Summary: Real Relationships
Review: A truthful look at how men feel about women and how women act toward men. Most men should be able to relate to one of the 4 primary male characters. If not there is always the other men in the book.

Summary: Great book!
Review: It's like an all male Waiting to Exhale... Wonderful book. I espicially love the ending. All I'll say is that it's not your usual storybook ending.

Summary: The Ladies Review Book Club
Review: Michael Baisden did an excellent job with this book. His portral of the "struggle" black men, "good" black men have to go through in finding a "good woman" is remarkable. His use of dialog kept me in touch with what was going on throughout the entire book. His writing in this book makes you feel as if you were there in the book as well. Men Cry In The Dark made me laugh, made me think and made me understand - somewhat, of what brothers have to go through. The Ladies Review would recommend Men Cry In The Dark to all of our brothers to read and learn.

Summary: BRAVO!
Review: I felt the book was very well written,& I really enjoyed reading it.I found it was a very hard book to put down. I loved the way the four guys remained the best of friends, not only that, they were all sucessful Black men, who knew what they wanted in life & didn't let the all the drama of growing up in the getto effect their ways of thinking. They all had little setbacks but, they managed to overcome them & didn't let them effect their goals.

Summary: It left me hanging
Review: Michael Baisden has suceeded in doing 2 things: 1. He has let women into the minds and hearts of men, from many different perspectives, and 2. He has painted accurate portraits of many different kinds of relationships with an original wit and style. This is a novel about 4 men I think the author really knows.

What I don't think works about this book is the fact that the format is not consistent. The reader gets into the mind of too many characters. If the book is written from the male perspective, have all the male characters tell the story. There should not be an instance where the reader gets the female outlook at all (in the female mind), they should be able to tell how all the women are feeling by their words and actions. Also the novel jumps from first person perspective to omnicient. A switch like that is confusing to the reader. This really takes away from an otherwise very good novel idea.

Another thing is that the ending is such a let down. If you are gonna write a book about love and dating, the ending has to end on a somewhat happy note. The guy is SUPPOSED to get the girl. If not the reader is left just hanging, or at least I know I was. To me the end (last page) read just like a self help, motivational novel, and I don't read those. Most of this book is filled with realistic portrayals of romance, if the author would've stuck with the formula, the character confusion would've been able to be easily overlooked.

Summary: Don't Waste Your Time
Review: "Men Cry in the Dark" is preachy, sermonizing and cliche-ridden. Unbelievable, unrealistic dialog is delivered by one-dimensional cardboard characters. There's no plot, and no point.
I was extremely disappointed, and I doubt that I'll buy another book by this author.

Summary: Made Me Cry
Review: I was extremely disappointed in this book. Throughout the book there was no draw to either the story or the characters. The author's attempt at sounding genuine and "real" was feeble. The events seemed forced and the characters where not believable. Not a single character in the book has the depth required to keep the reader interested. The author spends most of his time trying to impress the reader with needless and poorly placed details about his characters relating to the places they have been, the radio stations they listen to, the cologne they wear and the cars they drive. I may have passed the book over as simply having been poorly edited until I got to the section where one of the main characters starts praising another book the author has written. The book was one cliché after another. I was offended that the author felt he was "telling it like it is" for the Black community of America.

Summary: Solid book. Great read!!!
Review: I cannot wait to get my hand on more of Michael's books. Men Cry in the Dark was the first of his books I had ever read and I was not sure what to expect. Boy was I in for a surprise. It was GREAT and if anyone disagrees they need to read it again. His four main characters are very real and ladies...if you want to learn a bit about the brothers, especially those you want to get involved with, read this book so Michael can school you on the various "brother" personalities out there. The books is a great read and you can get wrapped up in the characters and their stories real quick. Check it out.

Summary: Men Cry In The Dark
Review: Having read "Never Satisfied: How and Why Men Cheat", I was drawn to a Michael Baisden seminar at Howard University to hear him speak. And before the seminar, he spent quite some time talking to me. This made me read "Men Cry In The Dark". I love Michael's way of writing and "Cry" was no different than the other books. It was touching and funny. Strong and to the point. The characters were vividly drawn and you got a pretty good sense of the inner motivation of each person. And, though we sometimes want life to be perfect with tied up endings, the reality is, life is - at best - uncertain and you don't always get everything you want. This made me actually enjoy the ending. For, as a strong African/Indian American woman, I was happy to see this brother lose the best thing that ever happened to him. I was happy this sister didn't just forgive and forget his betrayal. And I was very happy that, at least this one person would have to live with the consequences of his evil and selfish actions rather than be rewarded for them. This is how life is. And I am glad Michael Baisden writes this way. I HIGHLY recommend the book. And also The Maintenance Man (kind of hooky, but still good). :o)

Summary: Men Cry in the Dark
Review: The title of the book and the picture caught my attention, but that was the only thing that held my interest. I personally felt as if the characters in the book were unreal. The aurthor's writing style was poor, and undescriptive. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone.
