Rating: Summary: Kayla is Today's Youth Review: Yo Yo Love is a testament to today's generation of mixed-up, sexed-up young men and women. They believe the way to a person's heart is through sex and money, and that lovers are as indispensable as Kleenex. Case in point: Kayla is an intelligent sistah who looks for love in all the wrong places. After spending a day or even a few hours with a guy, she's imagining their wedding and having their children. After running into several "nuts," she finally meets Wil, a charming cat who sweeps her off her feet with gifts and fabulous lovemaking. Yet, he turns out to be a typical alley cat after Kayla finds out Wil is married with a child. All along the way is nice-guy Samir. He's always had a thing for her, but Kayla wouldn't give him the time of day - until Wil breaks her heart. Finding herself alone, she gives Samir a chance. At one point, she even dates both men. I won't spoil the ending, but even at the novel's close, we haven't found a new, enlightened Kayla. We find the same naïve girl still trying to find love anywhere she can get it. Granted there are a lot of older generations still struggling with the same issues. Yet this book, as well as it's written, points out all the flaws of our youth - especially women who deal with the fact that they never had a positive male figure in their lives. Okay, now I'm off my soapbox! I did think the novel was well written. I felt as if Kayla was really genuine and was true to form. I'm looking forward to reading "Got a Man." I hope Daaimah doesn't disappoint.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put the book down Review: I accidentally came across this book at the book store. I was looking for Eric Dickey's lastest book when I saw this book at the front counter. I decided to buy it and I am happy that I did. I enjoyed this book a lot and it surprised me that a 23 yr old wrote it. I am in the process of purchasing "Got a Man" and hope to purchase future books from this author.

Rating: Summary: Easy read Review: I thought this was a nice novel to read during the summer, because it was definitely a page turner. Ms. Kayla was a bit too naive at times but believable.
Rating: Summary: Constructive Criticism Review: ... The story moved swiftly to nowhere. In addition to it being a dizzy tale of humiliation and self-destruction, there is a lack of character development that the author tries to make up for by using Philly homeboy/flygirl dialect, the grammar is not that of college level; the structure of the sentences are simple (aren't you currently attending Temple University?), and there are inconsistencies in the details of the story which cause the main character, Kayla, to be hypocritical and the story to be unbelievable. I have never before read a story in which the main character arrives to the same place in life in the ending that he or she starts from in the beginning, without the author intentionally trying to accomplish it. (I would love the author, Daaimah S. Poole, to repspond and challenge that). Overall, this book is a 226 page boomerang of insignificance. If you all want to help this fledgling author to further her career and to be a long-time surviver in the getting published game, be honest. Look at the whole "picture" and rethink your reviews. Obviously, I am only one voice that cannot come between Daaimah and writing. Moreover, she's been published twice so most of you, and she, will disregard my opinions anyhow, especially if they are disagreed with. Considering this is your first book, I beg you Daaimah, to respect your readers and to let that be the focus of your future publications. It may not be apparent, but I do wish you the best.
