Summary: True Love Story
Review: This is one of the most true to life love stories I have read in a long time. The characters are believable and you find yourself rooting for some and disliking others. I read it on my way to work and nearly missed my stop on several occasions. It is engrossing and well written and I can't wait for his next book.

Summary: Culturally Captivating
Review: ...a sensual and thoughtful articulation of the Jamaican spirit that never leaves its children no matter how far they stray from the island or how hard their hearts are broken..."Waiting in Vain" is a lyric not a narrative..a rock-steady song syncopated with sensuality, anger, friendship, betrayal, hope, tragedy and flashes of joy...all things Jamaican and tirelessly human

Summary: Waiting in Vain
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed "Waiting in Vain" to the point that I read it twice, which is something I have never done. The main male character Fire was so sensual, sensitive, erotic, giving, centered, and intellectual that I wanted to will him into existence. I wanted to be in the company of someone so flirtatious and passionate. A man smart enough to know that you much touch a woman's soul and make love to her mentally in order to gain the great rewards of having her surrender herself to you physically and totally. Fire knows that the biggest sex organ is the brain and by stimulating that you can reach ectasy unimaginable. The electricity between Fire and Sylvia sizzles. The dialog between the characters was so great that I will borrow them for personal flirtations. I definitely learned a few things. This is not fluff; it's a well written novel with characters of depth and their romantic entanglements.

Summary: A Vivid Jamaican/American Romance
Review: When reading the book, you will actually be able to feel and see all the characters of this exciting book. From the sexy Fire, to the stylish Sylia. For the first time, i could really relate to the dialect of the Jamaican people. You will see how Sylvia will learn to realize what she wants out of life and a man. And you will see how a man (Fire) will express himself in love. This book is well written, fasted paced, funny, and sad all at the same time. Who ever reads the book will truely enjoy it.

Summary: Wait in vain no more!
Review: Being Jamaican, born and reared, living in America, I found that Colin Channer's book, Waiting in Vain, bridged the cultures very well. The storyline is cohesive and the author's voice credible and endearing. The main character, Fire, is a rare, evolved, and complex man, who communicates the hard work he had to do to be who he has become. It is evident that the evolution is neither easy or complete, but on a steady tract. He sorts out the dynamics of his relationships with the other characters with humanity and maturity. I found the female characters believable and familiar. The ending required a bit of concentration, but that is what good reading is made of, as is good writing.

This book is an impressive entreƩ for Mr. Channer. I look forward to future offerings.

Summary: A True Jamerican Experience
Review: From the streets of Brooklyn to the Jamaican country side, Colin Channer paints a very descriptive picture of relationships. He seems to write from personal experience, and it was a pleasure reading this book. It was truly hard to put down. Colin writes as a Jamaican, but anyone can relate to the ups and downs of relationships. I look forward to his next novel.

Summary: Waiting In Vain has raised the standard.
Review: It is hard to believe that this is Colin's first novel. I am also in the process of writing my first novel. Colin has raised the bar for me. His utilization of language and details are expressive and expansive. This is truly a book of hope. I saw a lot of myself in both Sylvia and Fire (the main characters). Colin has demonstrated an intense perception of passion, love and hate. I usually pride myself for reading fast, but I purposely took my time with each page to enjoy the flavor of this story. A book I would buy for a good friend; male and female.
