Summary: too stereo-typical with no plot
Review: After much anticipation I was thoroughly let down by this book. Michael Baisden came on KJLH pumping up this book like it was all that. None of the characters were interesting, neither were they believable. I only finished reading the book because I payed $22 for it. The only likeable character in the book was Angela, she was actually real and had it together. I hope that there is no sequel. The book was total fantasy. At Toni and Tracy's wedding, why did Tony pick everyone who was in the wedding? Tracy had no relationship with the women in the wedding. Usually the bride chooses her very best friends. Baisden tried to incorporate every black stereotype he could think of in this book to the point of overkill. The book read like a very badly written soap-opera. I would never recommend this book or the author to anyone.

Summary: Mr. Baisden, I loved "both" your books
Review: Mr. Baisden,

I truly enjoyed the depth of your honesty. I read "Never Satisfied: How and Why Men Cheat", and I must say that when I first saw the title, I told my girlfriends that I just HAD to have that book because I wanted to know just what it was that made men cheat. After reading the first couple of chapters I thought it was going to be a female bashing book. I enjoyed reading it and it truly opened my eyes to some things that we as Black females do to push our Black men away. Thank you for shedding light. I already bought three copies of that book for my girlfriends.

Now, "Men Cry In The Dark", that book really and truly touched my heart. The way you showed the different lives of 4 men and the different way all of them handled their relationships was great. Although, I would like to say, I am a 27 year old, divorced, black female with two daughters, and your portrayal of single females with kids was off base a little. Not all of us are NIKKI. My motto is: if I can't get it on my own I don't need it. I stand by that strongly. I want my daughters to grow up to be strong Black Queens, and the only way that can be achieved is if they have a Queen to look up to. I don't look for anything from anyone because I know Im striving to do what I have to do for myself.

Summary: I Had To Finish This Book .....
Review: I just finished this book last night and I must say that I was/am very, very disappointed; I truly hated this book. I brought this book as a possible selection for my book club and based on the strength of his first book, what was I thinking? I cared nothing about any of the characters, didn't want to get to know any of the characters. Derrick? Please, how can you feel sympathy for someone who whines that they want a women to support them and can't support Angela when she's trying to close the deal on her health spa? Someone who runs off and sleeps with someone, because he wasn't "getting it" the way he thought he should. Yes, it takes two to tango; but, Mr. Derrick "loved" Angela, she was "the one", remember? Then the way it was played off in the end was lame, plain lame. Mark? His reasons for not dating black women was stupid, stupid, stupid. He's going to hold black women accountable for some dumb crap that happened to him when he was younger? To me, he's no better than the brothers out there who would only date someone for the complexion of their skin or their size. Tony? Well, Tony was the only one that I semi-liked. I know brothers out there who go with the dumb mess with their baby mothers. Ben? Ben is just plain lost. He got what he deserved - bottom line.

I disliked the point that if the women in book didn't have a college diploma, they weren't really "worth" anything. PLEASE!! Negative people comes in across the board, college diploma or no college diploma. Having that piece of paper doesn't judge your worth. I also take exception that all of these women were drop dead gorgeous, and when Ben did hook up with someone his own age, the fact that she was a little "chubby" was okay. This book wasn't a real representation of black men or women in this country.

Why is it that except for Tracie, Nickki, Denise, and Angela, basically all the other women in this book were portrayed in a negative light? We can also talk ab! out the grammar and lack of proofreading of this book; but, it's been covered already.

I'm a avid reader and I believe in supporting our own; but, not terrible writing as this. I could go on for days with the reasons why I hated this book so much.

Okay, this author is one and one in my book, the next book he writes will be borrowed from the library and if it is as lousy as this one, I won't be supporting him anymore, period.

Summary: A MUST READ!!! SPREAD THE WORD!
Review: I could not put this book down! Thank you Michael for such a wonderfully written, heartwarming, and extremely FUNNY novel about four positive black men. It's refreshing to hear from a man's perspective for a change. Keep up the good work Michael. This is a great script for a movie! I look forward to reading your next book.

Summary: A BREATH OF FRESH AIR!
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It has been a long time since I've read something so refreshing(Waiting to Exhale!). This book brought the light to four positive young men who were about positive things(for the most part). I read this book in a day and a half. It's one you just couldn't put down. Keep up the good work Mr. Baisden. Don't let those who obviously lack imagination and vision discourage you from yours. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR TALENT!!!!!!!!

Summary: Both entertaining and motivational book.
Review: I initially thought this book was full of dry, social do's and don't's from men to women. I was surprised and excited to discover it consists of short stories reflecting both sides of relations. It also reinforced there are other possible roles available to me if I only accepted a broader prospect of life and put forward the necessary personal energy to positively respond to these opportunities. I, for one, hope for a wide, diversified style of living, away from the "same old, same old" socialable accepted norms. This has been another step in that direction.

Summary: Book was good character change needed but good.
Review: book was intersting but need to relate more to the average black person, not one of the main characters worked at Nation's Bank or was a full-time student.

Summary: Michael Baisden is telling this story from the heart
Review: Men Cry In The Dark is a refreshing change of pace. A book about black men and their emotions. Derrick, Tony, Benjamin, and Mark are all strong brothers with different tastes in women and different ideas on what it takes to have a good relationship.Getting an inside story on the way men feel was very enlighting. The ending was right on the money.

Summary: Baisden masterfully painted the dating game picture!
Review: This book was great! I read it in two days, only because I had to go to work! For the critics who didn't like the book (female).... I guess you know everything, or you're the "Dog Catcher". And of course for the men who didn't like the book...oh well, we would expect it from you. You dont want those "secrets" out, huh? To Michael, our book club (Sister,Sister!) is a really big fan of both of your works. Keep up the good work.
