Rating: Summary: Law and Order Review: This book is a true example of how to successfully incorparate Christian ideals into a secular subject. Most Christian books on the market are love stories, which makes it very easy to put God into the setting. A courtroom, in the turn of the century, despite the "IN GOD WE TRUST" above the door, is a difficult setting to portray a Christan lawyer in, a woman at that. I very much recommend the book to anyone interested in the law, and even if you aren't. I commend this book's authors for writing such a down to earth realistic novel, with a real plotline and a worthwhile story.

Rating: Summary: Excellent, A must Read! Review: This book was super. Kit Shannon arrives in Los Angeles, eager to begin her law career. However, due to the time period, she encounters several obstacles before she can find a job practicing her profession. While assisting her employer with a murder trial, she keeps a deep faith in God which is refreshing, and helps keep the story vivid and real. I'd recommend this book to anybody who likes historical fiction with a good inspirational plot woven into the story!
Rating: Summary: Unique and captivating Review: This book was very unique and intriguing. It was set in the 1900's in the city of L.A. and contained a little bit of everything; murder, courtroom drama, romance, and happy endings. I love Tracie Peterson and this book was just as good as many of her others. This is the first book by James Scott Bell that I have read, and now I want to read more. I can't wait to read the next book!
Rating: Summary: Great Review: This is a mix of legal action and historical romance. I loved it! I can't wait to see more about Kit. She has captivated me. Also, the era of the early 1900's in Los Angeles is very interesting. The authors have created the place and time wonderfully.
Rating: Summary: Very Realistic Christian Romance Novel Review: Tracie Peterson, teamed with James Scott Bell, successfully renders an accurate historical portrayal of the divisions of class and race in Los Angeles at the dawn of the Twentieth century. The ugliness and ungodly strength of prejudice is clearly exposed and the one exposing it is a victim of prejudice herself, Kathleen "Kit" Shannon, one of the first women to step into the male arena of the Criminal Justice system. Kit is a lawyer, fulfilling what she believes to be her God-given mission in life; upholding righteousness and defending the innocent, without concern for obtaining wealth and fame. When a Mexican gardener, the brother of her dear friend Corazon, is falsely accused of a heinous crime, Kit, against all odds, gives her all to defend him. She is shunned by the aristocracy of the city because she refuses to bow to the demands of the socially elite and detach herself from the lower class citizens she defends. She is given no cooperation or protection by the police because she is resented for her forceful cross-examination during sessions in court and for questioning their methods of interrogation. Kit is hounded by her Aunt Freddie and her fiance', Dr. Jeffrey Kenton, to leave this brutal, un-ladylike path and step back into her "proper" role of a woman of sophisticated breeding. Unlike many Christian Romance novels that paint unrealistic views of life that always end with "...and they lived happily ever after", this book makes you hope for a happy ending but you are left wondering. Peterson's attempt to insure that you will read the next book in the series is to be commended. --- reviewed by Gin for Christian Bookshelf
Rating: Summary: Fallen Angel Review: Usually Bethany House books are gentle, mildly inspirational novels. Alas, Ms. Peterson and Mr. Bell decide to ruin a nice little costume murder mystery, on the lines of the Goldy Bear series, by injecting a great deal of illogical religious bigotry that actually interferes with the story. The flashbacks to evil nuns and similar nonsense are sheer bad writing. By the way, it is impossible to have a character whose real name is Kathleen Shannon. She might as well be called Kathleen Mississippi! Shannon is the name of a river, and related to a Celtic deity. It has never been a family name, though it has sometimes been taken as an alias. Nor can her father be Harry T. Shannon! Henry and its diminuative Harry are not and never have been popular in Ireland, due to the actions of Henry VII of England against the Irish.
