Rating: Summary: A great premise for a story.... Review: ....yet the writing missed its mark. I like the idea of trying to spread the wrongness of prejudice. Pettiness and bigotry should always be brought to light and shown how harmful it is. In that, One Moonlit Night suceeds. The plot itself was written simplistically and I found that the story was very predictable. When I read a book, I like details; to see, smell, taste and touch everything. This story seemed to move from one scene to the next just trying to get to the end as opposed to stopping along the way to live life. Thus saying, Ms. James does a good job in defining her characters and delving into what makes them "tick". We feel for Dominick, Olivia and Emily for the hardships they have endured, and although we have to dislike the villian, we understand why the person did what they did. I can't suggest to run out and grab this book, but if it crosses your path, pick it up.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful story! Review: A tale of prejudice and overcoming the odds, I found this book a totally engrossing read; in fact, I couldn't put it down! Dominic was a perfect dark hero and Olivia is just the match for him. I also found the love story between Emily and Andre just as engrossing. I can't wait 'til her next book comes out!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful story!!! Review: A touching, heartwarming story that made me ache inside. Dominic is a to-die-for hero and Olivia isn't the usual stubborn, independent heroine that can get so tiresome. I found myself rooting for both of them. Don't miss this one!!! It's the first of Ms. James' books that I've read but it definitely won't be the last.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!! Review: FIRST BOOK OF MS. JAMES THAT I'VE READ AND IT WAS VERY GOOD.
THE CHARACTERS WERE VERY REAL AND IT JUST REALLY KEEP MY INTEREST ALL THE WAY THROUGH....
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: Having read several of Samantha James's earlier works, I was looking forward to an interesting, believable story and scintillating characters, and this book does not disappoint! The story moves quickly and, although our hero and heroine have the usual misunderstanding, these are serious ones rather than insipid. Terrific book.
Rating: Summary: I LOVED THIS BOOK!! Review: I couldn't put it down and didn't want it to end. Dominic was a perfect hero and Olivia is just the match for him. Add the sweet love story of Emily and Andre. Dominic was half Gypsy, half English felt he didn't belong with either and was rejected by his peers. His strength helped overcome all the predjudism he had to face. There is still world wide predjudice against Gypsies. I loved seeing them as a child (in the 40's) in downtown Los Angeles, they have always fascinated me and I love reading about them. A wonderful book and I recommend it to all who love, love and a happy ending.
Rating: Summary: One Boring Night Review: I found this book to be a very flat and dull read. I couldn't see the attraction between Dominic and Olivia and don't even start on her sister and the gypsy. Best save your money for books better written.
Rating: Summary: Great!! Review: I loved this book. All of the Samantha James books that I've read have been very good. This one and _Gabriel's Bride_are two of my favorites.
Rating: Summary: Never Came Close to the Mark! Review: I was VERY disappointed in this book. The plot was wonderful, and indeed, that is what inspired me to purchase the book, but the writing was so cliche and dull, I couldn't bring myself to finish the novel. The author does too much exposition up front and tells us every detail about the characters history before we have any questions. There's no mystery, at all! Everything is very predictable and the motivation for their actions was very weak.
Rating: Summary: A special book by a special writer Review: In 1821, Vicar Sherwood is murdered, apparently by a Gypsy. The abrupt death of her father leaves his daughter Olivia and her blind sister without any income. When word reaches the vicarage that the Earl of Ravenwood, Dominic St. Bride, will soon open the family hall, Olivia obtains work at the manor to support herself and her sibling. When Dominic and Olivia meet, sparks fly. However, his parentage is questionable as he is the bastard son of the recently deceased Earl and a Gypsy woman. Dominic sees suspicion wherever he goes as he fits in neither world. However, just beneath Olivia's eyes filled with distrust lurks a sizzling desire for him. He wants her, but she hesitates because his blood flows with the same taint as the person who killed her father. New York Times best-seller, Samantha James, is at the top of her game with her latest Regency romance, ONE MOONLIT NIGHT. The story line will move readers as two beautiful, but flawed individuals struggle to overcome their ethnic differences via a deep abiding love. The talented Ms. James turns the novel, which could have been a trite piece of mumbo jumbo into a great story that will please fans of the sub-genre. Anyone who has not read a Ms. James' novel is missing out on some of the best historical romances on the market today. Harriet Klausner
