Rating: Summary: Stayed up late to finish. Read it again the next day.. Review: Most of the time I felt as if I were reading one long poem. This author loves words and loves poetry. I read Fire's poems over and over. Can't get enough of them.
Rating: Summary: "Exciting. Invigorating. Wonderful." Review: This book makes you realize that love at first sight really does exist.
Rating: Summary: A beautiful and inspiring book. Review: This book brought back the hope that all is not lost for that woman who wants a man who is a little ruff around the edges, does not mind getting his shoes dirty, but is still well educated and knows what he wants from life. Mr. Channer writes about the black man that most black women dreams are made of.
Rating: Summary: lush Review: Deeply sensual, wildly seductive, characters that jump off the page, scenery so lush you want to walk into it....
Rating: Summary: Erotic, sensual, and thought provoking. Review: When is the next book? Colin Channer has certainly found a way make this book intrinsic; it naturally touches the mind, body and soul. I'm glad the brother is not bashing women, relationships or blackness. Instead, he shares an elegant story of love: love between man and woman, man and man, and love of self.
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ. THIS BOOK WILL FEED YOUR SOUL Review: WAITING IN VAIN captures the essence of romance. Colin takes the reader on a journey filled with hope and fulfillment of ones own passion. Fire is a sensual, compassionate and talented black man, spiritually rooted to his own self worth who loves deeply from his soul. I could not get enough of the relationship between Fire and Sylvia and am waiting in vain for a continuation of their lives together. Congratulations Mr. Channer, your first book is truly a success story of great magnitude. I hope you continue to write with such great clarity of the human nature to love unconditionally.
Rating: Summary: I thought the book was great. Big up tuh all yardies...Seen! Review: I thought the book was awesome. I had a vision of it as I read each chapter. If Fire was here, Lord only knows what I'll do for him. I am "waiting in vain" as well. I just can't wait until the next book come out. I wish there had been a part two to this novel.
Rating: Summary: This book was as delicious as a piece of rich chocolate! Review: Wow! I loved this book. I saw it in a bookstore I frequent, and since I had just come back from vacationing in Jamaica, the story caught my eye. I really appreciated how Colin was able to include all the elements that make love in the nineties between 30 something Black professionals so complicated. There are no cardboard characters here, or easily pegged good or bad guys. The two main characters have their sympathetic and annoying traits. I live in West Africa, and am always looking for books with an international flair. Also let's also not forget the senuality that was so well captured. Great work Colin. Can't wait to read the next one!
Rating: Summary: Channer's language is at once lush and livid. Review: I picked Waiting in Vain at the local Wal-Mart while waiting for my roommate to thumb through the latest issue of Cosmo. From the cover I judged it to be just another Arabesque-like romance. Surprise!! It was not!! In fact, it has been a while since I read a book with such voluptuous language, so full and ripe that it nearly dribbled down the page, like one of Fire's mango's.Channer's language is at once lush and livid. His characters explode off the page only to score themselves indelibly on the brain. And why? Because we've all loved like Fire, we've all been as lost as Sylvia, and we've all needed as much understanding as Ian. I've never been to Jamaica, but as I read I feel her rhythms, I smell the fresh earth, and my palate is filled with rich spices that I have never tasted. Being of partial Jamaican descent, Waiting In Vain makes me long for the home I've never known. Thank you Colin Channer for such a beautiful depiction of life.
Rating: Summary: Interesting, yet exciting! Review: I thoroughly enjoyed reading "Waiting in Vain". The book was slow at the begining, but as the story unfolds it became more intriguing, exciting.....Can't wait to read his next book!
