Rating: Summary: I laughed 'til I cried! Review: Michael, you've done a great job. I don't understand what all of the bad reviews are all about. Seems to me that some of the things identified in the book may be hitting home. I found the book to be good reading. Readers, examine yourself. Is it that you hate the book, or that you hate the reality that the book brings to light.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I've read this year! Review: I loved this book. I don't understand all the negative reviews. What's not to like? You get a chance to understand what motivates the characters to react the way they do each other and situations in their individual lives. As far being realistic I know brothers very similar to some of the characters in this book.P.S. Michael please post when your next seminar is coming to New York City, I'd love to be there!
Rating: Summary: ENJOYED IT Review: Thought the book was quite insightful and provided a new outlook on dating and relationships from our prospective. There is room for improvement but there isn't that the same for all that are aspiring for greatness as writers. I admire this effort and look forward to the next one.
Rating: Summary: NOT BAD, BUT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER Review: "MEN CRY IN THE DARK" WAS A DECENT FIRST ATTEMPT AT A FULL LENGTH NOVEL BY THE AUTHOR. THERE WERE SEVERAL AMUSING AND/OR TOUCHING MOMENTS FOR EACH OF THE 4 MAIN MALE CHARACTERS. MY GREATEST DISLIKE WAS THAT MANY OF THE EVENTS IN THE BOOK WERE TOO STEREOTYPICAL. NEVERTHELESS, I WILL TRY THE AUTHOR'S NEXT NOVEL AND I WILL EXPECT MUCH IMPROVEMENT.
Rating: Summary: I Really Enjoyed This Book!! Review: Due to some of the negative reviews I read here about this book I was apprehensive about reading it. I was pleasantly surprised. I thought this book gave a very real portrayal of relationships from the male point of view. I personally liked the way it ended because I thought it was realistic. I would have done the same thing that Angela did. The best thing I liked about this book was that Angela was a Delta!! You go Michael!!
Rating: Summary: How Could Anyone NOT Like This Book? Review: As far as the GRAMMATICAL ERRORS go, people, you CAN NOT fault the author for that. If you know anything, you'd know that was the publisher's fault. That's like blaming Denzel Washington or Samuel Jackson for the script or cinematography in a movie they acted in. If you had problems with the editing, voice that w/the publishing company (I believe Mr. Baisden addressed that with the publisher). The ONLY reason I could see anybody not liking this book, is perhaps they saw THEMSELVES portrayed, and sometimes we as humans don't like to see our negative sides. But the book was NOT all negative. Finally, someone published something w/4 positive brothas w/decent careers and not just "getting by." I know I may be rambling, but it just incenses me how we as Afr-Amers moan and whine about how we are portrayed in the media or books, and finally, someone comes along and does something positive----and we complain about how "unrealistic" or trash their product. Mr. Baisden, I commend you. Keep going, and I'm one brotha who'll be one of the first people in line to get your next book. Peace black man. END
Rating: Summary: THANKS FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT Review: BOY! Some of the comments out there are really hostile and nasty. I must have hit a nerve. (ha ha) Oh well, I guess it's true what they say, "You can't please all of the people all of the time." What I really wanted to write in and say was thanks, Thanks for supporting Never satisfied, Men cry in the Dark, and my new relationship video . Love, Lust, and Lies. Those of you who have attended my seminars will love the tape. You can purchase it through the book stores as of June 26. Speaking of the seminars, it was great talking with all of you aspiring authors in Detroit at Cobo Center in Cleveland at the Marriott, and in Atlanta at the Omni Hotel. I sincerely hope that you will use the information I gave you to aggressively pursue your dreams of writing your own book. Since my last entry I have moved to Hotlanta to write my next book, it should be released late 1999. By the way, if any of you happen to be in Atlanta during the weekend of june 26 feel free to come by Hairston's night club in Stone Mountain and sing happy birthday. I'll be hosting my birthday party and showing clips from the video. (Details will air on V103 radio station. Again I want to thank you again for supporting a brother who is simply trying to offer a different perspective. Hopefully some of the haters out there will learn to understand and appreciate that. In the meantime, I'm going to keep it real and let the chips fall where they may. Until my next entry, God bless and stay out of trouble, especially you brothas here in Atlanta. There are enough beautiful sistahs here to get a priest in trouble!
Rating: Summary: It was like you knew someone just like the characters Review: Micheal I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I attended your seminar on 6/4/98 at the Batties Ford Library. I didn't get to hear the entire seminar due to me getting off work late. However I went out and got the book the following day. Once I purchased the book I couldn't put the book down because I wanted to know what was going to happen next. The Character I liked the most was Derrick. However, I felt that he was the one who used the worst judgement of all the characters. I hated that Anglea did not give him another chance. The relationship for her must have been more of a challenge than love or she had issues too, and was using him to get back at the man before him. If she loved him she would have been able to set down and discussed what happened. I personally think that she set him up to see if he cared about her. He of course fell for the bait. When Derrick learned that Vanessa was an aquaintance of Angela's he should have sent her packing. When she told him that she had met Angela, indicating that Angela told her all about him, and gave details he should have known she had a motive. He evidently was not listening to what she was telling him regarding she and Angela meeting. He was so busy concentrating on getting his groove on. Oh and when she came to the motel and cought him in the room with Vanessa he's going to make her leave as if she was the one in the wrong. He should have at least sent Vanessa packing. It was like he chose Vanessa over his woman. That's where he messed up his chances of working things out with her. We don't like to play second especially when we are suppose to be "the one". The Ben's situation he should have used better judgement. He should have known what Nikki's motives were when she took so long to be initimate with him. No, she didn't have to sleep with him right away, but she acted as if she didn't want to kiss him either. Ben knew that Nikki was lazy and didn't have anything going for her yet continued to keep her around. He better be glad he didn't g! et trapped like Tony. And why do they have unprotected sex then complain about catching something or she trapped me when she gets pregnant? He must have really been whipped when he allow that young girl to tape them having sex. Please, know telling what she could have done with the tape. I wouldn't be surprised if she tried to sell it on the black market. Now he knows where she was getting all that extra cash. I could really feel the frustation that Tony's girlfrined was going through. I've been there and when you get involved with a man who has a child by another woman, you are actually dating her too in a sense. I had to give her her prompts on how she handled the situation. It can be very frustrating. At least Tony didn't let her manipulate his relationship by using the child to try and get what she wanted. Of couse he had a "Strong black woman" by his side to help him deal with that situation. The guy who had the white girlfriend "Christy" I think he handled his situation rather well. When dating outside of your race there's going to be obstecles. There are obstecles when you are dating someone of the same race. Christy on the other hand should have known better then to try and come in between their friendship. She was definitely trying to regulate her man's coming and going. I guess I could continue to critique this book all night. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Even though the characters weren't real it was like you knew someone in each or the character's situation. I just want to say "Good Job" Mr. Baisden and I look forward to attending your next seminar on relationships when return to Charlotte, NC
Rating: Summary: Terrific Review: I just loved this book, and the only reason I gave the book a 9 is because Derrick just ticked me off! I really enjoyed this book. Keep up the good work.
Rating: Summary: Excellent!! A Must Read!! Review: A standing ovation to Michael Baisden. I've read some of the bad reviews this book has gotten, and all I can say, as I said for "Waiting to Exhale," if the truth hurts, maybe some folks need to check themselves! I've been waiting a long time for the bothas to stand up for themselves and show that you go through ups and downs, both in and out of relationships, as we do. Thank you Michael for not only a great story, but for the believable characters as well. I hope to see this on the silver screen soon. Congratulations!
