Rating: Summary: Can someone add a "0" star rating please???? Review: This book was really bad... And just to let you know, I can handle a really bad book if it has some really good [provacative] scenes to compensate. But that just didn't happen here. The [provacative] scenes had no excitement to them at all; I'm mean just plain boring. Andre was a typical man and Teo was just plain stupid. She was {if I'm not mistake; it's been a while since I've read the book.} 28-years-old but she acted like she was all of 13 with a really big crush on the local school boy. She is not at all the type of character I could be proud of. The author portrays her has weak and with very little common sense. This was my second book by this author and so far she has not impressed me at all. The first book I read by her was just ok and I was hoping she would get better with this novel but it didn't work out that way. I've had enough of this author.

Rating: Summary: What a boring sexual cliche! Review: This book went from bad to worse. It was so loaded with trite sexual scenes, it became BORING! I put the book down 1/3 of the way through, and it is still sitting there. I like some plot in my books, thank you.
Rating: Summary: One of Susan Johnson's best! Review: This couple's love story was so passionate and so touching!! I loved this book. I have read all of Susan Johnson's novels, and I've had a hard time selecting the BEST as each is better than the one before. However, these characters have left a lasting impression that has stuck- and thats saying alot when you read as many romance novels as I do...The historical footnotes are a nice touch, especially for us history buffs, and I appreciate the hard work that goes into researching these stories. Finally, the passion sizzles, which is what you expect from a Susan Johnson romance! I eagerly await the next one.
Rating: Summary: Good history, blah character development Review: This is the first book I've read by Susan Johnson. While I was impressed with her historical knowledge (she hit the batle of Zurich on the nose), I was not impressed by how she showed Massena (Andre Duras) in the light she did. I'm not sure how much research was done on the French Marshal by Susan, but it seems that a bit more could be done. I was put off by the description of 'Duras' in the book; not at all correlating with the actual physical appearance of Massena, and was EXTREMELY put off by the cover art portrait. British uniforms? Please. Read the book before you do the cover art. The content was a bit unbelievable at times, but I realize that some liberty has to be taken to make the masses happy. I only wish Susan had stuck a little more faithfully to history and make this less of a fantasy and more of the historical novel I was hoping for. I'd still recommend it to friends, though. A stirring read and the battle scenes are perfect. How many romance authors know the range of a 12-pounder? In sum, magnificent history, so-so research, and light character development. A mediocre show for this apparently popular author. I hope the next book is the series isn't so dissapointing.
Rating: Summary: OH, MY GOD!! THIS IS GOOD!!!! Review: This is the first Susan Johnson's book I've red... but, She is already in to one of my 5 favorite writters.. OH MY GOD!!.. the way she explains.. all the explicit details is just soo captivating!! I just cant wait to read WICKED, cause if its half as good as TABOO.. then is WELL WORTH IT!!...
Rating: Summary: Interesting Steamy Hot Sex/Ho-Hum Historical Battles Review: This was my second Susan Johnson Book, my first was Blaze. Iloved Blaze and highly recommend it. Taboo has more historical battlescenes, for my taste, but the relationship between Teo and Andre is so juicy that I was able to overlook the boring battles and statics. The love that developes between the two and the really erotic love-making is worth the read. I thought Andre was a wonderful HERO. The love story itself is also extremely orginal and not like so many of the other romance/historical novels out there. However if you are easily offended by graphic sexual detail, this is not the book for you.
Rating: Summary: I loved this book! Review: While this novel placed a lot of focus on the French Revolution, I was warmed to heart by the love shared between the hero and heroine. The hero, Andre, though he lost a few points from me for an indiscretion towards the end of the book, was--I believe--the kind of man every woman dreams of having. He was extremely loving, kind, sensitive, sexy ... here's a hero who would do anything for his heroine, travel at any distance to be with her, go to any lengths to protect her. You could feel that he was a man, having never experienced true love before, who was totally and completely in love with his woman. I found scenes like when Teo got injured and Andre so lovingly and vigilantly took care of her, when he had to send Teo away for her and their baby's safety, the love letters he wrote to her, his reaction to the letters, especially the last one, Teo wrote to him; so endearing, so heart-warming that you wanted to laugh when he laughed, rejoice when he rejoiced, cry when he cried. I wanted this book to go on and on despite the long descriptions of war. I'd rather have bits and pieces of the deep, heartfelt romance these two shared and a whole lot of war, rather than a little bit of war and a poorly developed romance plot. Andre's and Teo's love was so strong, so powerful, so real, ... it stood out between all the evils of the war that was going on around them. None of SJ's heroes has ever affected as deeply as Andre has. And though some might say that this book was bogged down by too much details of the war, I think the supporting story of the protagonists' love affair made up for that beautifully.
And though some might feel Teo had some inadmirable issues, I'd say that's highly understandable after all she'd gone through before meeting her beau. I think we all would reaction the way Teo did after having found love for the first time only to have it threatened by the uncertainties of death and war. Besides, there were times in the novel that proved that she was strong and could hold her own.
The only problem I had with this book was that Andre succumbed to the throes of depression and fear that he might die and never see his family again. It sort of made me see him in a different light even though I still liked him very much as a hero. Plus, I think SJ could have done a better job with the ending, but all in all, out of all the SJ novels I've read (and I've read most), Taboo, in the end, turned out to be my favourite, just because of Andre and the deep, deep love he had for and shared with Teo. You simply will have to read the book to understand what I mean. He's the bravest, sexiest, most sensitive hero I have ever read about in all the romance books I have ever read in my life! And I have read hundreds, probably even thousands. If you're a hopeless-romantic like me, then I definitely recommend this book! And as in all of SJ novels, there's always the added bonus of some very spicy love scenes!
