Rating: Summary: another excellant story and plot Review: another one that I read in 2 days. I was captivated by rowan and juras relationship. the ending left me hanging but overall it was really good.
Rating: Summary: Not Jude Deveraux's best Review: For an author who puts out some of the best romance books, this was a real disappointment....it was very slow, boring
Rating: Summary: As flat as water? Review: I find Jude Deveraux very particular. sometimes she writes interesting books such as 'the duchess' and then there is 'the maiden', which, i think is a thoroughly awful title for this book.yes, the hero is handsome, and obviously the heroine is pretty. they're both strong mentally and physically. but immediately you can see the flaw. they're attracted to each other because he reached for her ankle and caressed her calfs? i didnt get that one. and of course, immediately they fell for each other after a kiss (which ended up the heroine hitting the hero senseless because he was, shall we say, in blinding heat of love). i swear, if i fell in love with every guy who kissed me then i would have kicked j.lo off her record of number of guys i married. then there's the stupid quarrels, and the 'taking of the maiden' in the woods. that was so mean. i blinked after reading that part. i mean, was that it? her first time? wasn't that rape? i would've rather jumped down a cliff than be her. i dont see rowan being in love with her. more like being in lust. and the entire book is, of course, filled to the brim with sex. go for this book if you like lotsa shallow sex. no love, just a lot of horizontal jogging.
Rating: Summary: Give me a break!! Review: I found this book to be lacking in many areas. Jura was the most annoying character I have ever read about, you just want to grab her by the shoulders and shake her. Rowan however, seemed to be a believable character, you kind of had to feel sorry for him having to put up with Jura. This book would be good for someone that was into fantasy, but all you romance readers I would recommend you check out her other books.
Rating: Summary: Bad. Really Bad Review: I have enjoyed other books by Jude Deveraux, but this one isn't one of them! The main characters were all over the place. The second it looked like they were going to actually develop a relationship they got themselves into another mess. Most of the time, the pair didn't even LIKE each other. They didn't understand each other, and while that is usually the case in marriages for convenience and similar plot lines, there is a large difference between those books and The Maiden. Just about every other story gives the couple time to grow and develop. Rowan and Jura don't have a moment (besides those 2 days) to really get to know each other and find out if they really like the person they married. It was absurd how many times the character's would say,"You're going to cause a war." They attempted to prevent war more times than they argued! Also, the role reversals in the couple was a little odd. Rowan seemed to always get into trouble and Jura had to bail him out. I like strong heroines but the scene where Rowan was alone in the woods by Keon was too much, IMO. If you don't like heroes to cry... this isn't the book for you! It was so difficult to like Jura because she was the most annoying female I have ever read about. I agree with the others, I would have loved to hit her a couple of times. The motivation of the characters is never clear. One minute they take action due to one reason, the next time they do something completely from left field. I was truly disappointed in this book. So disappointed that I am HAPPILY shipping this book overseas to a friend who is a big JD fan, but has never read The Maiden. I have already forewarned her but I am just glad to get this awful book out of my hands!

Rating: Summary: Awful! Review: I have read several Jude Deveraux books, and I can say that this is not only the worst Deveraux book I have ever read, but pretty much the worst book I have *ever* read. The writing is stilted and unnatural; the story contains none of the sass and romance that Deveraux's books usually do. Stick with the "Highland" series -- "Highland Velvet," "Highland Song," etc, and don't bother to pick this one up. It is so unlike any other Deveraux I have read that I cannot believe she wrote it -- and the copyright of "Deveraux, Inc." only helps confirm those fears.
Rating: Summary: Give me a break!! Review: I loved this book, I really did. I was skeptical at first because it takes quite a few chapters for romance to set in, as opposed to all the warring tribe stuff. But once it did kick in, it was like I was right there in the story with Jura and Rowan. I loved their strength, both mentally and physically, and the deep love they both slowly realize they have for one another. And Rowan is so hot!

Rating: Summary: Could be better Review: I only just started reading Jude's books and so far, I like them. I liked most of the characters except Jura. At some points in the book, I just wanted to slap her. Her personality could be much better.
