Rating: Summary: Not Gayle's Best Review: Like some other reviewers, I wanted to like this book. I kept trying. I kept reading, thinking it would get there...but it really didn't. I am a fan of Mr. Gayle's work, but this is not his best. The book moves very slow (no pun intended for those of you who will point out that the entire book takes place over three days), and the spark is just not there. The only character which has any sort of development is Will, and I just couldn't bring myself to care that much about him. Its saving grace is the fact that the ending of the book is at least a bit surprising.
I also read that "if you like Nick Hornby, you'll love Gayle!" but I found that's not always the case. Hornby's work, in my opinion, is so much more thorough and has more heart.
If you need proof of this book's mediocrity, look at the huge number of used copies available through Amazon. If you haven't read Gayle's "Mr. Commitment" I'd start there; much more rewarding.
Rating: Summary: Slow, very slow Review: This book by Mike Gayle was definitely a disappointment. Mr. Commitment was such an awesome book that I was sure Gayle had something great in store for his next novel, but he did not. My Legendary Girlfriend is a very slow read that is rather disturbing at points and sometimes just really boring. The last chapters or so pick up a bit, but still nothing wonderful. I would suggest getting the book from the library if you are interested, but I wouldn't buy it.

Rating: Summary: A Great Book Review: This book is true. That is what struck me the most. Everything I've felt in similar situations he expresses cleary and in a way that helps you to better understand your own feelings. The book is a great statement on love in general. It helped me sort out my life.
Rating: Summary: Classic Review: This book was labelled "The Male Bridget Jones", and i quite agree. However while Bridget Jones - the movie was enjoyed by a wide audience the book, i think was mainly read by girls. This book, is a classic, romantic and hilarious book - i could and have read over and over. William Kelly reminds me of any one of my friends after a severe dumping, and the books really opens up people's minds and shows an honest look at our frank selfishness. I loved it and i think any one who loves romantic comedies (like Jones' Diary) will love this. A MILLION THUMBS UP

Rating: Summary: Classic Review: This is classic Mike Gayle. For those who are incorrect - this was his first novel and Mr Commitment was number 2. I've read all 4 two times each and was only dissapointed in Dinner for Two. I have yet to read His N Hers as its not come out in the small paperback yet and I'm too cheap to pay full wack for the big one!!! The story, as explained by other reviewers, revolves around the miserable existence of Will and basically one weekend in his life. His misery is our enjoyment! I'm actually amazed that this book is enjoyed by Americans - its so UnAmerican and totally British. Just shows to go you doesnt it? A speedy read that also has an air of mystery towards the end (as does Turning Thirty which doesnt end so sweet). cheers
Rating: Summary: A good "thinking book" Review: This was a great book. Its the only book I have ever read that takes place over only 4 days. It is very intense and its one of those books that you go back and re-read certain parts because they are so meaningful that you have to take time to observe and appreciate its relevance to your life. I also found that since it is so "English" I learned a lot literally. In a time of divorce rates being so high, I think it gives you a perspective of what love should be. It suggests that plenty of things can be difficult in a relationship, but what really matters is that you love "that" person. Its a rare and wonderful thing and I think this book gives an excellent insight into what people do wrong in relationships. I encourage anyone that has just been "dumped" or had a relationship that went bad to read this book. Life is to short to spend 3 years the way Wil did and I think a lot of people do exactly that. This book truly enforced to me that living well is the best revenge. Take that Aggi!
