Rating: Summary: "...magic was in knowing how to make the fairy tale reality" Review: ...And in another magical novel by Mary Alice Kruesi, who is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors, she manages to do just that... Ms. Kruesi blends "fantasy" with elements of "reality" so skillfully that it is easy to believe... 'One Summer's Night' is a journey into one woman's discovery of her heart. With the help of one mystical woman, one surprisingly diverse man and the fey, Laurel is able to let go of her need for structure and facts and open herself to possibilities of which she never dared to dream. This is a romance novel; however, there is a depth to this novel, a blossoming of hope. This, in truth, is so much more than a typical "romance novel". Ms. Kruesi manages, once again, to capture her readers minds and hearts, to transport them into a world where wonders beyond imagining are possible. I have become quite a fan... ()
Rating: Summary: An adorable romance Review: As she heads home to Wilmington, Delaware on her twenty-first birthday, Laurel Carrington wonders about her future. Tomorrow Laurel graduates college and the pressure from her loved ones to meld her life into their image of her is very strong. Her father wants her to join him working at a research lab while her boyfriend wants to marry her. Neither path seems right to Laurel.A third avenue surfaces when renowned artist Maybelle Starr offers Laurel an opportunity to study art under her in Fallingstar, Vermont a special place filled with magic. Five years ago, Maybelle attended the Delaware Art Fair where she enjoyed Laurel's works. Over the objection of her father and her boyfriend, Laurel accepts the opportunity to learn under Maybelle's tutelage. In Vermont, Laurel struggles with her mentor's teaching method. Laurel also finds herself attracted to the estate's caretaker, "just" Dane, who fears the newcomer will hurt Maybelle. As Laurel and Dane become acquainted, they fall in love, but any long-term relationship remains threatened by the outside world and Maybelle's secrets. ONE SUMMER'S NIGHT is an entertaining adult fairy tale. The story line is fun as Mary Alice Kruesi paints a special place where love thrives even when the mundane outside world intrudes. The lead couple is a wonderful duo and the support cast from both inside and outside of Fallingstar adds depth and conflict to the shaky, but loving relationship between Dane and Laurel. From the start, Ms. Kruesi has shown she has the right stuff and is second to none when it comes to enchanting her audience. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: Enchanting! Rating: Summary: thanks I needed that Review: I read this on the plane. It took me to a world far away - a true escape. I needed that!
Rating: Summary: True Fantasy Review: If you like fantasy, this book will make you happy. This is not the kind of romantic novel I usually go for, but the story was well told for the type of writing Mary Alice Kruesi is known for. She does a nice job of weaving fantasy with contempory life. The love affair between Dane and Laurel, although not overly passionate, is real and believable. If you are looking for something different, this is a good book by a talented author.
Rating: Summary: Mildly interesting fantasy, boring romance. Review: In this story line, girl whose mother abandoned her escapes overbearing but loving father to the woods of Vermont to find herself. She lives a storybook life with a magical "mother" substitute and is courted by a tall dark handsome man who also happens to be a genius. In short order, she discovers the magic in her own heart. The romance is a little loose in the loafers; I like my romances more torrid. However, if the world of magic and fairies appeals to you, you might enjoy the fantasy.
Rating: Summary: What a piece of FLUFF! Review: It's a shame that bookstores don't have a "satisfaction guaranteed or your money back" policy. This one would most definitely be returned.
