Rating: Summary: an author most worthy Review: A man most worthy is Marcus Major's 3rd novel. This book features new characters that I have no doubt we can all related to.( an old favorite that we've been missing :)) The main characters of the book are John Sebastian, a wealthy, 30 something male who has everything except a love he can't forget. The other unforgettable character is Josephine Prescott, who is in a marriage that she is not so sure about. The book is very well written. The story line is excellent. Marcus knows how to get and keep your attention from the first page to the very last. No other author I think can compare to his style and imagination. This book is funny, it is full of drama, the characters are complexed and REAL. You will find yourself laughing out loud. it's incredible how a male author can write about and understand the women psyche so well! Amazing! This book is for "GROWN FOLKS" however. It tends to be very sexually graphic. The only bad thing is now we are going to have to wait another year or so for another one of Marcus' gems. Because this book is so funny, extremely REAL, with characters that we can relate to, for believing in and writting about the true essence of love, Marcus Major is definitely AN AUTHOR MOST WORTHY! Ebony pageturners
Rating: Summary: A book most worthy of your precious reading time Review: After reading his short story in I knew I would want to read his other books. He has this way of interweaving humor in his stories. Man Most Worthy is the first full length book I've read by Mr. Major's and I was not disappointed.
John Sebastian vowed to make sure he would never have to struggle after growing up in poverty in Newark, New Jersey. He is a successful business man and even though he has everything he could want materially, and he has a beautiful younger girlfriend named Scent, he realizes he is missing something. What he is missing is the one woman he really loved, but let go many years ago. That woman would be Josephine Flowers Prescott. Josephine is a Vice Principal of a school and married to Darrien Prescott. Darrien is the superintendent of a rich school district, and he is very concerned with image. So concerned he is always thinking about what his peers will think about Josephine working in such a poor school district. He feels that Josephine should get a job in his district. He is also always bothering Josephine about her being slightly overweight. Josephine is eager to have a baby, but her husband keeps putting if off. When John finds out how quickly Josephine moved on after their break up he wonders if she is truly happy, and seeks to find out. John Sebastian is used to getting what he wants, and he will not take no for an answer in his pursuit of Josephine. He wants to correct the wrongs of the past, and earn Josephine's trust, friendship and most importantly her love.
This book is a must read. The love scenes in this book are super hot, and he has some really positive male role models in this book. Mr. Duke is one of those positive male role models. This book I felt was not predictable, and there are some great pot twists in this book that will really surprise you. First question you will have is "Well she is married, so how on earth will John get this woman back? She has moved on, there is no way she will look back. Or will she?" Read the book to find out!!! You will not be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: A Man Most Worthy..is definitely a Most Worthy Read! Review: All I can say is this book is such a refreshing, pleasurable, entertaining, and most adventurous read. All of the characters from the irresistible John, gorgeous Jules, dynamic Gloria, sophicated Josephine and the wise Mr. Duke made you want to just reach out and grab them!!! Mr. Major's writing is down to earth, comical, thought-provoking, and sometimes make you wanna holler all at the same time. This book is a serious page turner that requires you to read the book from start to finish all in one sitting. I read the book in one day. There is always something going on! The relationship shared between Jules, John and Mr. Duke is so special and it makes you feel as if you wish all of our young Black men had a Mr. Duke in their lives. Mr. Major you deserve 10 stars for this one! I would love to see a sequel focusing on Jules and Gloria's story. I have always enjoyed your writing but I must say I think that this is one of your best works!! I am heading back to the bookstore to purchase A Family Affair. I was delighted to have my hometown of Plainfield mentioned in your book. I love Plainfield as well as Newark, NJ! You are the best!!! May God bless you to continue to write such real to life stories with such lovable characters!
Rating: Summary: first - time read Review: Good book. Easy to relate to characters and develop quick like and dislike of them. Not one dimensional - great character flaws.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Love Story Review: Great Love story. I listened to this book on tape, and was very impressed. This is the first book by Marcus Major that I have experience, and I am ready to read more. I was so impressed with this book, I could imagine this happening to me!
Rating: Summary: Can't get past the raunchy language Review: I have read Mr. Major's work before (Good People's; Got to be real anthology). And in the other works I was able to get past some of the language. However, with A Man Most Worthy, I am really having a hard time getting through. I keep getting hit with the "D" word and the "P" word throughout the book (at times I am reminded of a high-schooler throwing these words around because he thinks its cool). It seems as though every page has some sort of profanity on it. I think a book about Black Love and Black folks loving each other without cheapening it with these terms might be a little more refreshing. It is unfortunate because he really does make me want to find out what happens with the characters, but I am so offended by the EXESSIVE use of profane words and descriptions that add absolutely nothing to the story. Don't get me wrong, I did not expect there to be no profanity, but too much is too much! I really like Mr. Major's stories, but if you have a sensitivity to exessive raunchy language, steer clear of this one.

Rating: Summary: Major is definitely worthy! Review: If I had to pick one word to describe Marcus Major's new book, A Man Most Worthy, it would be WONDERFUL...in all caps!! Major has been a favorite of mine since he first entered the literary scene with Good Peoples and now, quite simply, I'm HOOKED; again...all caps! 36-year-old John Sebastian is a successful, well-known millionaire who has it all; including a beautiful young girlfriend. In spite of al this, he's missing out on true love. The one that got away seven years before is Josephine Prescott. She's the vice-principal of an elementary school in his old neighborhood, married, and a bit overweight and often overlooked by her husband. He's the superintendent of a rich school district, overbearing, and only concerned with himself and getting Josephine into his school district; mainly because he's concerned about what his peers think of her working in a poor neighborhood. Added to this ensemble of characters we have Jules, John's best friend and Mr. Duke, who took a large part in raising both men. Once John decides to start a new branch in his old hometown, Mr. Duke suggests that John give back to his community by mentoring some of the underprivileged students in his old neighborhood. Unbeknownst to John, Mr. Duke purposely selects Josephine's school as the beneficiary and a whirlwind of activities follow suit when Josephine comes face to face with John. I loved this book and Major's ability to so easily depict the thoughts of his characters, especially the female ones through some of the most emotional times of their lives. As Josephine goes through dealing with her past with John, the pains he inflicted on her, as well as her current weight gain and the new pain her husband doles out, I felt moved and linked to them. It felt as if I had personally shared her trials and tribulations with her, as if I were her best friend helping her get through them...just as I would one of my own girlfriends. Additionally, seeing John's desire to right the wrongs done so long ago and prove himself worthy were also a great addition to the story. Did I say I loved this book? I felt it and connected with the characters. As with his previous works, Major's writing style remains crisp, witty, emotional, insightful and thoroughly captivating! The subplots even had me drawn into the story as I cheered the characters on and took part in their everyday lives. This is a book that teaches a lesson of true friendship, forgiveness, and making the best out of the decisions we've made in our lives. To close...check this one out for yourself and determine just as I did that Major is just as worthy as his characters for all praise bestowed upon him for this novel. Simply WONDERFUL...all caps!
