Summary: Channer is an outstanding author, poet and artist.
Review: Channer has such a good way with words. Fire is an interesting character. Makes me wonder whether he and Channer are the same person. Hmmm. I hope he's working on another because his type of work is well worth reading and maintaining. Very anxious to attend one of his book signings.

Summary: I loved this book, read it twice!!
Review: Finally a book about a man, that can be strong in his own beliefs, yet sensitive to others around him. No male bashing here. Nicely written,it will take you to a culture that can be a whole new world for some. Fire had moral integrity and great passion. A must read!!

Summary: Good cyaah dun! (Excellent!)
Review: The title of the book caught my eye and I knew right away it was a Jamaican author. I loved Waiting in Vain because it was realistic. I liked how Channer delved into the thoughts of the characters, showing among other things, their insecurities; I could certainly relate. The portrayal of Jamaica? He said it like it is. I must say, I have thought about Shabba, but never in that way - I'm still laughing! Waiting in Vain was 'un-put-down-able' - sorry it had to end. Nicely done, Channer - Jah-Mek-Yah is proud of its son!

Summary: Impossibly to put down. Moving in every sense of the word!!
Review: Colin Channer is the new "bad bwoy in town". His poetic, sensual approach to "Waiting in Vain" is hard to resist. The intoxicating relationship between Fire and Sylvia (the two central characters), is wonderful! Few author's are able to capture such passion. A far cry from previous novels depicting their version of love (black or otherwise). For all Yardies (or anyone simply looking for a great read), this really hits home. It is completely refreshing! I for one am now a avid fan, and look forward in the near future for more works of excellence from Mr. Channer.

Summary: Rare and in color: intelligent relationships
Review: I was looking for a writer who could depict human complexities and their evolutionary relationships. I wanted probing questions that made me revisit the unanswered, the untouched and the need to be unbarred. I needed more than he said, she said. Colin delivered in full color and real emotion. Thank you.

Summary: Wish I had more space to express myself - LOVED IT!!!!
Review: Shows Mr. Channer's knowledge of the island of Jamaica, women, relationships, friendship and what life is all about. Seems like he was born to write. I could not put it down until it was finished and it was not overdone nor unrealistic. The characters were so real that I was able to identify with them and see similarities with some of my peers. I am still looking for "Fire" in the streets - would LOVE to meet him. The way he interchanges English and Patois was very well done,in that "non-Jamaicans" could easily understand what he was saying. Strongly recommend it and hope to see more of his work.....soon.

Summary: Great, great, great, great book
Review: I loved this book. His one liners were awsome. My favorite line was "Was that your smile or the reflection of mine?" I can't imagine anybody not enjoying this novel. This is a definite must have, must read, must share. I couldn't stop talking aboout this book to others. I discovered it by accident, I glad I found it.

Summary: Nothing short of magnificent!
Review: Waiting in Vain is nothing short of magnificent. It is refreshing to have such a thoughtful and romantic brother of African heritage in Colin Channer to share the romance, pain, history, spirit, and complicated existence of the sons and daughters of Africa, where ever they may live. The stories that occur in Waiting in Vain go beyond the lives of Fire and Sylvia to the complicated worlds of exciting and colorful characters. Subtle lessons in geography, musicology, art, and sociology, are masterfully woven throughout the book. Channer's writing style in Waiting in Vain is fresh and exciting, as well as comfortable and familiar. This is a must read for the die-hard romantic who appreciates a touch of exotic poetry.

Summary: A MASTER PEICE OF LOVE & CONFLICTS
Review: WAITING IN VAIN IS A GREAT COMMENTARY ON LOVE BETWEEN FREINDS . THE BOOK THROUGH FIRE & SYLVIA PRESENT THE MOST PROFONE ESSENCE OF WHAT IT REALLY MEANS TO LOVE. THIS NOVEL MAKES WAY FOR ITS READERS TO TAKE THE LEAP OF PASSION & INTRIGUE ACROSS THE GLOBE WITH A.J. HEAT FROM ENGLAND JUST FOR A FLING IN THE UNITED STATES. THIS BOOK IS THE MONET OF ROMANCE NOVELS . THE WRITER EFFORTLESSLY DELIVERED THE HOW DEEPLY HUMAN BEINGS CAN LOVE , CARE AND GET EVEN. IT IS THE BLUE PRINT FOR A EXECELLENT FILM FOR THE NEAR FUTURE. AT THE COMPLETION OF WEB OF ROMANCE THIS BOOK KEEPS PLAYING IN MY HEAD LIKE THE SONG OF A TRUE REGGAE WRITER. I DO BELEIVE THAT THERE IS IN THE AIR WAITING IN VAIN VOLUME 2, JUST WAITING TO BE TAPPED INTO.

Summary: Exciting, passionate and well written.
Review: A friend had the book and she was finding it somewhat difficult to read, so she gave to me since I am an avid reader. I found the book to be a good read, but not always an easy read because it made me think about the relationships in my life. I have read a ton of romance novels and few have dealt with the psychological impact of love. Fire and Sylvia were excellent characters and I wondered if Sylvia would remain tied to her materialistic world. I loved reading about the relationships in this book, they were all tied together in some fashion and we got a chance to see how each relationship changed another. Fire is like no other man I have ever encountered in a romance book, he is a black man who is comfortable in his own skin. And even though he is wealthy and famous, he does not feel as if the money or fame makes him who he is. Colin, I must give you kudos for such great writing. I am waiting for you next book. Take your time and make it good!!
