Rating: Summary: An allegorical tale... Review: This short book reads like an allegory, as three people come together as "Adam", "Eve" and "Mentor", to discover the truths revealed in a book they read together, "Children of Grace". Throughout the story, the three become sensitized to their roles in life as Black-Americans who appreciate their heritage. Although brief, REDEMPTION SONG is a call to the future, including "A Recipe for Life", meant to enrich and encourage. I gave it three stars only because it is written so simply, but at the same time, I believe the author wants to reach as wide an audience as possible, her message one of healing and acceptance.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding--A Remarkable Work Review: I couldn't put Redemption Song down...I read it in one sitting and recommend it to everyone...especially those of African American descent. The story is centered around Josephine Chambers, a successful business executive and Ross Buchanan, a scholar pursuing his PhD in Anthropology. They "accidentally" meet at the Black Images Bookstore in search of the very rare book entitled Children of Grace. While in the store, both discover the book at the same time, which lead the wise proprietress, Ms. Cozy, to referee a joint reading session between the two. Over the next few days, the voice of their ancestor speaks to them and discloses timeless wisdom, acts of courage, love, selflessness, and hope onto the couple. I don't want to reveal too much, but I'd like to say the author weaves an inspiration and heart touching tale that includes a message, "The Recipe of Life", that we can all heed and embrace.I initially borrowed this book from the public library, but will procure a copy for my personal library. It is one I will present as gifts for my family and friends to perpetuate the message. It is now on my all-time favorites list. This was an outstanding piece of work...truly inspiring, motivational, uplifting. A must read!
Rating: Summary: Love Through the Ages Review: I have always been interested in literature that touches on my ancestors' beginnings in the USA. Ms. Berry has written a very moving story of a love that transcends the boundaries of time and remembrance. Her memorable characters, Ms. Cozy, Fina and Ross, will take you on a journey back through time, to slavery days and teach you that the power of love is stronger than chains, distance or the passage of years. Together they discover a connection that was foretold generations before any of them were ever born. This is a must read for all lovers of black history and eternal love. Bravo, Bertice!
Rating: Summary: A Must Read Review: The book was great. After reading it, I found myself thinking about what impact my life will have on future generations.
Rating: Summary: Simply Amazing Review: This book inspired me beyond anything I think I've ever read. How the author manages to weave in and out of the past while sending direct instructions to future readers is simply amazing. I am so overwhelmed by the story and the message. This book should be required reading for anybody wanting to know "where do I go from here?"
Rating: Summary: A very touching story of unwavering love and so much more Review: redemption song was a wonderful story about finding love at time when it was unimaginable, it's a story finding true love when you're not really looking for it and it's a story about finding the purpose in your life. I gave this story a rating of 4 instead of a 5 because I hated that it was over. redemption song was a fast read (I read it in 4 hours) but I learned a lot in those 4 hours. I was fascinated at all the revelations that were revealed to me. There is a saying that big things can come in small packages and that was true with this book. So if you haven't read this book before I suggest you find a little time to read it
Rating: Summary: thoughts of you Review: This books was sort of hard for me to get into. I'm not gonna down play it any, because it just wasn't the book for me at the time. Maybe I'll pick it up again later.
Rating: Summary: I Don't Like to Read~~But I Could NOT Put This Book Down!!!! Review: I have not read a book since high school & I'll be will attending my 20 year reunion this year, if THAT tells you anything. If it ain't the Bible, technical (I'm a computer programmer), full of jokes or how-to, I'm just not reading it. I've tried on several occasions to read books recommended by friends & family but none of them got & kept my attention. Redemption Song is a spectacular work of art. This book should be recommended reading for ALL African-American high school students. This book connects with our very soul as a people, allowing us to appreciate where we come from, thus giving us a greater vision of where we need to go. High5Bertice!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Could not put down Review: I had the pleasure of attending Dr. Berry's signing in Chicago recently. I was interested in her new book, The Haunting of Hip Hop but so many other readers marveled at how wonderful Redemption Song was that I just had to purchase it. And 24 hours after the signing I too knew just how wonderful the book is. Two strangers, drawn together in search of the same thing find out that their meeting is not accident nor coincidence, but destined by a connection that spanned generations. A must read.
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ Review: This is the best book (not including the Bible) that I've ever read. Keep up the good work girl!! God Bless.
