Rating: Summary: A Great Adventure Review: This book is absolutely charming! The witty banter between all the main characters-including the heroines brothers-was hilarious. A take charge heroine who isn't so prissy. A tomboy who shows that her true beauty is her wild and carefree spirit, but yet she can still catch the eye of the leading man. And to think she got noticed for exchanging her shirt and pants for a corset-isn't that just like a man. This has it all laughter, adventure, steamy sex scenes and charm. You will not be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: A fun lighthearted read Review: This book is perfect for those rainy sunday afternoons where all you want to do is escape for a while. I liked Payton a lot; she was a strong woman. Her brothers leave much to be desired, acting like uneducated drunken boors, but to their credit, they cared for her. Other than that, a good read!
Rating: Summary: A disappointment... Review: This book started out so well! In fact I laughed my head off at the beginning, then still really enjoyed the middle but it all fell apart at the end. Another reviewer pointed out that Drake was a bit too weak to be a hero. I thought so too - he always needed rescuing. The Honorable Miss Payton Dixon was very immature and childish - every bit a real teenager. Except in the field of (previously unexplored!) sexual experience! She was a real innovative pro there! Anyway - I felt no empathy for the characters and found the book frothy and frivolous. It certainly is NOT a keeper.
Rating: Summary: Holiday Fun. Just missed 5 Stars Review: This charming novel is the perfect companion for that Mexican vacation chair. It's quick paced, it's light reading, and it's very entertaining. The story begins with the banter between three older brothers and their unruly baby sister, Payton Dixon. Immediately, we are aware of Payton's struggle to keep her bosom inside the unfamiliar corset she is wearing. These brothers have raised nineteen-year-old Payton, onboard their clipper ships, and she is more accustomed to wearing a man's wardrobe. What a delightful young woman, she is unlike any leading lady I have yet to experience. Payton is wild, untamed, and frankly speaks her mind. Yet, on the other hand, she is sensitive, sensual, and naive. Her two most desired dreams: to be the captain of her brothers' newest ship, "The Constant", and to wed her secret love -- her brothers' best friend, Connor Drake. Ah, Captain Drake, a ravishing gentleman, an English Baron, and a man honor bound to marry a scheming vixen on the morrow.
Tonight, however, the game unfolds. Captain Drake cannot take his eyes off the ripening Miss Payton Dixon. He has just become "painfully" aware that Payton has "developed" into a much desired lady. Cabot skillfully spins her words creating enormous fun. I enjoyed this book. It is action packed, there is no arguing between the two main heartbeats, and the love scenes are steamy and sizzling. If there is a serious complaint, it is the tomfoolery of Payton's brothers. At times, their behavior seemed moronic. Overall, a great vacation book -- no worries, mate. Fluff, but oh such pleasant gossamer. Grace Atkinson, Ontario - Canada.
Rating: Summary: ABSOLUTELY ENCHANTING ! Review: While I enjoy the deepest and most provocative tales I can get my hands on I am also the first in line to read something that can entertain me with wit and imagination and not leave me feeling as though I have labored for hours. Cabot has created some of the most wildly outlandish and adorable as well as evil and unrehabilatable characters I have ever encountered. The dialouge and storyline however are equal to the task that her players find themselves facing. If you are in the mood to kick back and relax with a joyous, tender and enchanting evening's entertainment then you will not be disappointed with delightful creation.
Rating: Summary: A Very Enjoyable Book! Review: With the exception of "Portrait of My Heart" I loved all of Patricia Cabot's books. "An Improper Proposal" is no exception. I rank this book right up there along with "Where Roses Grow Wild." It was highly entertaining and very fun to read. My only complaint is that he didn't seem to love her as much as she loved him. After all she is literally the hero in the book. She saves him from getting married to a scheming hussy and she again saves him from death on the open sea. I can only guess he loves her because he never seems to express much affection towards her with his laid back responses. All in all, I still recommend this book.
