Rating: Summary: FEELIN HOT HOT HOT Review: WHAT CAN I SAY TO LET THE READERS KNOW HOW THE BOOK WILL TAKE THEM TO ANOTHER LEVEL OF ENJOYMENT! I KNOW YOU WILL EXPERIENCE SUCH DELIGHT AND DRAMA AND RICHNESS OF CULTURE. I WAS SO IMMERSED IN THIS BOOK, THAT I CALLED OFF WORK JUST TO CURL UP AND READ MR CHANNER'S CREATIONS OF LIFE AND LOVE. THE CHARACTERS ARE SO DEAR TO ME THAT I FEEL COLIN HAS THE INSIDE SCOOP ON ALOT OF READERS HEARTS. IT WARMS MY SOUL TO KNOW THAT A WRITER CAN REVEAL SUCH HONESTY AND DEPTH THAT YOU CAN LITERALLY FEEL HIS CHARACTERS RACING THROUGH YOUR BONES AS HE TAKES US ON A EMOTIONAL RIDE OF LOVE, LOSS AND REDEMPTION. AS I SHARED MY THOUGHTS WITH FRIENDS THAT HAD ALREADY READ THE BOOK, WE ALL SMILED A DELICIOUS SMILE THAT SAID" WASN'T IT A GREAT READ AND WHEN HIS NEXT BOOK COMING OUT. WE JUST CYAN WAIT.....''
Rating: Summary: Waiting in Vain for Channer's Next Book Review: I read this book some time ago and have been recommending it highly to friends. The characters are well-developed and come alive. A variety of issues are touched upon. It sounds like a cliche, but this was a hard book to put down. Mr. Channer brings the characters and locations to life. No character is too minor and allowed to be just part of the scenery. The reader gets to know them all well. Of course I fell in love with Fire. As a Jamaican, I particularly appreciated the Jamaican characters and the honest portrayal of issues we face (and don't adequately address) back home, but readers of all nationalities will love this book.
Rating: Summary: Sensational!--New fan Review: When I picked up Colin Channer's Waiting in Vain, I did not know what to expect, save for the praising reviews written about it. It did not take me long to see why. I could not put the book down for its intensity and tenderness. It is passionate and inspirational. I felt drunk savoring the vivid imagery as I smelled and tasted and watched and listened and touched its pages. If you have ever felt the urge to pursue your passion despite opposing influences, Waiting in Vain will replenish you and reaffirm your pursuit to a crystal clarity. What a wonderful passionate talent!
Rating: Summary: Not Just Another Read Review: As someone who left Jamaica twenty years ago this book brought back memories as only another J'can could. His words, his thougths and feelings allowed us all (J'cans and non-J'cans) to experience the feelings of what it's like to be raised amongst the upper-class and his rebellion about his times spent in the ghetto & appreciating that way of life & his association w/his Rastafarian uncle. The characters & plot of Waiting in Vain have shown us how our background and uprbringing have a pro/con effect in the outcome of our daily needs, wants & desires. Waiting In Vain is a definite must read and must have for always. This will be a reference novel for my friends who have often asked about growing up in Jamaica.
Rating: Summary: Love stands till the test of time Review: I truly loved this book. It had been sitting on my shelf for a year and I couldn't decide what to read. I pulled down this book and started reading it on the bus and at work. I found it too hard to put down. Colin Channer's novel is a great read for anyone who doesn't like their romance sappy. Fire and Sylvia knew that they were meant for each other from the moment their eyes met. Sylvia's fiance wouldn't have never given her the love that she yearned for because he was too set in his ways. Fire, despite how he looks and what he lacks materially, is a man with compassion and sensitivity. In the end, Sylvia and Fire porve that love conquers all.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: Colin Channer is such a descriptive writer. Waiting in vain takes you to all the places in his book. It's just a great book, don't just take my word for it-read it for yourself and you'll agree with me.
Rating: Summary: Nuff Respect Review: I have to say that this book really opens me up like the sun shining on a rose at dawn. I was radiating for at least two days. It seems as if Colin Channer had a road map into my dreams and wrote them with his pen. I bought the book while at a conference in another State. After reading the first few pages I was hocked for a week, and that's after a 70 hour work week, and two days at the gym. Colin Channer you didn't over do yourself because anything else would have been fatal to your readers (me). I have never read a romance novel that was so close to home (Jamaica) and I am glad that I did. This re-assures the fact that Jamaica has a lot more to offer besides music and food. Thanks for being an intricate part of Life, Love and Jamaica.
Rating: Summary: A collectors item, November 7, 2000 Review: Colin Channer is a poetic and exciting writer whose words capture you from the beginning to end. I fought my sleep in order to read "just one more chapter" of this awesome novel. His words grace the page and he effortlessly strokes you into a trance. I fell in love with his character Fire and I have decided to re-read this novel in order to fall in love again. This book is definitely a collectors item.
Rating: Summary: Love is Alive Review: I just finish reading "Waiting in Vain" written by Colin Channer. I fell totally in love with the novel and most of all "FIRE". I read plenty of love novels, but have not read one as entertaining as this novel. It had my full attention from the Prologue and kept it until the end of the novel. I laughed, cried and felt each and every one of the characters pains. Their fears of falling in love and trusting that this time it was the real thing. I could really relate to Sylvie's concerns when it came to Fire and the security she thought she had found with Lewis. Her character help me to appreciate not to settle with someone you don't love. There are no words to describe Fire. If we all could be that lucky to run across a man who is as romantic, intelligent, handsome, and caring. Fire is also a very sexy man, which I believe is reflected more from his personality than his actual looks. Fire is attractive, but his personality makes him down right sexy. I have recommended this book to all my friends. It is definitely a must read book and a book to be added to your collection. I am a fan for life and I look forward to reading more novels from Colin Channer.
Rating: Summary: To Colin Channer: Review: Your book has reaffirmed my faith in love. I admit that I often get lost in the worlds of the novels that I read, but few, if any, have touched me as "Waiting In Vain" has touched me. Comprehension/ Written By: Quineka Wilson/ Inspired by: Waiting In Vain Perhaps the most ironic thing/ Is that his waiting was not in vain at all./ Or perhaps it was,/ And I am just a single girl/ Still fascinated by the illusion/ That love conquers all;/ Is the beginning of all things/ And the ending of all things./ Even this last attempt to comprehend it.
