Review: At first, reading this novel was fun, like watching adventure serials. There were sword fights, wild escapes, corny villains -- it was fun.

Then, an evil, homicidal nun tried to rape the heroine. Hmmm. For some reason, the book lost me when that happened. Other violent acts added to the "Ick Factor" quotient.

Also, the hero and heroine don't meet until about two-thirds of the way through the story. And Salvador, who has been true hero material throughout the book, suddenly becomes a jealous, distrustful misogynist. Was it something in the water?

Summary: I didn't like it that much.
Review: I adore Brandewyne's books and I especially enjoyed No Gentle Love and Jacarada Tree. This book however doesn't seem to start till your halfway. The couple don't exactly meet at once and their love story in my opinion was awfully short. Don't get me wrong, I cried at several parts and thoroughly enjoyed the last halfway of the book but I feel as if Brandewyne wasted a great deal of pages talking about the not-so-important stuff.

Summary: a mixed bag, but worth the read
Review: Some of the elements of the story were wonderful: the lost splendor of the jungle mansion, the mystical love story, death by sword, army ants attacking, and the hero, Salvador, who is so incredibly endearing, despite his Latin jealousy. Plus, you get to revisit Wolf and Storm of "Love, Cherish Me." I have never heard of a writer doing that in a non-serial work. There are some disturbing events that are nauseatingly awful, but the world isn't rosy. It is a memorable read, and I really love the cover of the first edition the best. Why they changed it, I don't know-- I hope to find another copy of it someday.
