Summary: Do NOT read unless desperate!
Review: My first complaint with this book is that it was Boring and Dull. There was no life to it. The heroine just seemed to drift through life. She didn't stick up for what she believed just because it would have been unpleasant. There is almost no excitment, danger, adventure, Nothing fun at all. My second complaint is of the way she portrayed that portion of the south. Maybe I'm wrong, but most of the south, and most likely that area, was pretty devastated. They didn't just not have as much food as last year or have to make a few small sacrifices. My third complaint applies to many of her books-don't think I haven't read and like many of them. If you are going to have Christianity, don't have some go-to-church-but-really-have-no-personal-relationship-with-Jesus-and-pray-rarely-in-extreme-difficulty type of person. I'm a Chirstian and this book, and some of her others, make me mad and disappointed that she couldn't have real Christian hero/heroines in a Christian Fiction book. Don't waste your money on this pathetic "historical fiction" book. If you want to try Jane Peart's books read the Montclair series, especially Fortune's Bride and Destiny's Bride.
