Rating: Summary: Totally a Waste of Time! Review: Such a waste of my valuable time. I really loved "The Maintenance Man" and had really high expectations for this book. This book started off on the boring side and didn't heat up until the last 100 pages but right when it was getting to the climax the book ended.... What the hell happened to Geno and why such a blunt ending? I have so many unanswered questions. Micheal has really turned me off with this book.
Rating: Summary: Good Read Review: This was a good page turner. I liked it, but my sister loved it. You won't be disappointed nor will you regret spending the money.
Rating: Summary: This Book Was Excellent Reading ! Review: I finally got around to reading this book. I have had this book for 1 year now. Got it signed last year by Micheal at the Essence Music Festival. Anyways I read this book in 1 day ! I really enjoyed reading about the 4 men protrayed in this book and how they were best friends. I like how Michael layed out in the book on how each man character cried and why. I think somebody should make a movie about this book. I could actually vision all the characters and different relationships in this book. I think every man has a friend or know a man who is naive like Ben was protrayed in this book. Every man has a friend or know a man who is like a Derrick. Derrick was a dog until he got dogged himself *smiling*. Most definately everybody knows a Tony or have a Tony in their life. Tony ex-girlfriend was a trip ! Oh ! and i just love how the little boy twins Tevin and Kevin were protrayed in this book. *smiling*. Poor Mark got hell from dating inter-racially. I'm glad Mark stuck with her tho and they both seem to be happy. Michael Baisden keep up the great writing skills. I will definately have to go buy your book "The Maintenance Man". I took a picture with you last year at Essence Music Festival and the film did not properly develop...... I was soooooo disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Smart and Funny Review: Another book that I coasted through in a 24 hour period. It seems to me that Micheal Baisden is a friendly author. An author that after you read one book, you warm up to his style and it's like a best friend welcoming you to read more of his words. This book has caught my attention, not only for its content and the characters, but the style. It's simple, yet complex at the same time. Words flow and the story follows along, as if it was prefection in the making. The story becomes apart of you after you read it, this is not a tale I will easily forget. The story is cool, until it gets to the cheating. Men of course have a lot to learn as do females in the love department. I must say I am tired of reding books where someone down talks interracil dating, it just brings poeple closer together, preparing the open minded ones to separate racism from common sence. The topic are well written and are especially controversial, and that makes things clear and relevant. I feel like that reading it I was set aside and wans't inside the story, race separated, there were bounderies. I don't like that, the story must be able to relate to all who would even like to eventually read the book. If you close people off when you write it safe to say you do it IRL. Which is lame. But enough of that, the story is good, and it's well written!
Rating: Summary: Almost made me cry too Review: When I bought and read this years ago, I expected something really DEEP. Baisden has very passionate opinions, and I hoped he would reveal them in this novel. "Men Cry in the Dark" was sometimes funny and entertaining, but never DEEP and stimulating. Perhaps 'cry' was a metaphor for talk because these men did talk in the dark, but no meaningful tears were shed. I did not sense, wipe, or taste the drop of a tear from the men nor myself. This one almost made me cry tears of disappointment, but I still enjoyed his other novels.
Rating: Summary: I DIDN'T WANT THE BOOK TO END! Review: THANK YOU MICHAEL BAISDEN! I HAVE WAITED SO LONG FOR A WONDERFUL BOOK TO COME ALONG AND HOLD MY ATTENTION AND KEEP ME READING ON AND ON. "MEN CRY IN THE DARK" IS A TRIBUTE. IT'S A TRIBUTE TO ALL WHO HAVE LOVED, WHO WANT TO LOVE AND EVEN THOSE WHO HAVE GIVEN UP ON LOVE. IT'LL SHOW US, AS NOT ONLY BLACK WOMEN, BUT WOMEN THAT OUR MEN DO FEEL, NEED, WANT AND LOVE IN MANY WAYS THAT WE DO AS WELL. IT ALSO TEACHES US TO PAPMER OUR LOVELY AFRICAN AMERICAN BROTHERS, FOR A LOT OF THEIR ISSUES ARE REALLY OURS ONLY IN HIDING. I LOVED EVERY MAN THAT WAS IN THIS BOOK AND ALL THAT THEY STOOD FOR AND DID. I HOPE THAT MR. BAISDEN KEEPS THE EXCELLENT BOOKS COMING.
Rating: Summary: JUST DESERTS Review: THE BOOK HAD ME INTHRALLED FROM BEGINNG TO END.IT SHOWS MEN DO NOT KNOW A GOOD THING TILL YOU LOSE IT. BUT THAT CAN BE SAID FOR MEN AND WOMEN.WHEN WE HAVE SOME ONE FOR OUR EVERYNEED WE TAKE THEM FOR GRANTED THEIR ALWAYS GONNA BE THERE.NO MATTER HOW WE TREAT THAT PERSON. JUST GOES TO SHOW HE MET SOMEONE WHO COULD PICK UP AND CUT THEIR LOSSES JUST LIKE HIM.
Rating: Summary: eeeewwwww..... Review: This book tries too hard for success, but it's pretty bad nevertheless; the plot is all wrong, in the trash it belongs, and the ending's a terrible mess.
Rating: Summary: Some parts were unbelievable Review: I think the book was okay. It grabs you in the beginning, but it starts to lose you 1/3 of the way. We learn about 4 men and their girlfriends. The book is another "Waiting to Exale" just with four males and not four women.
Rating: Summary: Degrading to the African-American Race Review: I read this book and was horrified to find that an African-American man could feel so bad about his race. This book is full of sterotypes that the media bombards our people with. How can one love himself and hate where he comes from.
