Rating: Summary: Creative plot and storyline Review: He cheated on her, lied to her, and destroyed her trust. Still even a divorce cannot fully sever the ties that bind country singer Maggie Reid with to her scoundrel of an ex-husband. When he is reported missing, Maggie swallows her pride and askks police detective Marshall J. Weathers, a man who once promised to call her but never did, for help. While there a perky rookie makes it clear she and Marshall are dating.Feeling like leftover hash, Maggie goes to Vernell's home where she encounters a stranger carrying a gun. He wants her ex-husband too and threatens her before kissing and leaving her. Maggie's life plunges even lower when Vernell's car is found with a body inside. The victim is a moneyman for the Redneck Mafia and the millions he carried is gone with Vernell rumored to be the last person to see him alive. Maggie knows that Vernell is a rat but not a killer so she begins making her own inquiries without understanding the danger she is now in from unsavory characters. STAND BY YOUR MAN stars a protagonist who refuses to be anyone's doormat. Her romantic life, which is at ground zero by choice, should prove interesting as three hunks are dying (pun intended) to go out with her. The murderer is hidden in plain sight so that readers never guess the perpetrator's identity. This down home regional mystery really rocks (to a country tune that is). Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: Loved it! Can't wait for the third in the series! Review: I loved this series. Maggie is a great character and I really, really hope she ends up woth Harmonica Jack.
Rating: Summary: Fun, fun, fun! Review: Nancy Bartholomew has created a wonderful character in Maggie Reid. I loved Your Cheating Heart and was thrilled to find Stand by Your Man. The characters are realistic and the situations Maggie reid finds herself in are enjoyable and funny. The only people I can imagine not liking these books are people who don't like to have a good time.
Rating: Summary: Four Stars Review: STAND BY YOUR MAN is the second book in the Maggie Reid series. Maggie, a country singer, who attracts violent crime, murders and men like spilt Kool-Aid attracts ants. This book had me smiling from beginning to end. Although, at the end of the book I found myself HAVING to know if Maggie went with Marshall, the coffee-regular detective or Tony, the latte with the works private investigator...but I'll have to wait for the next book. I am sure it will be good, too.
Rating: Summary: Not As Good As The First Review: While I enjoyed the first book in the Maggie Reid series, I found this one lacking. The storyline was too centered around all the men after Maggie rather than the reason her ex-husband Vernell was missing. It was amazing that every time she had a crisis, there was at least one or more incredibly handsome men around to comfort her. It would have been more interesting to expand the plot of the "Redneck Mafia", given us more background on them to help build the story around Vernell's disappearance. I found Maggie a little too self-centered in this book.
