Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT, VERY POSITIVE AND VERY REAL!!! Review: This book puts it out there!! Unless you are very niave or blind, and you are someone that can not handle the truth, you will not enjoy the book. This book is for a real man and a real woman! Because we are not afraid of the truth.
Rating: Summary: Yo, there are a lot of haters out there! Review: I picked up this book about two weeks ago and skimmed right thru it. The only reason I picked it up was because it almost caused a mini-gender riot in my office. We all heard Mike on the radio (WKYS 93.9 "Russ and Olivia" morning show) here in the DC area and heard all of the women calling the show talking about how they disagreed with all the negative stuff he was saying about the "game". In this book, I believe that brotha just opened up ya'lls eyes to see how black women are coming off in the 'naughty 90's'. Mike isn't saying that all women cover up for there men cheating, or being naive about the "game" or whatever else some of ya'll playa haten women are complaining about. This is reality today. I enjoyed the book for having characters (the 'bout it black men) that weren't broke or poor or out hustlin' drugs or trying to be rap stars, like we are portrayed in other novels. I haven't read too many books showi ng brothas with any kind of prowless until this one. Mike explains why women trip and fall trying to be all this and that and why brothas today don't have time to be into all of that. I'm about to finish reading "Never Satisfied...", which is true to the core. I look forward to reading some more of Mike's work like the one he said he was working on for next year, "The Maintance Man".
Rating: Summary: READ IT BEFORE WHY MEN CHEAT, VERY GOOD Review: I THOUGHT THE BOOK SHOWED THE MORE SENSITIVE BROTHER. BUT FELLAS REMEMBER JUST BECAUSE A WOMAN HAS A FIRM BODY AND LONG HAIR DOES NOT THE PERFECT WOMAN SHE MAKES. IT WAS SO ENLIGHTING TO SEE BROTHERS WHO ACTUALLY PRAYED AND WASHED THEIR HANDS AND FACES BEFORE EATING WITHOUT BEING TOLD TO DO SO. MICHAEL YOU KEEP WRITING SUCH FANTASTIC BOOKS - AND I WILL KEEP BUYING THEM. I ONLY WISH THOSE MEN WERE FOR REAL!!! YOU GO BOY!!!!!
Rating: Summary: MUCH LOVE TO A BROTHER WHO IS REAL, GOD BLESS YOU Review: I was given the opportunity to speak on our local radio station (WHUR)here in DC while Mr. Baisden was the guest for the evening. This man is trully blessed. He has given women the chance to see things from a man's point of view. He writes with vigor and pizazz. I am going through (correction, have recently gone through)some of the things his books talk about. I shall say it's all about what we as women allow. I have awaken and my life is anew. You see, having their cake and eating it too just won't do. Like in Mr. Baisden's books, It's about being accoutable for your own actions, because men will only do what we allow them to and the other woman (or girl) could care less about you because she feels she reigns supreme since she's sleeping with your man. That just goes to show you how much respect some women have for themselves and other sistas. His book Never Satisfied should open many eyes and wake up the naive and lazy. Just having a man in your life isn't o.k., especially if the relationship isn't productive and conducive to both person's goals in life. Men will be unhappy, so what. They should stand up and stop being boys and get over it. There was not one phone call into the radio station last week from one male. I guess the book(s) and comments ticked them off. By the way your book is on our best book list and stand in a Downtown Bookstore. Michael keep up the good work and know that people talked negatively about Jesus so you know they'll talk about you too. Stay Positive!!! Robin S.
Rating: Summary: Realistic, truthful, sensitive Review: The Book was excellent in the sense that I could identify with the characters written about. It was honest and realistic in respects to male/female interactions at every social and economic level. I especially appreciated the reading because finally something was placed in black/white about the drama males/females drag one another through.
Rating: Summary: A Review: This book is not for the faint of heart, the tried and true feminists or the "Sista Souljah's" of the world. I thought Baisden's characters represented a realistic cross section of African American society. Upper, middle and lower class were intermingled in the story line successfully. Sorry my sister's, but many of us are single not because we cannot find a good man, but because the good men don't consider some of US good catches... tell the truth- you know there are a lot of hoochie - projects- got 3 kids but have never been married - no savings account sisters out there. That being the case, this book simply chronicles the life of a few seemingly good men who make poor relationship decisions. Everyone of us has known at least one woman who has had or tried to have a man's baby to trap him into a commitment or a young gold digger or a clueless, want to be down with the struggle white woman. If the tables were turned, ( i.e. "Waiting To Exhale") black women would be singing, no - screaming it's praises but because it is about positive black men who choose a few trifling women, we want to crucify the author. Lighten up! Simply said, if you have your self together - then you will probably enjoy this book. If however, you are one of the aforementioned women- this book may sting a bit; but you know what they say- no pain, no gain.
