Rating: Summary: Tame early fare from Stephanie Laurens Review: "A Season for Scandal" is a compilation of two of Laurens' early novellas. Fans of the Bar Cynster series may be disappointed; even though these are regency romances, they are far tamer than the sensual Cynster series. Nevertheless, both stories are fun and have compelling Cynster-ish heroes. I found the heroine in "Tangled Reins" annoying - one of those spunky young ladies who proves her independence by doing exactly the stupid/dangerous thing the hero warns her not to do, thus allowing him to rescue her. The heroine in "Fair Juno" was more interesting - a widow whose former husband fell into disgrace and committed suicide. Unfortunately, Laurens doesn't develop the interesting emotionally angles here as fully as she might. Despite my complaints, these were fairly innocuous stories and a light, pleasant read.
Rating: Summary: A good read Review: Although I read the reviews by other writers I must say I wasvastly disappointed in these two stories by Stephanie Laurens. I haveread all of her books and have loved them all except this one. Therewere pages and pages of the hero/heroine's thoughts which means no dialogue which really got unnerving after a time. Glad to see these were her earlier books as her later books are wonderful. I gave 3 stars because of her later books, not that I thought this book deserved 3 stars.

Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT Review: I found the stories quite excellent for among the first stories written by the author -- any author will progress and get better as they write more. I enjoyed Hazelmere and his complications in winning Dorothea and Martin Willesden trying to convince Helen Waldon to marry him -- the stories were comfortable [not intense] and I love meeting old friends in another story. Well worth reading.
Rating: Summary: 2 Stories in one book! Review: I have been a huge fan of Stephanie Laurens and have read all her books. It was a nice surprise when I bought this book and realized it contained 2 stories. The first one was of Dorothea and Marc. Dorothea having recently lost her mother to illness was planning on taking her sister to London to stay with their Grandmama who wants to turn them out for their first season. Dorothea has no intention of marrying, being twenty two and used to doing things her way, but wants her sister to have her time. Before leaving Dorothea has a chance encounter with the Marquis of Hazelmere on his estate grounds which border hers. However, once in London the Marquis can't seem to forget Dorothea. His interest in her made him have an immediate distaste for his mistress and dismissed her. There starts his pursuit of Dorothea. I liked this story but it lacked the passion between the two characters that is normally present in one of Stephanie Laurens books. I was disappointed when Dorothea realized she was in love with the Marquis so quickly, they were never really alone and had only really kissed once. I couldn't see how this could happen without them spending sometime together alone. However, this story did keep my attention and I found it enjoyable to read though not as passionate as the Cynster men novels. The next story is about another character from the previous story . Helen Walford and Martin the Earl of Merton was a nice story as well. Helen a widow whom after a horrible first marriage does not even consider attempting marriage again. That is until the Earl of Merton sets out to convince her though he was once a rake, he's changed and marriage to him will be different. With the help of almost all the people from the first story he sets out to do just that. But it's not as easy as he thought it would be.
Rating: Summary: A real romance Review: I love Stephanie Laurens books. This was a flook, I never knew it was 2 books in one. What I loved most about this book, is its ALL Romance and not almost all sex. I love how Ms. Laurens writes, so detailed... and you just drift right in her books. This was pure Jane Austen kind of romance. The kind I love the most. The kind that makes your heart float. My kind of romance. I liked both stories. It is slower to read, but that is only because she writes with lush details, that make you enter the book as you read. I hope Ms Laurens you keep writing like this.

Rating: Summary: SNOOZER!! Review: I was soooooooo disappointed by this book! I bought it purely for Ms. Laurens' name. I thought it would be a great read on vacation. I was so upset that it wasn't anywhere near the quality of the Bar Cynster books. Thank goodness I bought a Bar Cynster book with me and wound up rereading it on vacation just to entertain myself with a good book. Please Ms. Lauren stick to the Bar Cynster quality books that we have all come to love and romance over!

Rating: Summary: GeeeZzzzzzzz! Double Jeopardy?? Review: My goodness, I have never read such a tedious book in all of my life. It's so boring, I feel like weeping! I am sorry Ms. Laurens and to those who are a fan of hers. I have tried and tried to continue reading this book but each page just simply didn't enthralled me. Worst, it makes me sleepy. It's a good sleeping therapy, I say! It took me 5 days, 5 days of dragging myself just to get to the 200+ pages and still no excitement building up. So, finally, I have given up. -- CLOSE THE BOOK -- I have griped about books that I THOUGHT were overly detailed and have lots of unnecessary/repetitive descriptions but after this one, I'll think twice before complaining so again. Never have I read one as bad as this book. Talk about EXTREMES! OVER-detailing is an understatement to describe this one. Perhaps I could even bypass this flaw if scenes were interesting enough and not repetitive. Ugh! Cut it and get to the point. This is simply not for me. The hero and the heroine in the first story, Tangled Reins, Marc and Dorothea's character was no help at all either. Both are just too unlikable for me to continue on... No character development, no foreplay or byplay, no sexual tension, no love... what's left? None... just 2 characters in motion. At least, they're moving! Aside from the plot (What plot?), the writing style also made this book more tiresome. It's too compacted, no spaces or next line to seperate dialogues (not that there's much of dialogues there anyways). I guess this is needed to save space for the next story. Again, it isn't my kind of book. I have never rated 1 star in any of my book readings. I told myself that I'll only rate 1 star to a book that I couldn't finish at all and I even told myself that this will never happend or I'll surely rue that day. Alas, the day has come! However, now that I am thinking about it (and perhaps I am just being generous), it certainly isn't fair to rate this book a 1 star just because I COULDN'T finish it. I rated it two stars instead because who knows the second story, FAIR JUNO would come out better or perhaps who knows the ending of the first story, Tangled Reins, might suddenly improved. READ IT YOURSELF. I, on the other hand, simply don't have the inclination whatsoever to find out. Sorry, this is my first of Stephanie Laurens and I am the kind of person who never say never... but, at this moment, if asked to read one of her works, I would most politely decline. (This is suppose to be one of her earlier works so perhaps that explains it). I am sorry, Ms. Laurens and her fans. Once again, this is only my opinion. Read it anyway, esp. if you are a fan of hers. Who knows you might enjoy it more than I have.
