Rating: Summary: GREAT book! Review: Judith Ivory has come up with a fun, sexy romp of a book! The storyline holds you from start to finish. Her characters are interesting and believable. I would recommend this book to anyone!
Rating: Summary: Very Interesting Review: It is definitely more interesting than "My Fair Lady". Edwina is far more passionate and intelligent than professor Higgins(how I hate him and I don't think he's worthy enough to have that lady's love). The characters really interact with each other, but I think the ending is kind of too convinient. I mean, what did the hero (mm, what's his name) really do to convince the old duke? Just one word "Poppy"?
Rating: Summary: The Proposition Review: This is a great Judith Ivory. I couldn't wait to read it. I have read the other 2 and thought them unique and special. "The Proposition" is a take on "My Fair Lady". However, the characters are more interesting in this version. It is a fast paced read with high marks for creativity. For the seasoned romance reader this book offers new ideas, new places and new people. Judith Ivory writes a tidy plot line that makes sense and takes you to unexpected ends. Enjoy.
Rating: Summary: Judith Ivory's Best Yet! Review: Judith Ivory's newest is both fun and literate; it's well written, with engaging characters and fun dialogue. The major weakness is the predictability of the plot.
Rating: Summary: One of the best you'll read Review: This is a re-telling of My Fair Lady, only in this book Professor Higgins becomes Edwina Bollash, an intelligent, shy linguist who's very down on herself, as family has taught her to be. Eliza Doolittle takes the form of Mick Tremore, a charming rogue who makes a living out of catching rats. They take the job of turning Mick into a Viscount in six weeks on a bet between 2 odd gentlemen. This book is special. The relationship that develops between the h/h is so tender, yet so passionate, that I was moving back and forth between my heart breaking for the two of them, and my heart racing with anticipation. Mick is an honest, genuine person, the like of which you don't normally see in a romance. I absolutely loved him. Do yourself a favor a buy this book. There are a lot of books on Amazon with 5 stars. This one genuinely deserves every one of them.
Rating: Summary: Don't Miss this one! Review: This is a terrific book with one of the best romantic heroes any of us have seen in years! It's funny and touching and very sexy. Once you start you won't want to put it down. Miss this one at your own peril!
Rating: Summary: Judith Ivory keps getting better and better Review: Mick Tremore is an extraordinary gifted mouse catcher. Besides being inhumanly handsome that hooks all the females, Mick is quite good at ridding rodents from the homes of the aristocracy. However, his tongue leaves no question that he has some rural blood as he uses a mix of Cornish with Cockney when he speaks. Still, the ladies do not pursue Mick for his words of wisdom. Lady Edwina Bollash quietly enjoy her tea and scones in Abernathy and Friegh's tearoom when Mick is chased inside the facility. Edwina, a philologist, relishes Mick's butchering of the language. She asks him to allow her to study his speech when two other patrons, Jeremy and Emile Lamont challenge her to turn Mick into a gentleman within six weeks. Winnie, who has helped several ungainly females thrive, accepts the challenge. Her goal is to turn Mick into a viscount in time to attend her odious relative's ball. While staying at her home, his overall goodness and his kisses begin to shake Winnie's heart. THE PROPOSITION is a gender reversal of Pygmalion that works because the talented Judith Ivory provides her lead protagonists with identities that readers understand. Mick and Winnie make the novel succeed as they struggle with their growing attraction to one another that is forbidden in class conscious Regency England. The story line is filled with sexual tension softened by humor. The secondary cast provides the tidbits that anchor the audience in the early nineteenth century. Sub-genre fans will gain much pleasure from this entertaining tale that will send them looking for Ms. Ivory's previous novels (see SLEEPING BEAUTY and BEAST). Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: THE PROPOSITION is the Best of 1999 Review: I loved this book. It's a wonderful rendition of a timeless story--only with a fabulous twist. Judy Ivory is a magnificent storyteller. Her words pull the reader in and you just don't want the book to end.
Rating: Summary: Sensuous Charm, Luscious Wit Review: The Proposition is a total delight. I'm a fan of all Judith Ivory/Judy Cuevas' books. This is a clever, even daring twist on the Pygmalion myth, very funny, very moving, very sexy. The hero is utterly lovable, the heroine sympathetic. I generally prefer intensity to humor but this has both! If I have a quibble it's the story book ending in a book with more complexity, but she carries that off with verve nonetheless. The book is a treasure.
Rating: Summary: This Proposition Is Irresistible Review: I've been a Judith Ivory/Judy Cuevas fan for a long time, and I have to say "The Proposition" is one of her best. In a delightful variation on the "My Fair Lady" theme, Ivory gives us rat catcher as a hero. And, oh, what a lovable rat catcher he is! Mick enjoys life to the fullest. He's proud to be a working man. He and his collection of dogs and ferrets are hell-on-wheels at rat-catching, much to the delight of those in need of their services. From the first raucous scene, there's side-splitting humor, heart-mending sweetness, heart-pounding sensuality. The chemistry between Mick and Winnie--the tutor charged with turning him into a "gentleman"--is delicious, and the way Ivory handles the linguistics aspect of the story is masterful. It's a fabulous feel-good story--perfect for holiday reading!
