Rating: Summary: Not one of Jude's best but still worth a try . Review: An Angel for Emily, written by an unforgettable author was (I hate to admit it) forgettable. This book was not Ms. Deveravx's best but by no means was it her worst. I've yet to read that- and believe me when I say I've pretty much read them all- I consider An Angel for Emily middle of the road. I did enjoy reading it and the characters (espically Emily) had the right approach to most of the situations they faced along the way. The story lacked something though and did Emily really believe that Micheal was an Angel??? While An Angel for Emily doesn't really drag the reader in, at least the story isn't full of smut and one can generaly like the characters with out them having sex every three pages. All in all, This story is to be read purely for pleasure not to be hacked to bits by others. You are intitled to your own opinion- But c'mon lay off already this book is not that bad.- for Two really wonderful pieces of writing by Ms. Deveraux, I recomend the Duchess and Remembrance.
Rating: Summary: Guardian angels are a good thing! Review: I normally enjoy Jude Deveraux's historical books more than the present day ones. But this is an exception. Emily's a great librarian, obviously very passionate about what she loves doing. Michael the angel is a delight, and even learning that he has sabotaged her previous life's romances isn't enough to deter me from liking him. Also, this author amuses me with multiple epilogues sometimes. This was one of those. :) Emily reminds me of Kady from Legend, anyhow. Both sweethearts who kinda let themselves be doormats. The evil storyline was a bit different, but all in all, its a good book to loose yourself in.
Rating: Summary: It was okay Review: An Angel for Emily was a nice read. It wasn't an intense or passionate romance novel. It was more quite and sweet. The concept of a guardian angel falling in love with his charge was different. In addition, to the romance the book had a hint of a thriller; a creep mysterious house, bad guys, and an unsolved historical murder. I agree with one reviewer when she wrote that the book seemed hurrried espically at the end. It was wrappped up a little too neatly. Besides the poor ending and the editing mistakes; first Emily has brown eyes then five pages later they are blue! There was the problem with the subplot involving the villians. It just didn't make much sense. Their part of the story seemed an after thought. The connnection to Emily was never hinted at all throughout the novel. It was like reading a who done it and finding out at the end that it was a character added at the last ten pages. Overall it was an easy pass the time novel.
Rating: Summary: Not the Best. but it's Jude.. and she'll never dissapoint me Review: Okay... I think I've read pretty much all of Jude's books... I feel kinda pathetic cause I finished 'Sweet Liar' in about 5 hours... and ever since I've just went on a Jude Spree... This book was closer to the begining of the spree and I was new at it and at the time it was great... I loved it... I did a book report on it... and All was well... but now I realize that it wasn't her best work... but it's jude... and she'll never dissapoint me... I think she is awesome and you can't call yourself a romance reader if you haven't read let's say... at least 10 of her books... (I safely call myself a romance reader) She didn't out do herself... but if yur looking for a good romance that's just fun and fast moving... not a whole lot of plot but a nice little story to pass the time... 'An angel for emily' is a pretty good choice... and you'll appreciate it alot more if you make it one of the first in YOUR 'JUDE SPREE' -Paula , 15
Rating: Summary: Pretty Good Fantasy Review: This is a pretty good original fantasy filled with humor and unlikely situations. I enjoyed the premise and laughed at some of Michael the angels failings. The only thing i didn't like about this book was the hurried up ending. The book moves along enjoyably with nice banter between the characters and some humor but then it was almost as if the author decided it was time to end it so she quickly wraps it up and ends the story with two chapters of epilogues. Despite this weird ending I enjoyed the book.
Rating: Summary: Sorry Jude!! Review: I couldn't make it through the first 4 chapters and trust me I tried so hard. This is the only book from Jude Deveraux I had to put down and couldn't pick back up. Boring a real snoozing book. Jude I love you babe but can't help you on this book. All the others were wonderful. I started with the Velvet Series and just worked my way down the list the rest are a must read but skip this book.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Fantasy Review: I've read the other reviews and each to their own, but I must say - if you catergorize this book where it should be - as an entertaining, fun, fantasy tale - it deserves no less than 5 stars!I found this to be very enjoyable - I love the idea of finally meeting your very own guardian angel and romantically speaking - why not have one who is such a gorgeous hunk of manhood?!? I could deal with that! The dialog was outrageously funny - trademark Deveraux flippancy! - I read this while on vacation and enjoyed it immensely - it is a keeper - Like all of Deveraux's books!
Rating: Summary: Pretty Good Review: WHile not my favorite by Jude Deveraux, this is certaily not the worst and was entertaining. Emily is going back to her hotel after an awards ceremony when she hits a man. She looks outside the car and finds that man she hit to be perfectly well, and claiming to be an angel. Yeah right. But as soon as Emily tries to leave, this angel all of a sudden becomes quite ill and has to be taken to the hospital. We find out that the body our angel has taken is named Michael and is a wanted man. Michael claims that he has been sent to earth to do something having to do with Emily, and they reach the conclusion that there must be some evil after Emily that Michael needs to get rid of. From then on there is intrigue involving earthly spirits, and humans whoa re trying to get rid of Emily, but of course Michael saves the day and everything is happily ever after. Emily is such a kind and caring person, but is a frustrating character because she lets everyone walk all over her, but she grows through the book. Michael is not a very good angel because he does not treat all the people he looks after equally and plays favorites. The only reason I rated this novel so high was that I found it hopeful. It was kind of nice to believe that there are guardian angels looking after us, and the idea made me happy, which is what a romance novel should do. THough not Deveraux's best, this book was still ok, but if you do want Deveraux's best find the Velvet series or the wider Montgomery series, which are all excelent. Happy Reading!
Rating: Summary: Worth Reading Review: The idea of a guardian angel falling in love with the person he is guarding is romantic. The first 3 quarters of the book followed this basic theme, but after that the plot changed and was hard to follow. However the end will make you smile as you realize that they will live, happily ever after.
Rating: Summary: If you love angel stories, this one's for you Review: ...I just can't get over the unoriginality of this book. It's City of Angels, The Preacher's Wife, and Michael all rolled into one. If you like angel stories, this one will captivate you. There's plenty of cute heaven references and explanations of the afterlife and angel culture. As far as the angel genre goes, it's probably right up there. But if you are a little weary of the angel fad, this story will annoy you. And the stereotype of librarians is just too old fashioned for 1998.
