Summary: GOOD FOR A FIRST BOOK
Review: THE BOOK WAS GOOD FOR HIS FIRST. HE'S ON HIS WAY TO BECOMING AS DEVELOPED AS E. LYNN HARRIS. THE CHARACTERS WERE WELL DETAILED AND THE STRUGGLES THAT THEY ENCOUNTED WERE VERY REALISTIC. DEALING WITH CHILDHOOD MEMORIES AND OVERCOMING THE CHANGES IN THEIR LIVES WERE EXPRESSED IN GREAT DETAIL WHICH MADE THE STORY MORE INTERESTING.

Summary: The mango did it
Review: Bob Marley first introduced the title "Waiting in vain" in his attempt to show the romantic side of reggae music. Since its release, music fans worldwide all agree that it has warranted the regal status of "Classic". This ability to produce the classics has earned him a place in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. Colin Channer has now written his first novel titled "Waiting in Vain" and in my opinion is heading in the same direction as Bob Marley by producing a "Classic" After reading the first two pages I found it very difficult to put down. I was impressed by Channer's uncanny ability to metaphorically describe the numerous ways a man and woman can be together. Reminiscent of Shakespeare's (not Robbie)Romeo and Juliet, he has captured the fire that ignites between two lovers whose desire to be together is stronger than anything the average person can imagin. This book is a must read and for the serious collector a must have.

Summary: A very sensual experience
Review: Don't wait to read 'Waiting in Vain." It is so far the best novel I've read within the past year. Every word was so well written it was if I was there in the story.

Summary: Excellent, timely love story from a man with heart!!
Review: As a professional African American female of West Indian parents I really enjoyed the book. First of all it is great to see a man of West Indian descent write a love story that is sensual and so natural. Reading Waiting in Vain brought back many memorizes of growing up in New York in a West Indian household. I hope everyone appreciates the richest of Carribbean culture and that more people of West Indian descent start writing like Colin. I loved it and I recommend it to everyone both males and females. I would say that males have responded just as well to it as females. I really loved the quote about Black women and their "batties!" Keep up the good work Colin and remember that I'll never look at shrimp the same way again!

Summary: The book was interesting...ended disappointingly
Review: I really did enjoy reading the book. It was an insight into the art world I have not really been exposed to. I was just upset with the corny way the book ended. Up until the end, I liked it, but I guess there are only a few ways to end love stories...The book was very sexual, sometimes unbelievably so. Namely, the part when sylvia gets off on the phone in her office, and she is making all that commotion-come on!! I did not like how they only hooked up once, and then at the end of the story they just get back together, after it seems a year from their one night stand, I just could not feel that. I was impressed with the depth the author showed in the fraternal relationships. He showed a true understanding of friendships. I liked the way he showed the fragility and vulnerability of relations with friends. To me, that was what the book was really about-friendships, and for that, it was worth reading.

Summary: Suspenseful, Erotic, Realistic...I couldn't put it down.
Review: This story restores your faith in the notion that people do look within themselves, are honest and accepting of who they really are and share that honestly and openly with others. Several parts had me laughing out loud and others made my heart ache. I love a book that stirs my emotions and this one touched on all of them. If you're looking for clever and poetic metaphors, this book is filled with them. It's also filled with intense, erotic intimate situations. Watch out when and where you read...you may have to step out for a breath of fresh air!!

Loved it and will recommend to all my friends.

Summary: Wher Does One FIND a Man Like Fire?
Review: The book club ladies and I want to know! This jamaican blood's got IT! I can just imagine the author, Colin Channer does too in abundance. May I say that the ladies and I, 'ate it up'? Sincerely.

Summary: A life lover's book. Friendship and love.
Review: Waiting in Vain brings to mind friendships old and new and depending on your frame of reference there is something in the friendships and relationships depicted that mirrors our own individual experiences in some way. We all meet people and fall in love, we all have that co-dependent relationship with misplaced feelings of loyalty. Life is a journey and a search for acceptance, peace and love. Waiting in vain is a people lovers book. (Those of us hooked on relationships - platonic, intimate and otherwise) It is a solid piece of work by an author who shows much promise. A great addition to the world of "black written" work.

Summary: A really beautiful and inspiring read.
Review: I found this book a joy to read. It is a wonderful debut novel from a writer who has really mastered the craft of novel-writing. Channer has to be a name to watch for this book stands above nearly all of the books I have read in the past ten years, black or white. It is so beautifully put together that I was completely involved in the characters live's, the countries they visited, their relationships with each other. He manages to create very round characters that are totally convincing. I really wanted to follow their individual journeys. I really wanted everything to turn out all right for them, I really wanted Fire and Sylvia to get together. Channer is so skilful in the way he weaves together the personal and the political, the individual and the community, the intellectual and the downright sassy. It's a very erotic novel but it is more than that. It is about a group of young people and their relationships, but it is more than that. It is a book which should appeal to a wide range of people irrespective of race and gender because it brilliantly tackles some of the most important issues of our time. Channer has burst onto the scene with this book and I eagerly await his next novel. His is a fresh, orginal, passionate and technically brilliant voice and such writers only appear once in a while. A fantastic read! Igive it 10 stars.
