Summary: Mentally challenging one's biases
Review: Waiting in Vain is a thoughtfully written book, the characters are multi-dimensional, and the story flows melodically. It is important, especially for people of color, to have a man's perspective when it comes to relationships. Colin Channer is a wonderful storyteller, weaving in history, geography, music, and love, like the ancient griots in Africa. Everyone can participate in the magic of love in this book.

Summary: Exhilarating, provocative, and educational
Review: I've just finished reading Mr. Channer's book, "Waiting in Vain," and I loved every page! It is funny, inspirational, uplifting, and informative. The characters seem to come-to-life in this story, and I believe, his prospective on love is right on target. If you're looking for fun and excitement, in a book, this one is a "must." Colin has even inspired me to make arrangements to visit Jamaica soon!

Summary: Real and true to life
Review: I also was luck enough to receive an advanced copy of this book. I think this is a breakthrough for African-American writing. This book brings us true to life characters with real experiences and situations. Mr. Channer should be commended for his first book and I look forward to many others from him. His style of writing is fresh and new and exactly what is needed today. I am sure he will be happy with the turnout this summer and I look forward to seeing him at a possible book signing.

Summary: exciting,sensual and positively poetic
Review: I was lucky enough to recieve an advanced copy of this wonderful book and I was completly blown away, the characters are so vivid and exceptionally real to me (being of Caribbean heritage) The main character Fire is an accomplished writer who lives in Jamaica and travels all over. During one of his trips to the U.S.He flirts with a woman who he meet's on the street and begin the process of falling in love even though they try to fight it. What makes this saga work for me is the realism that Colin Channer puts into his characters and their situations. He shows the insecurities of both men & Women in a myriad of situations such as relationships, careers,Class and sex. There is no sugar coating when it comes to how his characters handle or mishandle the things that go on in their lives. And how they come to the realization of what is really important to them. This book is a classic love story with a West Indian flair that is so wonderful and unique. Mr. Channer is so poetic and sensual that even the simple act of eating a fruit takes on an entirely new and exciting meaning. I feel this is a must read for everyone who has ever been in love and also for those who aren't sure what love is really about yet. This book will open your eyes to the many types of love that are out there.I look forward to more books by Colin Channer and so will you! Big Up Colin!!

Summary: Love is Alive
Review: I just finish reading "Waiting in Vain" written by Colin Channer. I fell totally in love with the novel and most of all "FIRE". I read plenty of love novels, but have not read one as entertaining as this novel. It had my full attention from the Prologue and kept it until the end of the novel. I laughed, cried and felt each and every one of the characters pains. Their fears of falling in love and trusting that this time it was the real thing. I could really relate to Sylvie's concerns when it came to Fire and the security she thought she had found with Lewis. Her character help me to appreciate not to settle with someone you don't love. There are no words to describe Fire. If we all could be that lucky to run across a man who is as romantic, intelligent, handsome, and caring. Fire is also a very sexy man, which I believe is reflected more from his personality than his actual looks. Fire is attractive, but his personality makes him down right sexy. I have recommended this book to all my friends. It is definitely a must read book and a book to be added to your collection. I am a fan for life and I look forward to reading more novels from Colin Channer.

Summary: Caribbean Love
Review: I must say I really liked this book. I found the language to be a rich, colorful texture. The Caribbean scenery especially is painted with a garden's vibrance. Books such as these that center around common truisms rejuvenate the spirit. The main characters, Fire and Sylvia, are two distinct individuals who share a passion for their individuality and as well as their common bond. Their lives are complicated by internal and external winds, sometimes pushing them closer, sometimes pulling them apart. I think anyone who reads this book can relate to the characters - whether through their own lives or the lives of people they have known.

Ultimately I found this book to be a study of life's passions. Good and bad. Sometimes those things that you hold so close you must push away. And inversely, those that you once held far, you must now pull closer. I highly recommend.

Summary: Fire is always hot...
Review: Colin Channer is a son of Caribbean soil, a single soul merely descendant of those slaves who chose life over suicide throughout the triangular slave trade.

Like most of us Afrikan descendants he has an innate passion for his work, a mini-universe that channels himself into beautiful lyrics. He is a lyrical god to those who understand where his passion resides and the fact that its source is infinite, his contributions are sure to continue to colour and shape our apetitie for good writing.

Ode to Colin Channer, for writing Waiting in Vain was his first crime against mediocrity in modern romance fiction, setting the standards for his brothers and sisters in the Caribbean and all Diaspora.

Yah Bless you Colin Channer.

Summary: How Did He Know Us So Well?
Review: Colin Channer has managed to capture the way most of us fresh, new, sophisticated, college-educated, Black women act (and react) in one of the main characters, Sylvia. And Fire is the epitome of what every woman like that wishes they could have to fall back on when they're tired of TRYING to carry the world on our shoulders. But his greatest feat was capturing the way women like Sylvia are sometimes conflicted by what's good for them and what "works" for them and sabotage the real thing we call love. A good read, you'll devour this novel in no time.

Summary: Dream a little Dream, Fire is real
Review: I thought this book was awesome, to say the least. Colin really pulled you into the novel with his various character roles. You didn't have to try hard get involved, it was harder to separate. I haven't read a book this fascinating in years. The places are so real (being born in Jamaica, visited NY and now living in Canada), that I was able relate with no problem as to what was going on during certain scenes. Brothers, there is nothing in wrong in being what you can be. Forget about the stereotypes and Let Love!!!

Summary: Maximum Reality
Review: This book was amazingly and intimately written. Never have I ever read a book that I felt a part of. It was so real that I didn't have to put myself in character to enjoy and feel the complete essence of it. Colin is on his way to great things. Being in Ontario, Canada, I can really appreciate him mentioning us lonely folks up here. Also because I was born in Jamaica, I can assure readers that paradise does exists here on earth.
