why not by a little through out the year. When she was with Max he was footing the bill, that would have been a goodtime to put a little aside....Also,she could have gotten a temp job for 3or 4 months or worked on the weekends.. I realize that this is just a novel and as my English teacher would say with out all of that there would be not plot... As a woman writer, I would thing that showing the struggle along with the determination would have been a better angle.. I am not for the superwoman game either but dag... Is it really that bad....

Summary: A VERY GOOD BOOK
Review: I just want to say, that I really enjoyed this book. I read warm hands and I thoroughly enjoyed that book also. I will be purchasing Butterscotch Blues and I am sure it will be just as good as the two books I've already read. Keep on writing Ms. Johnson-Hodge

Summary: Yes, this one is worth your time.
Review: I love the familar feel of these characters. I enjoyed the way this author took her time to paint these images...every sound they make, every tear they shed will seem real. This story of Carol Ann, a poor working class mom, doing her best under incredible odds drew me in almost immediately. Don't dismiss this as another "victims" book. This lady's a fighter and the story as moving as any you'll read.

Summary: love it!!
Review: I loved the Carol-Anne and Max characters. I think they were developed well. I also like the storyline that was going on. This is a inspirational and uplifting book for single mothers. Where are the Max's in real life? It also lets you see how observative your young one's are and you don't even realize it. This book is an eye opener, you deserve to be happy, but you have to respect your young ones as well. Carol-Anne had serious issues she had to deal with first before she could even imagine finding happiness. The book was uplifting. Good job Ms. Johnson-Hodge. Keep up the good work.
