Rating: Summary: Sailed Through This Book... Review: ...It was just the ticket for getting me reading again. Funny, because I can see the flaws (like the problem with the ending -- it's a bit predictable and romance-novelly) but I really liked it anyway. I went to my local library (here in the US) and I'LL BE DARN it's the only book in the library by Catherine Alliott. I say, bring on more books by this author to the good ol' US of A! I love the way this woman writes, and I'm a writer myself. She has such a great way with words and phrasings, a delightful sense of humor, and I don't sense any pretentiousness in her style. Definitely not a Bridget Jones rip-off, like some of the "Brit Chick Lit" books (I just heard they're called that) seem to be. I recommend this book and I gave it a 5 Star because not only is it funny and fun to read, you will sail right through it and feel hungry for more books by the author when you're done. Am I in love? Maybe. Thanks for writing a great book!
Rating: Summary: Great balls of fire...until the end Review: I opened this book and could not put it down. I thoroughly enjoy many "Brit chick lit" authors and was delighted by both the writing and the story line. Catherine Alliott did an excellent job of creating believable characters and unexpected plot twists. That said, the ending fell apart like a three-layer cake I tried to bake in college that I forgot to let cool. It was as if the author was rushing to finish the book and make sure everyone ended up happy. I only wish she'd taken more time to delve into her characters and really think about what would have been more believable. A good-looking, never-been-married millionaire just waiting for the character to notice? Oh, please...real life is not like that. So what started out as a delightful romp turned into to a Harlequinesque mess. If I'd have wanted a romance novel with a trite ending I would have purchased one in advance. Because of the ending, this book should be marketed as a romance. It's a shame because Catherine Alliot is a real talent. Hopefully she'll do better next time and not serve up the usual "no woman is complete without a man" pap. Her character Lucy certainly deserves better!

Rating: Summary: Very entertaining! Review: I really enjoyed this book and hope that more people do so that Catherine Alliott will have more published in the US! If you like chick lit that's a little bit more that just clothes, dating etc. you will enjoy this book.
