Summary: Not a masterpiece but good
Review: During this past year, I read this interesting and funny book. I participate in a book club at the university that I attend and this was one of the titles read during the year. It came on the high recommendation of several of my male classmates, so I took the chance and read the book. Although not a literary masterpiece, the book opened the dialogue about real men. So many times we are fooled by the authors of these so-called real african-american love stories. Micheal Baidsen kept it real. He wrote about the men we see everyday, full of flaws but honest and good to the core. He put these men in real situations, from the baby mama drama to the white woman/black man relationship. I really enjoyed this book but what's better is the fact that Micheal has more males reading and I think that's saying volumes about the book and his work. Take note of this book. It gives you needed insight into the Black Male "BRAIN".

Summary: Shallow & Pathetic
Review: This was bad it was reccomended to me for my bookclub and we unanimously agreed it was by far one of worst books we've read. 1. The story remains around the arrogant character Derrick whom has a profile like Michael Basiden...that didn't take much imagination. Basiden never really develops the other characters like Mark and Ben and when did these men really cry? Please let me not forget the most unromantic oral sex scene I've ever heard of...Basiden must not have an appreciation for true oral love...only someone who didn't know what they were doing would wash it. Last who would dare compare Basiden to Terry McMillan...Terry is a storyteller...Basiden is just out to make some money off his Playa experience. If you want to read some good black male authors Read E.Lynn, Colin Channer, Franklin White and many more.

Summary: Spellbinding, well-woven, complex storyline
Review: This was a well written and detailed story about four childhood bestfriends who go through many ups and downs in life together and in their relationships of heart. These men gave an indepth outlook on how they view life, love and matters of the heart and soul. What's great is how each carries different views and just how different they truly are, even though they're bestfriends. They even struggle with keeping their own relationships with one another together. I was overjoyed by strong women like, Tracie and Angela and the support and comfort they gave. Valarie was a trip and had me scared for Erikah to. The locals were vivid and had me feeling as though I were a fly on the wall. Mike B.detailed the book very well. I felt he gave up too much detail in some parts of the book and he left me with a two-part question. What happened to Valarie and did Tony get Erikah or what? It as refreshing to read about men and their "DRAMA" for a change. Michael Baisden sure knows how to give it. He's the Terry McMillan of fiction, in my opinion.

Summary: REALISTIC, UNREALISTIC
Review: I enjoyed this book, even though I had trouble with it. Now I know some pretty successful brothers but they all don't drive Jags and Mercedes. For all the brothers to have it together and then all the sisters to have these stereotypes: ghetto, money hungry, high maintenance, and perfect. That was unrealistic. Now the brother tripping over his daughter, the interracial dating, and the brother with the 12 year olds I found that to be realistic. It was fun to read.

Summary: Good Read
Review: This book answered it for me. Men go through the trials and tribulations within relationships just as women do. The one possible difference-we tell all! This book was realistic-four brothers owning their own businesses, who all happen to be friends. I guess you surround yourself with "like" people. What so strange about that?

As for streotyping the "sistas", please, we women do it all the time. If the shoe doesn't fit, don't wear it. I thought the charactersation was "real", the storyline "real" and the ending good. I knew that Angela would take him back, WRONG! GOOD JOB and very ENTERTAINING!

Summary: Men cry in the Dark
Review: I really enjoyed this book. I wish it was on tape so my boyfriend could hear it. He hates to read!!

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: unrealistic
Review: I was very disappointed with this book. Everyone in this book was very unrealistic. Everyone owned their own business with a BENZ or a Jag. And what's up with Angela & Vanessa having to wear fake wedding bands to keep men from approaching them. Who does that??? Also, the dialogue was weak. There were also negative comments about overweight and uneducated people (women especially). And I thought it was so tacky of him to plug his own book, Never Satisfied: How & Why Men Cheat. Maybe next time, Micheal....

Summary: Good Reading
Review: I have to tell you that this was one of the best books that I have read. I am glad that Micheal Baisden has taken a step towards the truth of living in the 90's relationship situation. I thought that the characters all displayed some sort of personality trait that we see in someone, even ourselves, in everyday living. I was happy with this book but as some of the other reviewers have stated, I was a little disappointed. I was concerned with the stereotype that went along with the young African American woman...

Summary: Great, Beyond Belief
Review: Like most Black women, I am a fanatic about books, especially OUR books. Men Cry in the Dark was a story I needed to read mainly, because I needed to know if men really did cry. All too often you get used to the dog mentality that you face on the dating scene, but this book restored my belief that Black men should be valued for their gifts and strengths. The characters were so real and had real-life dramas. I have recommended this book to everyone I know. I also love to see Black men reading. Finally, there's a book out here that gives the male prospective for them. It's something I've been missing in my readings of other African-American novels. Brothers are tired of hearing only about the dilemmas that face that Black women and so am I. Thank you, Michael for bringing males issues to the surface. Never stop writing, if no one else reads your books, I DEFINITELY will.

Summary: A Sisters in Spirit Book Review
Review: I would like to applaud Michael Baisden's efforts in bringing us a true to life story. Overall the novel was a wonderful work. It definitely provided our group with a very provocative discussion regarding relationships today. Interracial dating, the "Single Man Syndrome", Older Men and Younger Women were all topics discussed in the novel. This title gave us a little insight into the issues men face today. However, I was very disappointed that the main character, fell into the "All Men are Dogs" category. This is definitely one of my favorites!
