Summary: the book was damn good
Review: I picked up "Men Cry in the Dark" solely on a whim. I was recommending a book to my friend when I came across the title. Upon reading it I immediately got hooked. The way it was written and the stories of each character really moved me.

Speaking as an African American male I can relate in one way or another with every character in the book, because I knew someone who when through similar problems. Every black male out there knows someone who is like at least one of the characters in the book. Also it was really nice to have a book written for a change that shows some successful black men. This gave me hope that if a black male really puts his mind to it he can accomplish anything.

I read the comment by one of the reviewers who mainly looked at stupid little things like how many candles was in a room. If that is all you saw, then that was all you were looking for and you missed the whole story.

I liked the book and recommended it to everyone I know who can truly appreciate it. Even though it may have been fiction. It still addressed the frustrations and problems of many black men in the world. Successful or not. It made me pick up his first book "Never Satisified: How and Why men cheat," and definitely made me a fan. My only questions are. Are there any plans for a movie and when is your next book coming out?

Summary: So proud of this homeboy!
Review: What a wonderful and refreshing insight into the minds of our black men. Too bad there aren't more books like this one! I will do my part in recommending this book to all I meet and will even give copies away as presents during our black history month celebration on my job. Keep up the excellent work Michael, we're proud of you here at home. Please make a movie from this book and get Cedric the Entertainer as Ben!

Summary: The book was outstanding.
Review: I received the book on a Monday and by Friday I had read the whole book. I could not put the book down. First the book kills the myth that men do not cry and that men are cold unfeeling creatures. The 4 men in the book were just the opposite of these stereotypes. One was willing to be a father to his child and to also be a positive role model. All the these men were educated, not only had a job but a career, and for the most part their own business. Michael Baisden did an excellent job in portraying our beautiful black brothers in a very good light. This shows that not all black men or even men in general are dogs, shiftless, and just down right no good. My hat's off to you Mr. Baisden

Summary: Micheal Baisden, author of "Men Cry In the Dark"
Review: "Men Cry In the Dark" fiction novel from Michael Baisden is an phenomenal piece of work and very entertaining. I actually enjoyed this type of novel and it topics pertaining to African-American men in today's society. It put the myth that men do not have emotions in the spotlight. An at the same time informed the literary media that Africanan-American men want love too, and they make fools too. It is the reality that I learned growing up in St. Louis, Missouri. I appreciate that fact that Michael Baisden took and image and wrote a equitable novel. Because a matter of fact, I have made sociological assessment of men in my hometown and have been more prayerful for my brothers and that "they will rise" alternatively beating the odds. In my upbringing I my college professor would persuade me to read psychology/self-empowerment/self-improvement Psychology books analyzing my cultural and our socioeconomic/slavery excuses. I do not know if Michael Baisden will schedule to re-visit St. Louis next year or just respond to my review, but his novel gave me a another re-enforcement that God has a gift for everyone. If you get time read Friends, Lovers, and Soulmates by Mr. and Mrs. Derek Hopson.

Sincerely,

Amethyst Morris

Summary: This book is so exhilarating!!! As real as it gets!!
Review: Those of you who didnt like this book probably dont care much for the realities of life. I had been in the dating game for many years and am now married. This book has the best insight into relationships that i have ever read. The people are REAL. Remember there are some folks who do have degrees, successful careers, nice homes etc. We are rising as a group. I'm tired of those books where everyone was from a small southern all black town, ate mayonnaise sandwiches and worked at the nearest chemical plant. This book made me feel like i was listening in on men's inner thoughts and conversations. I know I've experienced, personally many of the things that happened in this book. I can almost identify a person I know for every character. So to say the book is not real is NOT TRUE. Maybe its not your reality but it certainly is mine and most of the women I know.

Summary: Hmmmmm, what's wrong with this picture?!?
Review: At the recommendation of several friends, I finally read this book. Do you get the feeling Michael Baisden should stick to non-fiction?!? A little too far-fetched, a little too unreal, and a great deal disjointed. The entire novel almost seemed to be a slew of vignettes strung together in the hopes of creating a cohesive and smooth read. Sadly, it failed to reach that conclusion for me. There were numerous points in the novel where the text contradicted itself. Case in point, the chapter where Ben is angry with his live-in love, and he is on his way home to confront her. Well, in one paragraph it speaks about Ben peeking into the house to see it lit up all over with candles; in the VERY NEXT PARAGRAPH, the reader is told that the house is dimly lit with only two candles and the light coming from the kitchen. It's instances such as this that left me feeling like I was reading more than one novel simultaneously. And the ending was left hanging way too high in the! air. Throughout the novel it seemed clear that it was the author's intent for the main characters to be the four men. However, only one character's situation was resolved (if you can even call that weak ending being anything near a resolution), and that was Derrick. Well, what about the rest of the men? It didn't seem to me as if the ending was designed to open the door for a sequel; it merely seemed as if the ending was not well thought out at all. I have no real problem with the overall gist of the novel, because, basically, a dog is a dog is a dog -- be it man or woman. But it also seems that in trying to be the male mouthpiece for the masses, little, if any, thought was given to what was actually being written about. This isn't about playa hating. It's about a weak story. Which this was. It's not a novel I would recommend.

Summary: I feel that the book gave a negative image of black women.
Review: This book made it seems as though Black women are still behind in many ways. My biggest gripe is due to the fact that if you did not have a degree you were seen as ignorant in the eyes of these men. Then you have "Brothas" discrimantaing on "Sistahs" because of something in the past. That is ridiculous. Some of the things that the character that dated the white girl let slide tripped me out. Black men know that they won't let a black women get away with these types of things, but it is alright for them to be done by a white woman. Also when they were in the Drug dealers house and they saw the room that contained the drugs don't you know that they would not have made it out of there. The book was a little too fake for me and I didn't like it at all and don't recommend it to anyone.

Summary: Enjoyed it!
Review: I was misled by the title but overall I enjoyed the book. I would say that Derrick and Angela were my favorite couple though I think Ben deserved better. I appreciated the advise given to Derrick by his father when he was playing the "waiting game" with Angela. Too many relationships are lost due to we adults that find it difficult to be "real" with our feelings. It's such a shame we live in a world where we have to constantly be on guard from getting our feelings hurt. This was a good book. I also enjoyed "How and Why Men Cheat." It was very enlightening. I look forward to your next book.

Summary: A Perfect Gift to Every Daughter From Her Mother
Review: Michael Baisden has done an excellent job of reenforcing all of the things that Mother's have and are continuing to warn their daughters above relationships. After reading this book, I don't see how any woman can say, "I just didn't know". Michael has said it ALL!!!!!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Highly interesting and true to form- realistic/will recommen
Review: Brother! Brother! or Player!Player!Which character really reflects you! Overall the book is one to be recommended across the readers book circuit. The characters are REAL, but I must admit the ending was different from my prediction but brother let the pen continue to write the best for your faithful readers! The climax in your story exhaled the rules of friendship and skillfully revealed the movie version of "a thin line of love and hate", however the essence of your book took off and landed with sensitive issues relevant to reasons why good men sometimes end up last wherein a good woman is really hard to find.
