Rating: Summary: Disappointment Review: I went to five different Barnes and Noble's to acquire this book, and when I was unable to acquire it right away I thought it really has to be hot. This book was selected by my book club. I was totally disppointed in reading Men Cry In the Dark, I felt that the characters in the books was to materialistic. It was easy reading but not at all what I expected. I would not recommend this book to another club.
Rating: Summary: men cry in the dark Review: It is refreshing to read about brothers trying to live their lives in a resposible and positive way. I am proud to say all the men in this book remind me of my male friends, I will be sending each of them a copy of your book. Thank you.
Rating: Summary: Men Cry In the Dark Review: To all the single men out there this is a must read. And for all the single women out there this is also a must read. Micheal Baisden breaks it down for you and he lets you know what it is all about. We as females tend to think that all that is important in life is being with someone. But if we dont know who we are how can expect anyone else to? Baisden lets you see both sides of the spectrum. He has a very good grasp on the female perspective of things. This book is a buy for mothers with sons, females with brothers, and men with friends. Though most men dont want to cry in the light we all know that they do "cry in the dark". Go get this book.
Rating: Summary: My two cents. Review: Even though I respect Mr. Baisden's efforts and I enjoy stories that depict the lives of African-Americans, I was disappointed with Men Cry In the Dark. I expected a book that would give insight on the thoughts and inner workings of the male mind. Instead, it was a book of examples of the stupid things shallow men do.The editing of the book was poor at best. I just want to let the editors know that the phrase is "Happy New Year" not "Happy New Year's". That was only one frustrating example of poor sentence structure and incorrect spellings that plagued this book. I also thought that the characters were not well developed and the book was not a realistic depiction of affluent African Americans. As a matter of fact, the author writes as if he has never spent any real time with any affluent African-Americans. For example, The author described Angela and Tracie as highly educated classy women, but much of their dialogue and actions reminded me of women with very little culture or etiquette. Angela announcing to Derrick that she had to go "pee" or "she would burst", did not sound all that sophisticated to me. I also did not enjoy the arrogance of the author. I could be wrong, but I believe he is actually the character Derrick, especially since his picture is on the front and back cover. Mr. Baisden do you think you are that pretty? To its credit, the book has generated many interesting discussions among my family and friends, and stimulating thought and discussion is a wonderful accomplishment for any author.
Rating: Summary: INTRIGING/FACINATING Review: The book was well written and a much needed book from an African American male. I couldn't put it down. For those of you who suggest that its negative, its just a book, not a true story, the book is for joy and excitement. People need to stop taking everything so seriously and just enjoy the book for what it is "A NOVEL".
Rating: Summary: It kept me on the Edge Review: This book was grrreat! I loved the way that Tracie supported her man Tony, with that crazy Valerie. That was a good example for the women today to learn how to stick by your man, a good man. I loved the respect that Derrick's father recived from them, and I'm glad they listend. I was amazed. Men today needs a father figure in their life. As I was reading I thought that Tony or Ben were going to be hurt, I was so scared for them that I had to put the book down and take a deep breath. I was so into it that I though this was real. Michael you did it again keep up the good work. Next is the "Maintence Man," I don't care what anyone says about your writing I am going to purchase your books and read for myself. GOD BLESS YOU! PS You are helping us ladies out tremedously. Thanks.
Rating: Summary: An awesome piece of work! Review: For a person who is a slow reader, I read this book in 2 days. It made me laugh from beginning to end. A book about friendship, love and respect. This writer is going places!
Rating: Summary: IT WAS OK Review: Although I felt the ending is kind of plain, the book is not as bad as the reveiws. Unlike Waiting To Exhale, I felt no sympathy for these men. The only character that I felt evolved is Benjamin. I feel that I have gained a little knowledge about "affluent" Black men. The book is not a page turner for me and I do not feel all men act the same way the idiotic characters are in this book.I know people with more money then these guys and none of them act like these characters.I hope the author figures out its not about how much money you have in the bank, its about how much love you have in your heart. If you are looking for a quick read without too much thought this may be the book for you but ladies, make sure you have $1000 in the bank and single with no children or you might get offended.
Rating: Summary: WOW! Review: I could not put it down. It is great to read from a brother's point of view! . Mr. Baisden's characters have such depth that you feel like you know them personally. Looking forward to the next one by this most talented author!
Rating: Summary: Remember this is a man's side of the story! Review: I read this book because the reviews were one extreme or another, you either loved it or hated it. Well I loved it, and wondered what's to be offended about. We all know that these characters do exist. I thought the balance of women was there. There are women out there like Angela, Traci and Christie, just as there are women like Nikki and Valerie. We can dish it we should be able to take it. I thought the story was good and funny at times. I thought I would fall off my chair when Derrick faked being asleep when Angela left THAT FIRST MORNING AFTER. Keep it coming Michael!
