Rating: Summary: Should be a movie Review: I really enjoyed this story. It was like eating good gumbo, something new in every spoonful. The characters are interesting and for the most part likeable. It's a very 'human' story, full of sensual descriptions of touch, smell, and taste. This should be the next 'You've Got Mail'.
Rating: Summary: WAITING IN VAIN Review: Soulful romance is how I would describe Waiting in Vain. This is a book that I am afraid of finishing. The main characters Fire has a rich spiritual respect for the women in his life. He is not afraid to sway with the moment, and Sylvia has a wanting in her that comes from knowing Fire that inspires my soul and heart to dream on. The next time that I am instantly touched by a chance meeting I'll not it shrug it off, all because of having fire in my life. Waiting In Vain is a beautiful read takes us to a place that we have forgotten or have learned not to share with others. From the very beginning it reaches down and touches something so personal that you want to say, {that's me}, and it will always be. Thanks to Colin for the uplift. When is the next novel, boy you are good!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Honoring Parts of Us that need not~~ be lost Review: I rate Waiting in Vain along with My best, favorite novel wildseed by Octavia butler. Both I loved and couldn't wait to get back to and read. I at times wanted to shake the main cnaracter for not being wiser. In Waiting in vain, I enjoyed being in the company of men and hearing their spin on life. Reading of sylvia's sexually abuse made me need to reach out and call someone. The reality of examining values and belief systems when we choose to fall in love is a painful pill to swallow. And yes the passion, suspense and sex or loving making depending on the character also kept my attention too. All I can say now is MORE PLS. and thank you, Mr. Channer for putting it out there for Us. Peace~~ ...
Rating: Summary: Please Keep Writing Review: Waiting in Vain was my best read this decade. Well written, lyrical, fully developed characters, well plotted, satisfying ending. I can't wait for the movie. In fact, I'm working out the casting in my head as I write this. Let's see now, for Fire we have Tyson... Congratulations, Mr. Channer. Please keep writing!

I've been to the Caribbean, to London, and to Brooklyn, and Colin Channer makes those places come alive all over again. The book was great, and I've recommended it to everyone I know- as I eagerly awaiting his next book.

Rating: Summary: Lushly Lyrical!!! Review: It is said that the true writer writes. And Colin Channer has done so in a most marvelous and spectacular way. Waiting in Vain shows the true essence of a writer who not only respects, but loves his craft. As a fellow writer, I've had the pleasure of sharing a platform with Colin, and after listening to him share his story of how his novel came to be, I rushed out and bought it. I so loved Waiting in Vain. I thought it was portrayed brilliance, shades of genius, and a rich, romantic lushness that is lacking in many of our novels today. If the highest form of flattery is truly imitation, then I flatter Colin very much when I say that I long to write as passionately as does he.Colin, thank you for such a wonderful work. It is with anticipation that I eagerly await your next novel. Robyn Williams, Author of A Twist of Fate and Preconceived Notions.
Rating: Summary: "A Must Read" Review: Once you start reading this book, you will not want to stop. One is able to visualize the entire story from start to finish. A portion of this story takes you to Jamaica, one gets to see a bite of the politics and lifestyle of the people, funny but true. You will get a good laugh from this book. All you yardie, support di bredda!!!
Rating: Summary: Extra-ordinary Review: Waiting in Vain is so fullfilling (for the reader) and so accomplished (by the author). Three different cultures (Jamaica, London, New York), two very different people (Fire and Sylvia) and universal issues (love, sex, betrayal, pain, inner strength or lack thereof). Colin Channer writes like the poet he is and through his writing style and the scenarios he depicts, he inspires the reader to keep searching for the little and bigger wonders in life...music, poetry, food, friendship, the beauty of silence, the profound love and connection two people can feel for one another. There are no formulas here, no types. This novel is about the beauty and strengh of a man (Fire) and his quest to solve many of the mysteries / issues we all struggle with all our lives. I keep recommending this book to those I know who haven't read it or heard of it. As for me, I keep looking for Colin Channer's new work.
Rating: Summary: A piece of art! Review: Colin validated for me that life is not a struggle......it is a wiggle! That it is a risk to love. What if it doesn't work out? Ah, but what if it does?
