Summary: Remains one of my favorites
Review: I love this book, one of my favorite Spencer novels!! She takes the concept of the "mail order bride" and crafts a beautiful, engaging love story around it. Karl and Anna are wonderful characters that readers will be able to relate to; Karl is strong, traditional, and of the quiet persuasion while Anna, typically, is his opposite, possessing an out-spoken, fiery personality. However, the central part of the story and the issues in their lives are often surprising and keep the story flowing, as do their reactions to it. "The Endearment" is a wonderful novel about how love can grow in unlikely places and that the heart can survive, build upon, and ultimately become stronger through many trials.

Summary: Good, clean, honest characters with real compassion,.
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was what real love should be. Not often these days can you sit down with a book and find good, clean storylines. The characters worked their way through life's problems and kept their integrity and found what life can really be.

Summary: The Endearment
Review: If you are only looking for a "lust and thrust" bodice ripper type book this is not the book for you. This is a sweet love story with realistic characters in believeable situations. I was fascinated by the details of pioneer life, and the subtle details of what it was like to make a home in the wilderness. I found the book hard to put down and I was sorry when it ended.

Review: If you loved reading this book then you'll enjoy it 10 times more on audio. The reader brings the characters to life. She does three accents. Swedish for Karl, an American accent for Anna and James, and a French accent for the priest at the mission. I've listened to it three times in a row. I wanted to marry Karl myself after listening to this book. I guess I'm just lucky that I too married a blonde haired blue eyed man from Minnesota. Only he speaks German and not Swedish. If you want to fall in love all over with this book then try it in on audio by Dove Books.

Summary: The best mail-order-bride story ever!
Review: In the time when propriety was all that mattered, 2 people decided to forsake that giving them courage and power to control their destiny. The fact that Karl believed in the goodness of everyone was very heartfelt. The way Anna treated Karl was dishonest but she did this because of her will to survive and her duty to her brother James. It's difficult to have nothing then all of a sudden everything that your heart has desired. It was a good way for someone to turn over a new leaf and prove to herself that she is capable of that change no matter what form of adversity she faced. Anna is very admirable in her character and she brought a lot of truth in the book. In this day and age of deception, it's not uncommon for people to do the same things for survival.
