Rating: Summary: For The Romantic Review: If you are a die hard romantic, then you will love this book. The characters were so life like and real that it was hard to remember that this was just a book I was reading and not about someone's life. This is one of those books that you can't put down, but don't want to come to an end. I can't wait to see what Mr. Channer has to offer in his next book.
Rating: Summary: Waiting in Vain by Colin Channer Review: Excellent book, can't wait for his next one
Rating: Summary: The Perfect Love Story Review: Reading "Waiting In Vain" was the perfect prescription for a long distance love.
Rating: Summary: Waiting in Vain Review: There is a mystical, romantic essence to this story that makes it beautiful. It is real and fantasy, feminine and masculine, urban and far away all at the same time. Channers words are like poetry subsequently sometimes drawn out and hard to follow but always pretty at the end. A story of love and self-discovery, this book can capture not only your interest but your soul if you let it.
Rating: Summary: waiting in vein Review: "waiting in vein", grabed my attention. I decided to read the book on the way to new york. the book was great company on my long flight. "Waiting in Vein" is full of culture, poetic and romantic writing style. The story jumps out and makes you feel that you can very well live this fantasy, even if it is for awhile.
Rating: Summary: Sensual, realistic, great imagery, great! Review: I can't believe I have had this book since August and just read this past week! The majority of the reviews I see agree with my opinion that this was a great book. As for those few who disagree, well you can't please everyone. Mr. Channer has captured the culture of the thirty-somethings of educated, middle-class people of African descent who live in the States, Jamaica and London. The characters were multi-dimensional and realistic. Fire was a some kind of man and while I didn't always like Sylvia, I was sympathetic to her character. This book got to the root of how our past and environment of our child affects what we carry over into our adulthood. As to what makes this book different from the so called "pop fizz" fiction and run-of-the-mill relationships stories is the depth to which the characters are drawn and therefore entices the reader to think intelligently about issues such as class structures among Blacks, moral dilemnas, and friendships. It even makes us think about the why of relationships. Not to mention the sensual poetry. The letter Fire wrote to Sylvia from Jamaica was my favorite. I applaud Mr. Channer on this book and look forward to more of his writing.
Rating: Summary: True meaning of love, friendship, family, and yes, pain! Review: Waiting for my flight at Hartsfield International Airport in Atlanta, I stopped by a bookstore and grabbed "Waiting in Vain". I started reading it right away. I didn't even realied when my flight took off from Atlanta or landed in St. Louis. This was on a Sunday. I finished reading the book the next day after work! There's a Fire in me expect that I'll love to have more of his humbleness. I like the fact that Colin portrayed two professional blacks in love. This book reminds us of the true meaning of love, family, friendship, and yes, pain. It reminds us to be real...and humble. And yes, I loved the reggae musical thread. Looking forward to reading your next books!
