Rating: Summary: Simply Awesome!!!! Review: Wow, if this is the first novel I can't wait to read the next one. For anyone who has loved, lost, and regained love this is the book you need to read. I was glued to every paragraph, every word, every character starting in Jamaica on to Bklyn Ny, to London, back to Jamaica. Big up to Colin Channer this brotha will be a literary force to reckon with.
Rating: Summary: Excellent, Spectacular First Novel Review: Excellent writing, vivid descriptions with continuing suspense that held you from page to page......"Waiting in Vain" held and caressed my mind, body and soul while taking me on a beautiful journey of home(Jamaica). This book was able to tackle both social and relationship issues in a very entertaining way. Nothing beats a great book than the suspense ending that was created in the scene with "Fire" going out to sea.......Waiting in Vain has all the components for a best-seller, and hopefully we can look forward to the movie and the second book soon. Congrats Colin!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: A good read Review: I found this book to be a very good first novel. It was a boy meets girl story but with more depth to the characters than usual. I loved the way Colin Channer let us know Fire and Sylvia as warm sensitive people. I found a lot in the story to relate to. The area is very familiar to me and the people are familiar to me. I'm looking forward to the next book from Colin Channer.
Rating: Summary: Can You Feel the Heat? Review: I thoroughly enjoyed the story painted by Colin Channer. I've never been to Jamaica, but through reading this book I feel like I have been. The characters were very well-developed making for a very well told story!
Rating: Summary: Here's another "GREAT BOOK" reader's comment! Review: I couldn't put it down. Had me scared at the end when I wasn't sure if Fire and Sylvia would make find their way together, but of course they did. I've read other books and imagined myself in a few. But yours especially left me, hopefully not "waiting in vain" for my Fire. The kind of energy and passion between them is the kind I have always believed I could and should share with another. So I will continue to "wait" for my Divine Mate to help me "learn myself" and take me to that place of "white light." Kudos Kudos Kudos
Rating: Summary: Great novel! Review: Compelling! Real! Open! Sexual! These are just a few of the words that come readily to mind about Colin Channer's 'Waiting In Vain'. How often does an author come along who can so openly and convincingly describe the sensitive side of a man? Being a woman, it was like a breath of fresh air to see this 'softer' side revealed in print. Being Jamaican, I found the references so real, they felt almost tangible. Thank you Colin Channer for creating - in your gifted way - such a wonderful blend of prose, poetry and music to make this one of my most memorable novels yet.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful work Review: I recently got through taking 2 courses in American Lit, and I must say that this work is right up there with the very best writers. A very complimnetary thing that Mr. Channer has done is to expose us to a positive Jamaican male, Fire. He is warm, gentle, sensual, but still a man in every way. Being a Jamaican woman we rearly see that type of man, yet deep down yurn for one. With so much negitaves coming out of Jamiaca, this book has shed a great deal on light on many issues that have really inspired me. So thank you Colin for a great novel. I will save it for my children to read, so they can understand and appreciate their culture. I really enjoyed this book. I is truely a work of art.
Rating: Summary: Great Love Story Review: Simply put, this is truly a very passionate love story, it will touch every reader differently. I purchased and read the book over a year and while archiving old books I pulled it out and decided to read it again. The book is filled with colorful and culturally diverse characters that are in various stages of life's most complex emotion "loving". The main characters Fire and Sylvia are captivating and their obvious chemistry is steaming off the pages from their first encounter. Colin Channer does a brillant job. This is a must have, so buy the book because you will want to read it again and again.
Rating: Summary: WAITING IN VAIN....(something i would never want...) Review: This is a book that i truly felt connected with. Whilst reading it, i felt moved with the characters and experienced their traumas, happiness..triumphs and even the obstacles presented with the characters. It's not just "another love story". It's about knowing when and how to make a choice and a correct one, about failures, struggles and mistakes that have to be overcome if you want to go on. It's about other countries being explored and cultures brought forth with more than words and about other references to great many-a-books and music and poetry that captured my attention. I'm saying that the book is not just about love. If anything i would reccomend that everybody read this book whether you read adventure or comics or..get a hold of this!..and trust me...even though there is a happy ending...some characters make you die with them and cry in pain. Well done Channer and i look forward to your next books. Best wishes. Butterfly:)
Rating: Summary: Magnifi'c! Review: Aside from the obvious brilliance and vibrance of the author's style, this book goes beyond the typical love story. The reader is compelled to grow through vicarious experience as the embodiment of each character. Channer is indeed the bomb! This book is more profound than meets the eye. The majestic and whimsical aura suggests an undefinable strength in culture while simultaneously reminding us of the importance of character. This book is overflowing with twists of love, beauty, culture, morality, character, politics, passion, enchantment and social phenomena (almost social realism)! Get it! Read it! Live it! Love it!