Rating: Summary: I enjoyed it! Review: I just finished reading this book a few weeks ago as part of my book club reading and I enjoyed every page of it. I enjoyed it so much I gave the book to a coworker and she is finishing it up now. I think the book tells a lot of 'truths' about what goes on in a relationship. Although the author wrote this book as fiction, there are many things that people out there can relate to. I thought it was a good read and a fun read. I couldn't put it down until I finished it. I am glad we added to our list of books to read for this year and I hope Michael continues writing more. I had a chance to hear him on the local radio station here in DC last week and I must say, Derrick (the character from the book) seems a lot like Michael. Anyway, if you can pick it up and give it a read, you'll be glad you did.
Rating: Summary: Thanks for showing a brother love Review: First of all, let me say, thank you, to the men as well as the women who have supported me on this book. Many people responded very negatively about this book, saying it degraded black women, which is ridiculous. But I challenge anyone to show me a book where black women were portrayed more positively, beautifully, intelligently, and independently, then in this book. Also, I want to thank the many urban radio stations across the country for there support, without there help, I could never have reached the thousands of you who came out to my seminars. Lastly, I want to serve notice to all the haters out there that this is only the beginning, My relationshiop video, Love, Lust, and Lies is now available online through amazon.com, and my new book, The Maintenance Man, will be released next Fall. I will be posting the Synopsis on my web site next spring. Thanks again for listening to the male's perspective. Hopefully, I have encouraged other men to write and tell there side of the story. Unitl next time, Peace!
Rating: Summary: Represents the author's misguided view of men and women Review: Unfortunately, I couldn't find the energy, the interest, the desire or the time to finish this book. I got about halfway through it and threw it at the wall in my home office as hard as I could. My husband, who is accustomed to this habit of mine, picked it up and tossed it in the trash can for me. Earned him a kiss. Don't waste your time with this book or the silly, unrealistic characters it features. I couldn't care less what happens to any of them. At first I couldn't help but think that the person who wrote it must be as confused as his male characters. Then I met him and he confirmed that by trying to come off as a relationship expert 'cause he self-published two books, I guess. Why y'all trippin' on the publisher for the poor grammar and proofreading? Correct me if I'm wrong, but the book was self-published, right? Whatever. Who cares? Then wait, Michael Baisden put on some flaky writers workshop and didn't even bring materials to hand out. What was that? He never even got around to the writing part of the show because that's all it was. A big front to sell his sorry ass book. Wasted my money, the time I spent struggling to finish it and pissed me off. Two trifling books (one fiction and one nonfiction) does not a relationship expert make. To top it all off, he says none of his relationships have worked. What the hell does he know then!?? And why were sisters sitting there hanging on his every word and drooling over him like he's all that? He's not. Get a life and don't bother with this book.
Rating: Summary: GOOD BUT DEGRADING TO MANY GOOD WOMEN Review: I must say that I enjoyed the book and the characters in the book. The black men in the book were portrayed as educated, professional, and intelligent. That is a rarely seen in many black novels, as if it does not really exist. I was however insulted at the character's attitude toward any or every black woman who had anything less than a Bachelor's Degree. I am a 26 year old black female who works 10 hour nights and (occassionally days), attend college full-time in the day, OWN my own car, renting a nice apartment with my OWN paid for furniture, and I do not have any children. I entered college at the age of 24 and I am my only means of support. Although there were a couple of professional women in the book such as Angela and Traci, the book really came down hard on the less educated character Nikki. I thought that Ben's opinions were very unfair towards Nikki after things blew up in his face. I agree that Nikki was "trashy" so to speak , but I don't think that had anything to do with her educational background. I feel that Nikki's ways may have been due to her upbringing and poor family background. I don't want to give away the book to those who have not read it, but Nikki had a job that required schooling and a license to enable her to work at her place of business. Although she was a single parent, she was attending college to broaden her horizons. Ben stated that he should have known that things was'nt going to work because she was uneducated and that she was broke, and from then on he was not dating a woman unless she have a Bachelors Degree and $1,000 in the bank. I know women with Masters Degrees who do not have $1,000 in the bank, one who stays in worse financial condition than me! I also took offense to Mark's observation of black women's attitude when they saw him with his apron on cleaning at work vs. their attitude when they found out that he owned the shopping center. I won't argue with him about how they reacted. I'm sure that it happened the way that he described it, but let me ask one question. Would you Mr. Baisden or Mark for that matter, stop to take interest in a woman who was cleaning the store and wearing an apron? I THINK NOT! I'm not hating, it's your choice. All I'm saying is that what is good for the goose is good for the gander! The book made it seem that black women are the only ones that seek higher education and financial status in a mate and that is not true. Black men do too! Mark and Derrick both shared the same view on not being able to find their perfect mate. Most of the women they met where "UNEDUCATED" or "BROKE AS HELL!" as they put it. I attended the book signing held in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and I really enjoyed it. I had a chance to voice my opinions on many issues. All I have to say to Mr. Baisden is that overall I enjoy your writing but in the future you should watch what you say and how you say it. I don't know many or any men who own or have read your books, but I do know a lot of "UNEDUCATED", "BROKE AS HELL" women who do!
