Rating: Summary: A tad obsessive, are we? Review: Oh, the love is sweet and fun and the sex is great, but Jane needs a serious therapy to get over her obsessive behaviour with her earl. I mean, how is she to lead a normal life if every thing that she has never done in her life is automatically a breach of good manners? She is so terribly proper she imagines herself in love with a man even though she suspects him of the most disgusting form of hedonism? At least she loosens the stays a little, figuratively speaking, towards the end of the book, otherwise there would have been no hope of recommending this book. However, it is a very enjoyable read with a cool cast of secondary characters, especially Ethan's mother.
Rating: Summary: diverting formula that misses Review: The super rogue comes to cropper when he meets prim spinster is not a new formula, but under a deft hand it can be a humorous tale. This one tries really hard, but the lead character Jane Mayhew, just is a little irritating. She is too much of a prig and she really begins to wear thin. Still is a nice read. Ethan Sinclair is wild man of the ton and he knows Jane Mayhew vaguely, but has never really noticed her. When Jane discovers his love child abandoned on her doorstep, she is determined to see the Rake live up to his duties. At first, Ethan is irritated Jane claims the baby is his. But circumstances push them together, and suddenly he sees in Jane many qualities to admire. It's nearly Smith's usual professional work, just misses. Still a nice rainy evening book.

Rating: Summary: I can't believe Ms. Smith wrote this.... Review: Yes, I guessed who the mother was about halfway through, but I had so much fun getting to the end of this book that I really didn't care. Intelligent heroines are always a delight to read about, and this one sparked fire against her hero. Interesting darker characters balanced the book very well without being the outrageous villains that I've run into so much lately. The plot kept me turning pages to see what was going to happen next, and the atmosphere was rich with history, silks and prim young women who dare to risk the unthinkable. And the dashing rogue of a hero wears spectacles when he writes! Wonderful dichotomies at work here.
