Rating: Summary: Enlightening Review: This was my first experience with a Baisden novel. It started off kind of slow, but overall, I enjoyed the book. It seemed true to life. I liked the fact that most of the characters were law-abiding and able to support themselves. What's wrong with brothers wanting women who are financially stable? Mr. Baisden did a good job describing the characters. Kevin and Tevin (the terrible twins) were a trip! The ending left me a bit dissatisfied, but I guess you cant win them all. Overall...a good read.
Rating: Summary: Big Waste of Time Review: If you are looking for a book that gives you insight into the world of African American relationships, then this is not the book for you. This has to be one of the worst books I have ever read. The only reason I finished it was because it was so God-awful, I just had to see how it ends.Basically, Mr. Baisden tells us (over and over again) that men are looking for beautiful, intelligent, financially secure (he stresses this point way too often), street smart and professional women. Okay, we get the point. This theme is repeated in nearly every chapter of the book. All of the characters are completely one-dimensional and the dialogue at times is laughable if not absurd. The characters, both men and women, speak in the same voice so it is hard to distinguish who is narrating the chapters. Who was the editor of this book as many of narration doesn't even make sense? I am supposed to believe that a professional poised women would pummel a man to a bloody pulp and only come out with a bruised knuckel? We get lots of unrealistic gems such as this all throughout the story. So, I guess the point of this book is so we know that jerks have feelings too. Now that I have just revealed the big epiphany, don't waste your time with this book.
Rating: Summary: a must read Review: Man this book speaks volumes to me. Especially the interracial relationship part of the book. It so rings true. Everything else pretty much reflects the lives of people I know who have dealt with life. You must read it!!!!
Rating: Summary: Great Page Turner Review: I found this to be a very well writen book. This book kept my interest during the entire story. I read this book in about 4 hours. I couldn't put it down!
Rating: Summary: EXCEPTIONAL!!! Review: This novel was absolutely a must read for both men and women who are both single and married. The 4 main characters who are all 4 black upwardly-mobile men was indeed a page turner. It consisted of some serious drama and some very steamy romantic scenes. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Read Review: Men Cry in The Dark is hilarious! It is a book given from a male's point of view. Baisden created every main character in the book with a different issue. I would say it is the men's version of Waiting to Exhale. One had baby momma drama, one liked only young girls, one had not commited to one woman.... After reading the book I found myself wanting to know more about them. I didn't want the book to end. Reading the book was more like looking at a movie instead of reading a book. Read it, you won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT BOOK Review: MEN CRY IN THE DARK WAS THE FIRST MICHEAL BAISDEN BOOK I HAVE EVER READ.THIS BOOK DEALS WITH MANY DIFFERENT ASPECTS LOVE IN RELATIONSHIPS. THIS BOOK WAS SO DETAILED YOU COULD SEE A VIVID IMAGE OF THE CHARACTERS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU.I WASN'T ALWAYS A READER BUT THIS BOOK IS SO REAL AND INTERESTING THAT I HAVEN'T PUT A BOOK DOWN SINCE ESPECIALLY A MICHEAL BAISDEN BOOK.
Rating: Summary: Another great book from Michael Baisden Review: There was practically no putting down this book. The only complaint I have is it jumps from character to character during each chapter and it gets confusing as to which character is narrating at the time. Not only does is the story told from the four main male characters, but at times, also from their significant others'. Other than that, lots of tension and drama to keep the story flowing. I highly recommend this novel.
Rating: Summary: Tittle does not Match The Book! Review: This book is fun and Interested, but very unrealistic. I don't know why is called Cry in the dark, It should be call successful men seeking successful women. The male characters look down on women who are not Independent or does not have a Career, from my point of view, the characters were Money hungry. they complain about not finding Mrs., right. Mrs. right can't be Independent, sexy, childless, fun, and etc. In order words these men wanted a Barbie doll, Including Ben, who is a 35 year Old Entrepreneur who dates only young women, but refuse to understand that it comes with a price, and that price is money. Tony and Derrick cried in the book. They really did not have any good reason to cry, Is good when a man cried, it relieve tension and stress, and yes men do cry too. The Female characters were not positive at all, except Angela, because she had the dignity and self esteem not to take Derrick back after what he did. Tony's fiance, is the common women who accept and tolerate a man's baby Drama. I do not know any black men who will be engaged to a woman knowing that the father is unstable or is giving them problems. The book was positive, since it shows that all these black men grew up together and maintained their friendships. This book is good and bad, even Thu it Was unrealistic. Will I recommended this Book? yes I would, because I did enjoyed but I don't believe in it.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put the book down Review: My husband really bought it....he was talking too long to read it. So, I took over the book and couldn't put the thing down. I love this book. I'm now reading "Gods Gift To Women" and I'm sure it will be good.
