Rating: Summary: ``really wicked!~~!! Review: Once I started reading the first sentence of the story, I couldn't put it down unless I reach the very last word of the book. It's really an awesome book to enjoy! The Story goes with Lady Sofia Beatrice Rosalynde Anne Therese Howard that has many suitors as she has names. But she's spurned every last one of them, to the dismay of her guardian, King Edward I. When she once again met with this young Knight,Sir Tobin de Clare, their love story goes as Sofia waits while Tobin is gone and how she sets something up to revenge of leaving her without a word. I recommend this to the people who needs a little cheering. This book is totally wicked!
Rating: Summary: Wild and wonderful Medieval romance Review: Since she was four, Lady Sofia Howard has been a ward of King Edward Plantagenet. Over the years, the monarch has been patient with his mischievous younger cousin, who has rejected the hand of many suitors. However, Edward decides it is time for Sofia to marry. As her future spouse, Edward selects Tobin de Clare, son of the Earl of Gloucester. Sofia has cherished Tobin from the moment she challenged him and he claimed three kisses. However, though she may even love him, she feels he agreed to marry her to obtain her wealthy estate. She disguises herself as a boy and joins the Miracle Players, a traveling troupe of actors. Tobin follows, but is unable to keep her new friends safe as someone murders them. To keep her at his side forever, Tobin knows he must tell Sofia that he loves her. However, that proves very difficult for him to say because men protect their hearts with armor. WICKED, the third tale in Jill Barnett's WILD and WONDERFUL Medieval trilogy, is a fabulous story that centers on the various phases of love. The lead characters are an amusing pair whose squabbles and dares add spice to the plot. The story line is humorous and entertaining, but provides a deeper understanding that people change and mature as does their love for one another. This trilogy is a superb Medieval romance collection that will bewitch readers for years to come. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: Tender, sexy, unforgettable Review: The concluding book in Jill Barnett's excellent trilogy is a gorgeous story of young love, with all its attendant heartbreak and passion. Sophie's journey of the heart is one you'll never forget. Brava!
Rating: Summary: A wonderful job of storytelling. Review: The thing that most makes a book memorable for me is great storytelling. I loved the style in which this book is written. It is a fresh perspective on the usual romance story. It opens with Lady Sofia remembering, opening a journal that triggers her thoughts regarding the often tumultuous love affair between herself and Tobin. Lady Sofia is the ward of King Edward, well-dowered out of necessity. She is a wily, often sharp-tongued spirited girl who foils his efforts to have her wed. She falls in love with Sir Tobin, truly almost at first sight, although she is far too proud and willful to admit it. A cruel jest on Sir Tobin's part places them at odds and what ensues is a classic love-hate relationship. All-in-all, I enjoyed this book. There are some parts that were a little silly and some of the plot twists to build up suspense seemed a little contrite and melodramatic. But as a whole, it is a good romance with humor, and as stated, told in a wonderful perspective.
Rating: Summary: WICKEDLY DELICIOUS!!!! Review: There are so few authors whose books have me impatiently counting down the days until they come out - Jill Barnett is at the top of that list!!! I have read and re-read every book she has ever written and cannot get enough. WICKED not only lived up to the high standards I, and I'm sure other readers, have come to expect from Jill Barnett, it surpassed it! There was something different about this book, something almost magical in the way Barnett captured the theme of young love. I must say I totally disagree with the post that states Sofia and Tobin "were not fully developed" characters. I do not want to give away any of the wonderful plot--especially the scene in the nunnery! (Best thing I've read in years!!!!) But, I believe that the whole point to the story was Tobin not knowing that Sofia spent her whole life waiting for men. Had he known she was waiting and then decided not to leave her, it would have seemed as if he were only doing what she wanted to get her back and I (or anyone else) would have never believed he truly loved her. We know he truly loved her because he refused to leave her side when she needed him. BUY THIS BOOK!!! Not only is it the best historical I have read all year, but WICKED has the most beautiful cover I have ever seen!
Rating: Summary: One word, untterly fantastic!! Review: This book is fantastic. Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. I read it in less than one day. This book is so full of emotion, there were chapters that I laughed so hard I almost fell out of my chair. Then there were chapters that I sat and cried until my eyes were raw. Jill Barnett is an exquisite writer with superb talent in telling a story. I can't wait to read her next book.
Rating: Summary: Truly Wonderful Review: This book was such a pleasure to read. Strong willed, intelligent, and beautiful Sophia has spurned all of her suiters, to the great charign of her protector King Edward. SO he decides to betroth her to Sir Tobin, who Sophia has fallen madly in love with, despite the fact that their relationship got off to a rather bad start. I really enjoyed watching Tobin fall for dear Sophia even though he likes to think that he doesn't have a heart. Ms. Barnett makes the reader feel as if they are in the story with the characters and presents such a vivid visual picture that I can see the action in the story. The characters are also beleiveable and likeable. Sophia is strong willed with a sharp wit without being overly reckless. Tobin was a perfect knight in shining armor; he was handsome, understanding, and loving. Between the characters, plot, and excellent writing style, Ms. Barnett has written an excellent romance that I recommend highly. Happy Reading!
Rating: Summary: Soooo good! Review: This is an incredible book! It kept me up all night because I just had to finish Sophia and Tobin's story. I laughed and I cried, even down to the very last line, which had me sobbing and smiling at the same time. I read a review recently and it says it all! Jill Barnett explores the stages of love: young love, passionate love and love that grows into a mature meeting of minds and souls. And I agree. The beauty and power of this book is not only in Ms. Barnett's delicious prose, her hallmark humor--some places I laughed out loud again and again at her wonderful characters and funny, funny dialogue--at the moments where tragedy strikes and her characters survive with a strength that makes you truly admire them, but the power is there in the stunning theme of this book: that love changes everything. Kathe Robin said 'that for those of us who fell in love young and still have that love later in life, this book is truly a tribute.' I agree wholeheartedly!
Rating: Summary: another winner! Review: this is another one of those books that will go on my prized shelf next to "bewitching" (barnett), "the bargain" (veronica sattler), "no sweeter heaven" (katherine kingsley), "then came you" (lisa kleypas), and "seduction" (amanda quick). "wicked" was utterly romantic, although I find the title a little bit off the mark. I don't think there was anything wicked about this story. It was heart wrenching, and I thought it was brilliant the way barnett cast the story dialogue into parts. One part when lady sofia was a young girl, then the next section when she was fifteen, finally to the part where she became a woman and betrothed to sir tobin. It was also wonderful how barnett throughout the entire story allowed the reader to see that this story was a reminiscence of lady sofia. Barnett uses the past and present to make her story more personal. Despite the humor in this story I felt that there was also great sadness. There were parts where I was really touched and felt close to tears. Again I have to say this is definitely one of the most truly romantic novels that i've read.
Rating: Summary: WICKED was wonderful! Review: This story was delightful...I agree with the other reviewers who said CKINGLUV doesn't have a clue! Jill Barnett's characters are always so well-written and this book is no exception! This story has everything right in it and nothing at all wrong. Don't miss this book...you will certainly regret it.
