Summary: BLACK MEN DO READ . . .
Review: There are 2 sides to the dating game. Yet the book market usually just tells it from the women's side. Contrary to that subtle deduction, black men DO read. How nice it was to come across "Men Cry in the Dark" in a female-dominated book market innundated w/the Terry McMillans and BeBe Moore Campbells. Thanks, Mr. Baisden for representin' the brothas. I look forward to your next book.

Summary: Good attempt. I'm sure the author will improve.
Review: This was a good attempt at doing "Waiting to Exhale" from the male point of view. However, some of the characters were too shallow, and not developed enough. The main "pretty boy" whined quite a bit. Oft times, the author got too into name dropping...especially when the men were describing their clothes and cars. It's nice to know that men love these things as much a women, but the overkill on the name dropping made the men seem materialistic (male gold diggers!) Of the Black men I know, although they love their positions, especially their cars and their stereo equipment, few MATURE men let those material possessions define who they are. Unfortunately the main character defines himself by his possessions and sexual prowess -- come now, isn't it more to men than what they own and how long they can carry out the sex act? Also, please get a professional grammerian/proofreader. It was quite annoying to have tense changes, no subject/verb agreement, and sometimes, even the narrator changed mid-thought.

Summary: I loved the book from beginning to end.
Review: This book verbalizes the inner veiws of four black men in four very different, but common situations that involve love, sex, family, and career. It may have had a few grammatical errors, however, that did not deter me from receiving the point that Mr. Baisden was trying to make. He is very talented and creative and I look foreward to seeing more literature from this author.

Summary: Why did he write this?
Review: My book club read this book. No one liked it. It was full of cliche and name/designer dropping. There were also a number of grammatical errors. We thought maybe the author was stuck on himself and was trying to mirror the book after his imaginary life. Mr. Baisden, good effort but, don't quit your day job.

Summary: One of A kind!
Review: First, I would like to thank Michael for creating such an exiciting book. He is ane unique author. The characters intact with one another like brothers created from one womb. I can't believe how it turned out. Great! I would tell you guys more about the book, but books are supposed to be understood by the readers point of view. I recommend this book to all men, women, and all those people who really would do just about anything for someone they truly love in the world. I'll let just you figure out what the book is about...

Summary: Chicago
Review: I liked this book because it took place in Chicago. It made me feel like I was at home again. Angela was the bomb and the end shocked me. Good Read!

Summary: Insightful
Review: Well I found the book to be quite interesting and insightful. This book gives a look at the inner circle and the foundation of male friendships it also speaks of how much men really value the opionions of their fathers and friends.. I come from a large family of black men and I have often wonder do men really cry at all sometimes. Brother sometimes try to present this image of being so hard and masculine. Gentlemen we all know that is because men have such huge egos they sometimes chose to ignore or "pretend" like the women they indulge in relationships with does not affect them... This book also tells us sisters we have already known for yrs but never really had the affirmation the saying of " you never miss a good thing until it is gone" well this books reaffirms that truth.. Finally it made me kinda of sad because I would like to hope that the little headed does not win with every man.

Summary: Four friends, four stories
Review: The central character of the book is a successful black man named Derrick, obviously Michael Baisden's alter ego. He meets Ms. Right, Angela, and doesn't place any value on being faithful to her, which depends on how much sex she has been giving him lately. Actually it kind of makes sense. To me, a really beautiful marriage would not include having the wife turn her husband down and frustrate him. But it also definitely wouldn't include either of them maintaining secrets from the other, sneaking around. Will she take the dog back? Give him a second chance?

The other main characters are Derrick's longtime male friends, Tony, Ben and Mark. Tony's problems concern an ex-girlfriend who had a child with him and who now complicates his life. Ben's problem is that he falls for pretty young girls who use him for his money and don't care for him. Mark's problem is the friction caused by the reaction to inter-racial dating.

This story held my interest. It is the only story I can think of offhand where I rooted for the guy NOT to get the girl back, because the guy comes off as very superficial and self-absorbed. He places so much emphasis on the finer things in life, the name brands, the Armanis and such. To me, that doesn't bring any pleasure or pride. I drive a Corolla and I wouldn't take a Mercedes for free. Not impressed. I'd rather wear jeans than Italian suits. In fact, I'd accept less money to take a job where I could wear jeans than a higher paying suit and tie job. Fancy things are just annoying to me. I can afford some of them, but I don't want them. And if I was dating a girl who valued Armani suits I'd think she was a dope, and I'd drop her, after making fun of her.
