Summary: Extremely tedious and boring
Review: This was one of the worst romance books I have ever read. It was so hard to get through that I had to start skimming the book. There was very little romance in this story, even the love scenes--which to me includes not just sex, but kissing, touching, and intimacy both physical and non physical--between Graham and Submit are boring and tedious, nothing remotely erotic or sensual. There was no chemistry between Graham and Submit and they have only a few intimate moments together. The heroine was such an opinionated, snobbish, stuck-up little hypocrite that I found it difficult to believe that the hero would want to spend his whole life with her let alone five minutes. Moreover, the hero spends most of the book involved with someone else who is just as annoying as the heroine. Then when you get to the ending, it gets even worst--the actions of the heroine is so unbelievably stupid it is almost hilarious. This is the first time I have ever felt the need to post a review be it positive or negative about a book, but this romance was sooooo bad that I hope I can save one person from wasting her/his money and time on this book. But if you are still willing to give this book a try, I suggest you check it out of a library first. Furthermore, this is the LAST time I buy a book which is a rewrite of an author's earlier work. Those books never seem to be any good.

Summary: Left me wanting more
Review: This was the second Ivory book I read and was really expecting something more. I got lost in the details in this one and how the plot just drug and drug and drug along. I really wanted to like and feel for the characters, but nothing ever came along to make that happen.

Summary: I'd give it a ZERO if given a choice.
Review: Two words -- AWFUL and GOD-AWFUL This was no romance by even the greatest stretch of the imagination. I'd ask for a refund if I thought I could get it. The plot line was incoherent, haphazard and lacked substance. I never got a true sense of either main character or their motivations. If I had followed my instincts I would never have purchased this book. Enough said. I'll not make that mistake again.

Summary: It was great when Judy Cuevas wrote it, too!
Review: What a bummer, to wait for the next Judith Ivory book, order it, and find out it's the same book she wrote under her other name of Judy Cuevas. Why doesn't ... the Review indicate that? ...All her other books (under Judith Ivory) are wonderful, she's a great writer. Black Silk is not your ordinary Romance Novel but it's written well and it's unusual plot and characters make it a book to remember. Too bad I didn't remember it was issued before!

Summary: superb!!
Review: What a writer!! Black Silk captures the nuances in English life that other regency writers don't (probably because they've never been there.) Coming from England myself and a huge fan of the regency genre, I have always rolled my eyes when reading the 'latest and greatest' regency romance. And none have ever struck a chord like Judith Ivory has in this book.
The story tells of a widow; Submit, who is asked to deliver a package after her late husband dies. It is adressed to Graham Wessit, the earl of Netham; her husbands cousin, whom she has never seen nor met. However, the earl seems to recognise what is in the package and refuses to take it; seemingly taking more of an interest in Submit herself. As Graham finds himself more and more attracted to the aloof Submit, she finds that she has her own 'demons' to deal with.
I loved this book because its characters were 'real'; both of the subjects were totally flawed; and in Grahams case, he makes no apologies for it.
This book was excellent for me because it (almost accurately) gave a description of Cambridge University (which holds the best parties)and the stats on the state of the cricket (which Australia is winning at the moment). She has successfully, in my opinion, captured everything that is British in this novel.
WELL DONE!!

Summary: Exquisite!
Review: Wow, Judith Ivory does it again. Her flawed characters, rich plot, sensual tension, historical details and smooth writing style are exquisite.
