Rating: Summary: Outstanding Debut! Review: I read. . . I craved. . . I LOVED! What a terrific new book by a terrific new author! I could not put it down. With a daring new spin on the age-old pirate theme, Claudia Dain has produced a winner. 5 stars!
Rating: Summary: The writing was excellent but... Review: I thought that the writing was excellent, the details to the sun set from page one was written beautifully, however it went on and on and on. I am sorry but I still can't bring myself to finish this book. I am in chapter four and have not been drawn into the characters yet, but the sunset was lovely.
Rating: Summary: Very Disappointing! Review: I totally agree with the "reader from NC" and "tcandee". This book has a wonderfull plot and could easily be a bestseller if it hadn't been so poorly developed. The first chapters are hot but I've read better hot scenes and if a story doesn't have a good development, hot scenes are not enough to make you enjoy the book. You keep waiting for something more to happen and it never occurs. The ending was an anti-climax.
Rating: Summary: Great Plot!.. Review: I truely, truely liked this book and was very impressed with many aspects of it. The plot was simply amazing. There wasn't anything that I didn't like about it. Claudia Dain weaved many different things into this book, like Lidia's capture by pirates, her seduction and her confused feelings about it, Dan's own turmoil over the turn his life had taken over the past 4 years before Lidia. I just loved it. It was all so wonderful! However, her character development just seemed lacking to me. I didn't find myself really truly relating to and falling in love with the characters until the very very end!... so sad, because it was otherwise such a great novel! With, by the way, a GREAT ending!!! I hope to see more books from Claudia Dain, perhaps with improved character development? She truely does have much talent. Overall, still a very good read! I certainly wasn't disapointed. I would recommend it to anyone.

Rating: Summary: Dissapointed Review: I was frankly dissapointed. Yes, the author has a wonderfulsense of humor and it was evident in the bantering between the maincharacters. What I didn't like was the fact that she started in the middle of the story. She didn't give a beginning or an end to the story, things were just left hanging. I found the characters extremely two dimensional, I did not believe their love towards one another. In fact, the only reason I finished the book was to see how the author would end it. But she didn't, she left it unfinished. Maybe it's just me but I like a complete story.
Rating: Summary: Tell Me Lies is teriffic! Review: I was hesitant to write a review, never having written one, but couldn't resist after reading this excellent book. Claudia Dain took me captive on the first page! She has that rare gift of being able to pull the reader into another time and place, making these 18th century characters come to life through her truly riveting style. This is her first book? I agree...cannot wait for the next!
Rating: Summary: Mediocre Pirate Romance... Review: I was kinda disappointed in this one. Never trying Ms. Dain before I decided to pick this one up since I adore pirate reads, but this quickly fell short of what I am used to. It dragged in places and the hero wasn't very likable. They weren't together most of the book, just at the beginning and near the end. The middle seemed to be filler with nothing special to say. Just pages of how Lydia adjusts to life after her wild and impulsive decision to give herself to the pirate captain holding her hostage months earlier. I have read dozens of pirate romance stories and this is one of the duller ones. Typical storyline with nothing new to add to the genre. You can see the outcome miles away without even finishing the book. The beginning stars out smack dab in the middle of a scuffle between the pirates who want her as she is tied to the mast and then quickly goes into the story with her giving herself to the captain to save herself from rape and murder amongst the others, then we leave the ship just as quickly (within possibly 2 chapters) and the rest is the heroine adjusting to life afterwards. Pretty dull in spots and too much talking between secondary characters without much interaction between the main characters with predictable outcomes makes this a disappointing read for me and not a keeper. If you're looking for some great pirate romances, may I suggest Connie Mason's 'Pirate' for starters? It's action-packed and filled with twists and turns with lots of heartpounding romance to boot! Rating: Summary: What a wonderful non-stop read! Review: I was so impressed with Claudia Dain's first novel that I cannot wait until her second book is published. She has such an incredible sense of attention to detail. I felt as if I were there with the characters and truly felt their conflicts and emotions. Ms. Dain weaves a wonderful story of survival and true love. Lydia and Dan were real characters with an emotional depth that is missing in most romance novels today. I am anxiously waiting for Ms. Dain's next novel. I have no doubt that I will be as pleased with the second as I was with the first. My compliments to you, Ms. Dain.
