Rating: Summary: A formula without excitement. Review: I did not like this book at all. It is a basic formula... landless knight marries wealthy heiress. Of course, relatively speaking, all romance novels are a formula to a degree. It is the twists on the plot that the author can offer and the creation of characters that are dear to the reader that makes the book different and one worth remembering. I found that I did not care about either Rose or Dominic. They were entirely too one-dimensional. The story did not build suspense and as stated, it is merely a simple formula. There is the obigatory spurned lover who stirs up trouble and the villian from which the hero must save the heroine, but again, it simply did not hold my interest. On the plus side, Ms. Mason does a good job of creating passionate and sexy love scenes, but overall, this was not enough to hold my interest.
Rating: Summary: An average read. Review: I have read a couple of books by Connie Mason, and usually I like most of her books, especially the older ones. This book was not very interesting, some of the love scenes were pretty good, but her trademark sensuality seems to be missing from her books now a days. I did not find anything remarkable about the novel.....though I finished reading it pretty fast.
Rating: Summary: An average read. Review: I wont write a long summary like most people did, but the book is somewhat of a Taming of the Shrew in a weird twist. I loved this book and it is what got me hooked on Connie Mason. Keep up the great work!
Rating: Summary: 3 and A Half Stars..... Review: Rose was strong and had a quick wit about her. Dominic did what was required of him and was very thoughtful when it came to the heroine. The love scenes between the two of them were pretty hot ? worth reading!!! I did feel that the story was rushed at times but all in all was a pretty decent read.
Rating: Summary: Worth the time Review: Several others have wrote storylines so I won't do it again but I liked this book. Some of the other reviewers have commented that it followed the same old formula, which it does. But that works for me. I like a happy ending and a story in which I don't come to hate the hero for being a jerk. All in all it was an enjoyable few hours reading!
Rating: Summary: Romantic Times Review Review: The Dragon Lord by Connie Mason England is in turmoil. The barons are in an uproar against King John. Dominic, the second son of the Baron of Pendragon (Dragon), is ordered by the king to go to the borders to take over a barony, Ayrdale, and to marry either the daughter or wife of the late earl, whom the king just had executed. There Dragon meets the Lady Nelda and her twin daughters, Rose and Starla. Starla's only wish is to enter a convent, so to protect her sister, Rose schemes to be the one chosen. The road to true love is full of misunderstandings, growing admiration and desire. Exploring the history of England, this romance flourishes like a garden to full bloom. Together the lovers build a rich life to share, trusting each other above all else. This is a real keeper, filled with historical fact, sizzling love scenes and wonderful characters. Just what Connie Mason fans expect. SENSUAL
Rating: Summary: Paint by number writing Review: This book was a competent story, no more. I don't know about other 'romance' readers, but I hate novels which start out with the hero swiving his lewd mistress. Even worse, he goes on to complain he hasn't had a wench for a whole week, and says to the heroine on their wedding night,"If I had had known virgins were like this I would have had one long ago." Talk about crass. He is like a barbarian. Rose is feisty and the only thing that redeems the book. Veronica the mistress is a pain, and Dominic too stupid in his dealings with her. But because he does not care about anyone'ss feelings but his own, he ignores the strife even though he wounds Rose badly in the process. The whole kidnap and rose trapped in her uncles castle was slapstick and silly. The endless background wittering about bad old King John and the Magna Carta was way too dull. When they couple finaly say they are in love with each other, well, most of us could not have cared less. Apart from some varied positions and word you would not use in front of your granny, this book was not in the least sexy. Where is the sensual detail, the smell, taste, feel of falling in love, not just putting up with each other because of proximity?
Rating: Summary: Excellent book - a must have Review: This is the first book I have ever read by Connie Mason, and after reading this novel, it certainly won't be the last! The storyline was certainly not boring. It kept you reading. Dominic is a sexy, gallant and arrogant man. Rose is a spitfire who learns temperance through her love for the "Dragon Lord". I loved the book and reccomend it to everyone who like historical romance.
Rating: Summary: SOMETHING ABOUT IT THAT'S NOT SO ROMANTIC Review: This is the first book that I tried to read by Connie Mason. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find the desire to finish this story.
The premise of the book sounds highly entertaining and highly romantic. But in my opinion, there's just something about the description of the male anatomy being described by the word C--O--C--K does not seem so romantic to me. Everytime the hero starts describing how he would like to "ram his engorged c--k into her wet center" well it just conjures up a picture of a rutting bull in my head.
I read quite a few romance books a day. There are some that are just soooo good that I can't put them down. Then there some books that I have to eventually force myself to read, this is definitely one of them.
Rating: Summary: Good but rushed... Review: This was a pretty good book and I rate it 3.5 stars. However I must admit, the plot was one that I had read before in another book -- a father (and landowner) is killed and a king sends his champion out to wed one of the surviving daughters to make sure that his kingdom holds onto the lands. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the story, which contained some twists and turns that made it differ slightly from the other book, and added interest. Suffice it to say, I enjoyed the plot. I also enjoyed the characters. The Dragon Lord was just as reluctant to marry as was the sister he wound up with and neither were shy about letting the other know this. Naturally, this set up the tension that would follow as the two found themselves forced together in matrimony. And if that weren't bad enough, one of Dragon's spurned lovers wasn't at all happy with the union and wasn't shy about letting him and his new bride know. The dialog was also refreshing. Rose was particularly blunt and asked questions that you would hope she'd ask rather than sit back and wonder what Dragon's thoughts were. I really appreciated that touch. And because Rose was forever getting herself into one scrape after another, there was a decent bit of action in the story as well, with the Dragon running to her rescue. If you like sensual books, this one almost hits the mark. This is where the book fell short in my ratings. The romance and the intimate scenes seemed a little rushed, as did parts of the story. I got the feeling that the author had a lot to say but tried to compress the story in as few words as possible. While it's okay to skimp in some areas, it's not a good idea to skimp on the romantic build-ups. While the romance and the romantic scenes were enoyable, they could have been much moreso with just a few more pages added to each scene. Despite this minor flaw, the events in the book made for a very enjoyable story. There was always something going on and Rose and Dragon were two very likeable characters. I very much enjoyed this book and I will definitely read another book by this author.
