Summary: One redeemable quality -- men's friendships and love.
Review: I read this book as an entry from my book club. I belong to "Open Gates", a book club that just celebrated it's 10th year anniversary. We meet at the Cumberland County Public Library in Fayetteville, N.C. "Men Cry.." was our selection for the month of March, 1999. I do not wish to be overly critical; I applaud the brother for expressing a point of view that may not often get expressed. However, I did think most of the characters were trivial, with facades of success, without much substance. However, I did read it. Other members of our group had very strong, negative reactions. I suppose it was a natural sequel to "Never Satisfied", which I also read. Since I have little time to read, I would rather, however, spend my time reading books that have more substance. I'm sure there is an audience for Mr. Baisden's work, and I wish him every success.

Summary: Extremely entertaining and almost as good as Calgon!
Review: I enjoyed the book so much that I've read it more than once. I've recommended it to numerous friends who've given it 2 thumbs up. I've also read Never Satisfied and watched the relationship video, both of which were entertaining, humorous, and right on point. I cannot wait to read the Maintenance Man as Mr. Baisden seems to have his finger and his pen on the pulse of what is happening today with men, women and relationships. I highly recommend Mr. Baisden's books and tape to anyone who's interested in getting a realistic up-front opinion on why men and women are failing to have honest, trusting relationships. I look forward to seeing the next relationship seminar. Keep up the good work Michael. Without a doubt, I am your number one fan.

Summary: It took me three days to readthis book
Review: It took me three days because it was a very interresting piece of material. I couldnt put it down because of its interesting qualities.I really enjoyed it. I hope there's a movie coming out soon. I already know who would be good for the parts. I was also kinda hoping I could get a part in it,because I enjoyed it so much. I could be any of the sisters in the book except for Valerie I am too cute for that part. Check me out. I'll be checking out some more books.

Summary: I likes the book But...
Review: The only problem I have with the book is that there are a lot of opening. I hope this means that he is making sequel to the book. I would definitely read another book buy him. I would love to know what happen to the characters in this book through. This is a definite must buy.

Summary: Two stars for effort
Review: Sorry I bought the book in hardcover. I wish I had just checked it out of the library. While the author's efforts at presenting the male side were good the book itself wasn't. The changes in point of view were confusing and his lack of research made the book far less credible. The author should consult others if he is not sure. No one does a roundhouse kick to the groin. That is not possible. Additionally people don't go to undergrad and major in law (it is pre-law) and then decide not to go to grad school to get their law degree. Law is a professional degree. Also, Angela's credibility was shot when she told Michael, I mean Derrick, that she bought this outfit for him. Everything else she did contradicted that. Not to mention the book was full of typos, unnecessary changes in point of view, grammatical errors, and misinformation. Mr. Baisden should take a creative writing course before he writes another novel and hire an editor before he prints more copies of this book.

Summary: GREAT READING. THERE ARE REAL BROTHERS OUT HERE!!!
Review: The title was a little misleading and probably turned off a few brothers, before they had a chance to read it. The book was very well written and very descriptive of the characters. If I didn't already have a gorgeous women, and Angela was based on a non-fictional person, I'd have to look her up (just kidding). I can truly relate to a lot of the characters and the circumstances they find themselves in. A lot of my boys who I've lost contact with over the years, I will attempt to touch base with again. Having a good women by your side is one thing, but staying close with your boys is another. We need both.

Summary: Superficial
Review: The members of my book club selected this book in my absence. It was only available in hardback at my bookstore. What a waste of money! I was not enamored with Waiting to Exhale, therefore, this male version was not my idea of a thoughtful, complex read. Yes, it was entertaining but shallow. The characters were engrossed ad nauseum with materialism (luxury cars, fancy clothes, supposedly fine wines and chic restaurants--white zinfandel and Bennigan's--give me a break!)as well as their physical endowments. Emphasis upon these superficial aspects overshadowed the central themes of the story and as a result the characters were one-dimensional. In a word, the author's efforts are sophomoric.

Summary: let a brother be counted
Review: I just happpen to be a 35 yr old brother who grew up and still lives in CHicago. I really enjoyed the book and I really enjoyed the Chicago references. I have emailed the author and I received a response and it just reaffirms my notions about this man. The book lets women in the inside of a smooth mans lifestyle. I really identify with the main character, because I too had a wonderful woman and I lost her because of my ego and my trying to be a "playa". Im not with her now and it almost seems as if Michael wrote that part of the story about me. I enjoyed the book and some parts I may have rewritten myself, but on the whole, the book was very good. Ijust want to keep supporting black male authors and I hope you do to.

Summary: The book was awesome.
Review: I really enjoyed reading this book. It allowed me to see how and why men act the way that they do at times. It was also very interesting because I am from Chicago and a lot of the places he mentioned I knew where they were. It held my attention from beginning to end. I read the book in three days. I did not want it to end.
