Rating: Summary: So disappointed!!! Review: Don't waste your money on this book. I'm an avid book reader and I couldn't get past page 160 and that was a tremendous struggle just to get there. What possessed you to write this book, Roz? Next to Toni Morrison books, it was the most incomprehensible read I've ever read. Well, at least you can say as terrible as this book is that "you got paid" anyway. I'd like to recommend to your readers a book called "Waiting to Exit Hell." No, it's not written by Terri, but it's as good as Terri Mc.
Rating: Summary: Is There a Sequel in The Works? Review: I agree with some if not all of the previous reviews on this novel. I thought Flip Side was a good book overall. I particularly like the religion in the book. It reminded me of Casting the First Stone (by another author). VERY GOOD. Ms. McMillan is a VERY good writer (like her sister). I have enjoyed all of your previous works, especially One Better. (I cried like Sterling was MY child)and not Carmen's or Spice's as the case may be. Back to the book at hand, Issac was a very likeable character. I felt for him. He was a very positive brother who made a really bad mistake. However, Loren Lake disappeared, Kennedy's murder was unsolved. The good Rev. had issues that weren't cleared up and Paps and the whole storyline was a bit far-fetched with him being Issaic's dad. I hope you address some of these issues in a sequel or be sure and heed the advise in these reviews and tie up the loose ends of your next novel. I remain now and always an avid fan and I can't wait for the next book. Blessings to you & yours.
Rating: Summary: Thought-provoking, moving, complex and touching Review: I read The Flip Side of Sin back in August right after it's release. I enjoy her books because, they take me back home to Detroit. I can picture everything and feel like a part of the story. Rosalyn has that magic in her pen when it comes to writing about home and what it has to offer. Issac's character was battling some serious demons and trying to put his family back together. I cheered for him from the start. It's not easy for a man to deal with all that he did. I knew he was a fighter and deserved a chance to make things right. I'm glad he found himself. Set himself free and was able to mend broken fences. I cried as he ached for a relationship with his only child, Peyton and his wanting to reunite with Kennendy. It was touching when he and Miracall Lake came to be friends and lovers after their shared tragic past. Kennedy left a bad taste in my mouth for the most part. She gave Isaac such a hard time and acted as though he wasn't trying to changing his old ways. Boy, did she found this out too late. I will say, I admired her strength and determination to better the lives of both she and their son-Peyton. She'd had to do what so many mothers and wives have to do when there's not a responsible man around. My only problem was that she lead Issac on and it greatly affected their relationship as well as others throughout the book. Rosemary, Jesse, Paps and a few others add more flavor and drama to the storyline. Hats off Rosalyn once again!!
Rating: Summary: basically political quotes and bible scriptures Review: i thought that the story was plagued with too much long and boring political dialogue. i found myself skimming through the pages to avoid this part. hopefully nothing "sizzling" was missed during my skimming

Rating: Summary: a passionate heartfelt book Review: I truly enjoyed this book and will recommend it very highly. I read the reviews before reading the books and I was very disappointed because some of the comments that was made were not true in my opinion. Being a christian and a pastor's wife, I guess I could relate to some of the thing that Rosemary and Jesse had to face. I could actually feel the passionate that Rosemary experience with her love for God, Jesse and Issac. I was very impressed with Ms. McMillian display of the scriptures that went well with each chapter. Thank you once again for a well written book that I truly enjoyed. I pick it up and did not put it down until three days later. I cried and I rejoice. A very good book.
Rating: Summary: Sorry, didn't like this one Review: Issac just out of prison after serving time for killing a little girl while driving drunk. I felt the book would have been better if we could have learned more about Issac before he went to prison. I would have rather read more about Mercella, like how did her family feel about her dating the guy who killed her niece. The only thing i really liked about this book is Issac and his son's becoming a father and son again.
Rating: Summary: Turn It Back Over Review: Ms. McMillian's writing has her good points, and I'm sure she has more than tired of being compared to her sister, but she sure can't write like her. I've read all her books in the hope that each one would improve as she grew as a writer. They haven't yet. This book was incredibly convoluted. The characters weren't developed enough that I could remember who they were from the first time they were mentioned to the next. I often found myself, stopping in the middle of reading and trying to remember who they were. Even Miracall, who later emerged as a major character, was somewhat a mystery. I just couldn't figure everyone out. As an AME, I was also a bit offended at her lackadaisical take on the democratic and spiritual structure of the church. If she thinks even two or more deacons in one AME church is a common thing, she has been grossly misled or just didn't bother to do any research. Which is to say, she thinks her readers are all Baptist, or just stupid. Few people know much about the history and operation of the oldest black denomination in the country. This would have been a nice vehicle to educate them.
Rating: Summary: "Don't give up on Faith...Just Worldly People..." Review: Rosalyn McMillan truelly an artistic Author. Outstanding job with this novel. This one is a page turner. Isaac is just a man down on his luck with a wife and son, after a argument at home,he leaves and this night will change his life forever. After 12 years he is back in familiar surroundings, but quickly realizes how different things are, even though some things are still the same, just more complicated like love. Out of love the truth has been with held from Isaac, Peyton, Kennedy, Rosemary, Jesse and many others. It may not have been the right thing to do, but I was only protecting you, is the situation. As time is moving on, Isaac proves that he is a gifted saxophone player and not a vicious criminal. Rosemary is a woman with a strong faith, but even she shows us that Christians still can make bad decisions, but in order to stay in good grace, you have to have Forgiveness and Faith. Rosemary shows this with Paps and the church folks. They all learn that your friends can be your enemy and your enemy your friend. This story also shows the corruption in politics and in the police department. This book is written with very vivid and understandable situations and teaches us to strive, continue to dream, Forgiveness and family and friendship does not have a price tag on it. The soup kitchen scene is one of my favorites in this book and Peyton and Isaac on New Years Eve. Roslyn McMillan excellent job.
Rating: Summary: Can't Please Everyone Review: Roz! Girlfriend! I feel you. Although, however, this novel was somewhat too wordy and over-written. It also had too many different themes flying in very many directions. However, I did like the idea how you were trying to capture the reader's attention on societal issues. Perhaps that is the direction this book should have taken versus your main character's dilemma. The title is outstanding. I've gotten some positive feedback from my readers in my book, "Waiting to Exit Hell," because they were able to follow the writing style. I write as though I'm talking to you over the telephone or in person. However, I know that there are going to be some "haters" as well because that's Satan's job. We both were trying to deliver a message of "forgiveness." Keep writing and delivering these thought provoking and positive messages. Our folks need to know! Love Ya.
