Summary: From a Love Story Disliker
Review: First off, I hate love stories, always thought mushy, yucky -give me fantasy or thrillers or knowledge books, but I heard this man read in St. Kitts and Barbados and I had to buy this book. I've never experienced anything quite like it. The book sings, hums, throbs, sometimes snarls at you, it catapults you outside of your comfortable realm and makes you examine yourself and those around you, you FEEL almost every word. It reminds me of being in the Ocean. The book is just beautiful. I can say no more. I'm not a love story convert---but i will definitely devour everything this man writes.

Thank you Colin

Summary: Don't be Afraid
Review: Just finished waiting in vain. I must admit that when my girlfriend gave me the book to read, it sat on my toilet top for a while because the cover reminded me more of Terri than Toni, my being a fan of the latter. After a terrible time with the first 28 pages of "Lord Jim", I went to grab this book and became enthralled for the next 3 days. This book succeeded in bringing me back to Jamaica for a while...

Summary: BIG UP - Colin Channer and Waiting In Vain
Review: I just finished the novel this past weekend, and I thought it was a fantastic read. Keeping a single mother with 2 busy kids enthralled is no small feat! I am normally not a "romance" reader, but Mr. Channer's book read so intricately it felt as if it was autobiographical. His descriptions of places made me feel as if I was there...I've never seen New York or London, yet I was there with his characters; his description of Jamaica made me yearn even more to re-experience the sensory overload I always find when in "The Yard." He writes from a deeply sensual perspective, immersing the reader completely in character's thoughts and emotions. Colin Channer is a gifted novelist, and "Waiting In Vain" is a must-read.

Summary: WAITING IN VAIN
Review: I read for pleasure, Waiting in Vain certainly hit the spot! Artists, writers, musicians many of them with their hearts rooted in Jamaica, living in New York and London pull you into their private lives and wow what lives! I feel the same romantic, erotic feeling from this book as I felt when reading Hemmingway and Updike.

Summary: Entrhralling!
Review: Colin Channer definately has a way with words! This book is one not only to read, but to re-read in order to savor the flow. The characters (the many characters) are painted so vividly that you remember their names, circustances, motives etc. from the first chapter through the last. An all around excellent read.

Summary: I want a 'Fire'
Review: Every woman needs a man like 'Fire.' He's so real. He helped Sylvia find herself insuch unique ways. Channer's style is unique, quite different from most fiction writers. He makes you think instead of telling some things. A great writer.

Summary: WHO SAYS MEN DON'T KNOW ABOUT ROMANCE?
Review: WAITING INF VAIN, PLACES THAT MYTH AND SEVERAL OTHERS TO REST. HERE'S A WORK THAT ONES IMAGINATION RUNS WITH. THE TEXT WINDS ITS WAY STRATEGICALLY THROUGH MEETING, COURTSHIP AND FINALLY COMMITMENT OF A COUPLE. IN THE MIDST OF THESE TWO, MINOR CHARACTERS DECORATE THE PALATE TO SHOW A VIVID REPRESENTATION OF THE TALE'S STATE OF MIND. IN THE END, ONE IS LEFT WITH PLEASANT FANTASIES AND MANGO DREAMS. ALSO, FIRE, REMAINS BURNING WITHIN AND THE HOPE THAT HE WILL ONE DAY MATERIALIZE FOR YOU IN THE FLESH.

I RECOMMEND FOR FUTURE READING, JAMERICAN CONNECTION, BY SANDRA OTTEY. THIS TEXT ALSO TAKES YOU TO THE BLUE MOUNTAINS OF JAMAICA AND BEYOND. ROMANCE, IS ALSO REDEFINED ON SEVERAL PLANES TO OFFER A DIVERSITY OF STYLE.

Summary: A true-to-life love story
Review: Colin Channer has a unique way with words. He's so very poetic. The author really masters the writing rule: "Show...don't tell." He leaves situations to the imagination which lets the reader 'think'. Terific work, Mr. Conner. Keep up the good work.

Summary: Colin is the man!!!
Review: "Waiting in Vain" hooked me from the first sentence. I like Colin Channer's style. He's so poetic...unique...different from the normal fiction writer. The story flows fluidly. I recommend the book wholeheartedly and wish Mr. Channer well in his future work.

Summary: Love & Fire... WOOOOOO!!!!
Review: I recently finished reading "Waiting In Vain" and I have to say that I was more than moved by the way Channer's words seemed to beautifully and poetically intertwine and bring such energy, life and raw, unmasked emotion to the story. I connected with the characters, Sylvia and "Fire" especially, on several different levels! I have not yet been to Jamaica (although I do desire to go there in the very near future).. and reading this book gave me a real sense of the land and the people. Not to mention rejuvenating my wanton romantic spirit and faith that romantic men still DO exist! Channer's mastery with words will leave an indelible impression forever stamped upon your heart and will surely give you something to ponder on long after the last page has been read... it leaves you with a feeling that you won't want to end.. I know I'LL be waiting... not 'in vain' but anxious anticipation for the release of his next work!
