Rating: Summary: Men cry in the dark Review: Again Michael has pulled it off, another great book that I enjoyed. I was impressed with this one as well. It is great to know men do cry. (Smiles) Mr. Baisden keep writing and I'll continue to buy.
Rating: Summary: Less than stellar Review: I was really expecting this book to be great! I was wrong. The title was gripping but the story itself was less than stellar. While the idea of the story was interesting, I felt the characters were under-developed. The only character that you really get any kind of feel for is Derrick, and you still don't get to know him all that well. You never have the opportunity to get to know the characters. You read about one facet of their lives, but that's it. I found the characters to be one-dmensional, the writing bland, and the story line predictable! Desite my view on the book, I applaud the author for his effort and his dedication to his dream!
Rating: Summary: Interesting............. Review: This is Michaels Baisdens 2nd book and boy was I imressed! The book starts off with the Derrick Reed Character..about how he beacme successfull with "Happily Single" Magazine and how the success sourounds his 3 best friends Mark, tony and Ben, all successful business owners.Thoughout the novel, the 3 friends perspective comes to play as Mark deals with an interracial relationship, Tony has baby drama problems and Ben ends up wit a 7 face tryflin hoe (who is only using him for his end)...But the best part of the book is the 360 degree turn of events in the "hotlanta " chapter, dealing with cheating on the dl.......Extremely good book, canted wait to read the Maintenance Man!
Rating: Summary: My favorite, Uncle Mike Review: I loved the book. As a matter of fact, I loved all of your books. I really like that a brother have entered the industry and is letting women know how and why react toward a lot of situations. I believe that a lot of brother will back me up when I say that we have a lot of your characters in us. We have all had our share of (Valeries) in our like. I'll make you a deal. If you keep writing great books, you will always have my business... Donald Tillman Jr. Jacksonville,FL
Rating: Summary: I'm glad I waited for the paperback Review: I give the author credit for coming up with an interesting premise -- the relationship between three 30-something upper middle class Black males and their day-to-day struggles. I even liked how the lead character left a cushy job at a big company to pursue entrepreneurship. But the lapses in the storyline and the numerous grammatical errors are distracting. And even though most of the affluent Black folks I know do NOT carry on the way these characters did in this book, I think I know what he was trying to do. It seems like he was trying to present an image of successful people who remained down-to-earth. Still, this book fell far short of my expectations and all of the hype. The elements of good fiction are a compelling story, multifaceted characters, and prose that flows. This book didn't have any of that.
Rating: Summary: Finished in 3 days Review: I thought the book was great. It was a definate page turner. It was great to get a man's point of view on relationships and women. I just past this book along to one of my friends and she is done already. 4 days!
Rating: Summary: This is Phenomenal! Review: First of all, I need to make sure everyone knows that Mr. Baisden is a terrific writer. This book answered so many questions and made it easier for me to understand how men think and what they go through. I found myself underlining things and taking notes. This is educational in every way. Women have always been known to be emotional and I believe this book also helped me realize that men have emotions too. I also like the fact that a woman (Nikki) completely dogged out Ben. Women are dogs too!, men are not the only ones doing the barking! What she did was not hard to believe but it just proves that the "emotional" ones are also capable of being back-stabbing and manipulative individuals! Overall, this book is a wake up call. I feel honored to have read it. This is a masterpiece! Even though I wished Derrick's situation would have worked out for the better, it was a happy ending after all. You never know you have a good thing until it's gone! Awesome work!
Rating: Summary: Looking for a good read.... Review: I found the book thoroughly entertaining. It was funny and believable. I appreciate the fact that it was from a man's point of view. I would recommend it and in fact, I am buying it for my best friend. The writing is really good - to the point that you think someone is actually conversating with you. I have a few issues with the writing style, but overall its a keeper. peace
Rating: Summary: Excellent reading Review: A women in the bookstore where I buy my books recommended this book to me, she was buying the Maintenance Man (same author). I decided to buy the book. Michael Baisden is deep, his writing kept me interested. I read the book in less then a week, it could have been less, if I didn't have a 2 year old. I read the book on the bus to work and from work. At night after I put the baby down, nap time, whenever there was a moment. I will son be reading his other books.
Rating: Summary: Two stars for effort. Review: I kept an open mind while reading but to no avail. Aside from very poor story development, I was appalled at the many, major errors (first person, grammar, etc). Baisden said this book is self-published. Every author I've known who self-published was very sure to utilize a professional proofreader/editor prior to sending the manuscript to press. By not doing so, Baisden has demonstrated to me that he is lazy, greedy, insincere, and disrespectful to his readers by publishing a faulty product. Also, the author needs to do his homework and research the subject(s) he is trying to write about. It is very obvious that he is writing from his imagination about affluence. Baisden has a credibility problem and I would never call him a real "writer." I guess I heard to much publicity about his book. Then I read it. I guess this type of writing is great for the young, hip-hop, gangsta rap, inner city adolescent. Escapism. I wish the author and his audiences well.
