Rating: Summary: Satisfy My Soul Review: All my senses including my concepts of surrealism, sweet surrender, and subconciousness were awakened through his use of dream inspired metaphors and imagery. Colin Channer has the ability to make me remember why I love words, literature and the images that they emote. I, especially loved the character of Frances Carey because she embodies the quintessential black woman and her struggles to embrace the totality of herself, the black man, her history, her strenghts, her vulnerabilities and her future. I would love to read Colin Channer's next novel. Of course, I would love to suggest that it can be devoted to the historical love story of the two main characters ( I have not read any love stories before the slavery era between black characters). Another suggestion, I would be more than inspired to read would be the future reconciliation of the two lead characters finally connected.
Rating: Summary: Channer, Colin - Satisfied my soul Review: A thought provoking philosophy discourse and red hot erotica... a book for both sides of your brain. Channer is clearly a serious writer with a long and successful career ahead of him. An excellent novel and I look forward to future works.
Rating: Summary: #1 ON THE JAMAICAN BESTSELLERS LIST Review: Once again, Channer has broken all local sales records. More copies of SATISFY MY SOUL has been sold in Jamaica than any other hardcover fiction by any other novelist ... we are including Danielle Steele and John Grisham here folks! The popularity of SATISFY speaks for far more than anything I as an individual could say here as the sales are testament to his touching the Jamaican psyche. In my WAITING IN VAIN Review, I wrote that Channer has just begun his journey...well now Channer has taken another step and is definitely on his way. He tackles the most complex topics, once again proving that he is far more than a romance writer. Does he have further to go? A definitive, yes. I will enjoy seeing Channer's writing further develop and am excited to see him attain all that is his due. My dis"satisfaction" with SATISFY is that I'm wishing I could have heard more of Kwabena's story...I still have alot of questions about this character and it is he more than any other character that intrigues me. I hope he will reappear in another book or short story (Faulkner often did this - hint - hint), and that the Kwabena-Frances story (both versions)can be told. Anyway Channer, hope you're reading this ... don't wait too long to give us another hit...your fans are waiting!
Rating: Summary: satisfy my rhatid! Review: Channer has again wasted my time with another of his over-written, over-eroticized sorry excuses of fiction. He falls into that same bad habit (which he did in his first book 'Waiting in Vain) of name-dropping. It's as if the author is trying to prove to you how much he's read and how good he is -- and any intelligent reader should reel back at his failed cleverness and say "No, Mr. Channer! No you aren't that good." Not yet at least.
Rating: Summary: Satisy's My Carribbean-American Flavor Review: I randomly selected Colin Channer's book "Satisy My Soul" from the library, not sure what to expect. Being a reader generally selecting books from historical authors, I tend to shy away from newer writers until they are seasoned or recommended to me by a critic I respect. I was pleasantly surprised at the flavor of Channer's novel. It contained a lot of the ingredients I search for in a writer. A good book should take you someplace, make you feel as if you are sitting in front of a warm fire if it is cold. I expect certain things from male authors and different things from female writers. I never expect a man to be able to "write" for a woman and vice versa. I get annoyed when either gender attempts to do this and fails. Channer took on this challenge and mastered it beautifully in "Satisfy", he spoke as a women, for a women and retained the masculinity of the novel valid and true. I felt his hands on me, the sensuality of the novel was authentic and not copied and pasted from some place one might not be able to quite put their finger on... Channer's style for me was reminiscent of Carson McCullen (deep southern heat), or Tennessee Williams (intricate personalities - honest-true), Zora Hurston (a storyteller who can capture the heart of lovers). It is a blessing to have his exposure to Jamaica and the USA, for those unexposed, he can educate and entertain at the same time. I hope he stays this way - true to his style, going forward he will not miss if he does. Marcia
Rating: Summary: TOTALLY SATISFIED Review: THIS WAS A REALLY GOOD BOOK I COULD NOT PUT THE BOOK DOWN. THE CHARACTERS WERE VERY RICH AND EXCITING. THE CONNECTION BETWEEN SPIRITUALITY AND SEXUALITY WERE DEFINED WONDERFULLY. SPIRITUALLY THE BOOK TOUCHED ON SOME INTERESTING POINTS. PEOPLE SHOULD NOT LIMIT THEMSELVES TO THE THINGS THEY KNOW FOR CERTAIN. WE SHOULD EXPAND OUR MINDS AND EXPLORE OUR WORLD. I BELEIVE WE'LL BE IN FOR SOME WONDERFUL SURPRISES. THE BOOK WAS FICTION, BUT IT STILL MOTIVATED ME TO CONTINUE TO GROW POSITIVELY IN EVERY WAY.PEACE/RESPECT
Rating: Summary: Channer As Creator Review: His is not the real Genesis, but one I would like to visit. This is not escapist literature in the truest sense. . . more like religious allegory . . . so much to think about. . . so much to consider . . . The scene with Nazia the East Indian is a good example. The dark eyed siren leaves me stimulated and puzzled. I want to love her, or hate her, for uncovering my hero's weakness for a friend's wife, yet I can't. I can only see her as human, as I see every other character created in this Garden of Eden of a book by the master creator Colin Channer. I eat of your fruit of knowledge. For additional lyricism in words, I recommend to your spiritual diet Kwame Dawes, Andre Thornton, Sister Souljah.
Rating: Summary: "Not what I was waiting for" Review: Well, writing this review is difficult for me. I love Colin Channer, his writing style and use of the English language is extraordinary...I know I will always buy his books just to see how he has worded his thoughts. However this book was not what I was waiting for. The plot seemed under-developed and the book was rather confusing. I was really looking forward to the story line of Ghana in the book, but found it lacking in clarity and depth. I liked the characters because they were not the same people in "Waiting In Vain"...so many authors just rename the characters and rename the book, Colin did not do this. But I did not like or feel their story line rang as true in relation to the characters in "Waiting In Vain". No one can write a more erotic love scene than Mr. Channer, but this one was a little rough for my personal taste. I liked that Colin explored the differences in the characters spiritual beliefs... the Christian values to those from the "Motherland" and how they impact us as black people, it was a necessary part to get into the psyche of the characters, but it somehow was too much, maybe too much for a love story. Lastly the end just blew me away. People read for very many reasons, I for escape, this book left me feeling very heavy and sad. I wish I could say I loved this book, but I can say I love Colin Channer the author. Everyone has a time where others aren't feeling their vibe, unfortunately for me "Satisfy My Soul" was one of those times. However I look forward to his next book still. In my opinion this does not remove the fact that Colin Channer is an exceptional author.
Rating: Summary: Colin Channer does it again Review: After reading the seductive "Waiting In Vain", Colin Channer's "Satisfy My Soul" was definitely worth the wait. A definite tribute to tropical romance.
