Rating: Summary: Dream a little Dream, Fire is real Review: I thought this book was awesome, to say the least. Colin really pulled you into the novel with his various character roles. You didn't have to try hard get involved, it was harder to separate. I haven't read a book this fascinating in years. The places are so real (being born in Jamaica, visited NY and now living in Canada), that I was able relate with no problem as to what was going on during certain scenes. Brothers, there is nothing in wrong in being what you can be. Forget about the stereotypes and Let Love!!!
Rating: Summary: Beautiful Story !! Review: This book was amazing to me. I never read such a story that is so real as this. Colin weaves words with magic. He takes you in, takes you deep into the heart of his characters. The whole feel of this story was wonderful. What woman wouldn't fall in love with Fire! He was the perfect man, humble, spirited and so tastefully erotic.I too am Waiting In Vain for Colin's next novel.. What a beauty you have crafted Colin. And Satisfy My Soul did exactly that, satisfy my soul..The literary world needed this kind of spirit.
Rating: Summary: A Vivid Visit to the Non-tourist Caribbean Review: I bought this book because I had read newspaper reviews of it and because I'm Jamaican so, naturally, I am excited by Jamaican authors.Well, it was everything I wanted in fiction and then some... The author manages to take you vividly to Bohemian New York and tropical living at its best. A realistic look at the love journey and a very real rendition of life in Jamaica and the Jamaican hang ups without any form of underlying cynicism. A great read!
Rating: Summary: Elegant writing style! Review: How elegantly put. This is a page turner. This author really has a way with words. Great job! Another page turner is In-Law Drama. Happy reading!
Rating: Summary: I didn't like this one Review: I'm an avid reader. And this book, I really didn't enjoy. I actually didn't finish it. I just couldn't get into it. I bought it cause I read the reviews that were in here, and I totally disagree with everyone that gave it five stars.
Rating: Summary: Unbelievable!! Review: First of all, I can't tell you how much this book has changed my past, and present experiences. The twist, suspense, and erotic theme of the book is brilliant. I had to put the book down at times, and spend time with my mate, because this book was so real. I hate to say it, but I felt like a character in each scene. When it came to Fire, and Slyvia, I took turns of who I would be at that time, and it was exciting. I could not put this book down to save my life, the cover is what caught my eye, the reflection in her glasses, just blew my mind. The island setting was terrific, I am from Trini, and loved the description of places, and characters that Fire would come across while in Jamaica. Do not hesitate on this one, you will regret it.
Rating: Summary: Channer's Men Review: After reading and loving Channer's new book, Satisfy My Soul, I said, "He did it again. He created another brother that women just love to love. How does he do that?" So I went back and re-read this one. The first time I read it (back about two years) I was impressed by Channer's striking characters, his lushly painted locales of New York, Jamaica, and England, and of course his knowledge of the magazine world. I had also found his sense of "things romantic" to be breathtaking. Who wouldn't fall in love with a man like Fire? The second time around I discovered the book worked on the same spritual level as that attained by Satisfy My Soul. Fire is more than a good looking brother looking for love; he is looking for goodness, or integrity, in both love and life. In short, the secret to why we love Channer's men is that they are as good inside as they are good looking outside. They are men who stand by their friends. They are men that women can count on in the thick and the thin. And when it comes to loving--they are quite unselfish and very, very creative. . . Maybe that's a lesson to the rest of us brothers.
Rating: Summary: Better than a must read, a must experience Review: I bought Waiting in Vain for a summer read in 2000. The title along captivated me and a friend girl of mine because we were both questioning the time put in current relationships. I read a few pages and put it down until January 2002. Big Mistake! I was mad at myself because I could have had this experience earlier. The world of Fire and Sylvia mimicked that of my own. A single, educated sister in a relationship for the sake of being in one. Like Sylvia, I was not happy. Her prince charming came and I'm now free to accept mine. Thanks, Colin, for the motivation to leave a dead relationship. The explicit details in the book drew me into the Jamaican culture. The titilizing language helped me to believe in passion again. This may be Colin's debut novel, but it was seasoned just right to put him outfront among other literary giants.
Rating: Summary: A gift from a sis Review: Being given this book as a gift over a year ago i was not sure if i would like it. Well i liked the cover and all but i really feared being misguided by that. I was surprised how hard i found it to put this book down after i had started. Being a Jamaican i was always interested in books that depicted some form of Jamaican culture. This book gave a little of different worlds, it showed some aspect of life in the UK, New York and of course Jamaica. A lot of interesting issues were covered in this piece of work. It dealt with homosexuality, cheating, suicide, among others. Very interesting literature i must add. One of my favourite things about his book was that it ws unpredictable. It was hard for me to tell what is going to happen next and i absolutely love that. My only regret was that i didn't start reading it sooner. Well if you haven't read it yet, you are missing out on a masterpiece. Excellent Work Channer
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully Erotic Review: I loved this novel. It was one of the most erotic pieces I've read in a long time. I found it amazing how the author could take the everyday act of dialing a phone, and make it erotic.... I don't think I'll ever see a rotary dial phone in the same light ever again (laugh). I know this is a book I will read over and over! I very much liked how Fire encouraged Sylvia to evaluate her values in life... status, money and what real love is.It just goes to show that so many of as humans all struggle with similar problems and insecurities. I could definitely identify with Sylvia's struggles, many times I felt like someone had peeked into my private affairs !!! I will go out and buy "Satisfy My Soul" and "Got To Be Real" because of this book. I hope that Colin Channer will always have the romantic elements in future novels, because he is superb in his way of expressing erotic themes. Readers prepare yourselves for one of the best reads ever! Oh yeah, make sure you're home when you get to the telephone call scene in the book (laugh)!!
